DO NOT GO TO PIERSIDE BOATWORKS IN CHARLESTON, SC!
The owner, [redacted], tried to rip me off! He padded charges on us after we decided to do some work ourselves instead of having his guys do it.
In Oct of 2016 we had some trouble with our boat on the way down to Florida. We checked out the boatyards in the area. After comparison shopping and a recommendation we chose Pierside Boatworks. After getting a quote from him of nearly $4000, we decided to do the work ourselves.
After we did the work we got an invoice with extra charges for an emergency haul-out and a subcontractor fee. The Do-It-Yourself fee is legit, although high at $70 a day, but he charged us an additional $75/day Subcontractor Fee for working on our own boat! Further he charged us a $280 emergency fee for a haul-out that wasn't outside of business hours, didn't require any extra work and certainly wasn't explained, authorized nor signed for.
The people that worked there were really nice and I feel bad for them to have to work for this volatile man. I can not speak to the quality of the work performed, but I would avoid this boatyard if I were you. Life is too short to deal with crooks!
