Review: Complaint against Pierce Total ComfortMy home at [redacted], was up for sale in early 2014. A contract was placed to buy the home and the buyers had an inspection done in February 2014. As a result of the inspection, the buyers requested that the two fireplaces be turned on to be sure that they were in working order and that the damper on the fireplace located in the great room of my home be fixed so that it would completely close.My realtor, Adrian Jones, of Patterson-Schwartz, arranged for Pierce Total Comfort to come and light the two fireplaces and also to inspect the damper. [redacted] had no knowledge of the reliability of Pierce Total Comfort. However [redacted] was told over the phone that the cost of lighting the two fireplaces would be $89.00When the technician from Pierce Total Comfort arrived, he told me and [redacted] that he could not light the two fireplaces without inspecting them. He compared himself to a doctor in that he could not just address the one issue but rather had to have a complete picture. In addition, he told us that the damper on the great room fireplace could not be closed completely because it was a gas fireplace and having the damper completely closed would be an extreme hazard. If the buyers chose to convert the fireplace to a wood burning fireplace and take out the propane lines, then it would be appropriate to make sure that the damper would completely close. After those explanations, he proceeded to work for more than an hour on the great room fireplace trying to close the damper when he had already explained that it would be fire hazard to have the damper completely closed and we told him that it was not necessary to do that work. Once he finally got the hint that we did not need the damper completely closed [and he never got it completely closed], he packed up his tools and lit both fireplaces.Then he presented us with a bill that included a dispatch fee of $89, which we had never been told about, and fee of $398 for the work on the great room fireplace and the lighting of the two fireplaces. The total was $487 paid on March 6 2014.[redacted] and I were furious with these extraordinarily outrageous charges. [redacted] then called Pierce Total Comfort and complained because work was done that was not needed and [redacted] had been told that the price of coming to light the fireplaces was $89. [redacted] was told that of the fees paid would be refunded to me. This never happened. [redacted] phoned Pierce Total Comfort on at least 3 occasions over the ensuing 3 weeks to seek the refund, was told on 2 of those occasions that the check was in the mail, but still no refund ever appeared.I am seeking a refund of of the monies paid, even though the amount paid at a 50% reduction is still outrageous for the needless work that was attempted and for lighting the two fireplaces. However, I will be satisfied for a refund of 50% of the $487 paid. [redacted]Desired Settlement: As indicated in the above complaint, Pierce Total Comfort told my realtor that they would refund 50% of the amount paid and even told my realtor that the check was in the mail. No check ever arrived and no refund was ever paid. I would like them to follow thru on their promise to refund 50% of the amount paid, even though that amount is outrageous for the work that was done.
