Review: I brought my 2000 silverado to [redacted] to troubleshoot my cold start, cranking but no fire issues with my truck, and agreed to pay the diagnostic fee for the troubleshooting. They did the troubleshoot and gave me a list of what they found in the diagnosis. The only issue they found that could possibly be related to cold start issues was a "passlock" code. I told them to replace it because they said it would fix it. They replaced the passlock but said that the old one originally in the truck was tampered with and the tabs were broken off and they had to modify the new one to get it in the truck. I paid $115.50 for the diagnosis fee, 123.50 for the pass lock part, and $117.09 for labor to install it, $12.03 for shop supplies, and $18.41 sales tax. The very next morning when I went to start my truck, the starting condition had not changed, the truck would crank but not start. I called the dealership back informing them that the truck had not been fixed and they asked me to bring it back for further diagnosis, I refused to bring it back until I was told that since the passlock did not fix the truck, I would not be charged for it and would not be charged for further diagnosis. I brought the truck back in good faith believing that I would not be charged for the pass lock "repair". They called back and said that they were putting a new ignition switch in the truck because the switch was not allowing the fuel injectors to fire and they would let me know when the repair is done. I got the call that it is fixed again but they are now charging me for the original diagnostic fee, passlock parts and labor AND the ignition switch because they wont take the new modified passlock that they installed back out because it is modified. They charged me a diagnostic fee that they didn't even do a full diagnosis because they would have found the faulty ignition switch the first time if they had, then they're charging me for a parts and labor that didnt fix the truck and they wont take it back out, and now they're charging me for parts and labor for the ignition switch on top of the wrong diagnosis and parts fee. It is not fair for me to pay for their inferior work and troubleshooting to put parts in my truck that didnt fix the issue that I brought it there for. I have asked to have the new passlock removed and my old one put back in and be refunded for it, but they are refusing. I agree to pay for the new ignition switch. Not the passlock or labor for it since it was unnecessarily replaced and did not fix the issue I brought the vehicle there for.Desired Settlement: I will not pay for the anything related to the passlock or labor associated with it. It want to be refunded for the parts and labor involved with replacing it and wish to either have my old one re-installed or have them pick up the bill for false diagnosis. I will pay for the parts and labor associated with the ignition swich being replaced. I want my truck to be back in my hands fixed as promised.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Here is where [redacted] is mis-informed, and incorrect. I brought the vehicle in for diagnosis only of a COLD no start condition, Not a no start condition in general. I received a call stating that the diagnosis came back with the codes and broken cable and a "faulty pass lock". Since I paid for a full diagnosis, and the only thing that could possibly relate to the COLD NO START CONDITION, I was told this would fix my problem, so I gave them the ok to replace the passlock to fix my COLD start issue. Mr. [redacted] now stated that they "had no reason to go any further in our diagnosis because we had found a part not functioning correctly and replaced it and his vehicle started." Now, my vehicle started before I drove it to the dealership, it just wouldnt start in the cold weather after it had sat overnight. They could have replaced an air freshener because it wasnt performing correctly and started the truck with the same results and said it was fixed because the next morning after it was "fixed" the vehicle performed exactly the way it did before I brought it there.

I called the service center and informed them of the COLD no start issue not being fixed. I was asked to bring it back and REFUSED TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK UNTIL I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NOT BE PAYING FOR THE PARTS OR LABOR FOR MIS-DIAGNOSING THE ISSUE. The man I spoke on the phone with told me he did not have an answer for me so I told him to get an answer and call me back. He called me back and told me that they could not charge me for parts and labor if it did not fix the issue so I brought the vehicle back.

Now, Mr. [redacted] admits that "following the same diagnostic trail in the GM repair manual found that the ignition switch also had intermittently failed and replaced the switch to verify." Now if they would have followed the same diagnostic trail the first time when I paid for the FULL DIAGNOSIS, they would have found this issue the first time and I would have not had the Pass lock touched, rather bypassed it and the ignition switch replaced.

Mr. [redacted] now states that I was "trying to bully our advisor and was rude and used profanity in front of the child he brought with him". At that point I had been lied to THREE times and had thrown away $386.53 because they charged me for parts and labor for parts and labor that did not fix my vehicle. The first lie was that I was paying for a FULL DIAGNOSIS, which Mr. [redacted] admits they did not do the first time because they "had no reason to go further with the diagnosis", The second lie was that my truck was fixed, the third lie was that I would not be charged for parts or labor that did not fix my truck. And the Advisor was Rude to ME starting off by saying that if im trying to get my money back for the parts and labor for the passlock "im telling you right now that its not happening", Then he proceeded to say " You're just making up stories, so that you dont have to pay your bills". After I had already paid for the "repair", Is that how a professional dealership advisor treats its customers? I swore after he told me im making up stories not to pay my bills, I said "you didn't fix my f[redacted] truck."

Mr. [redacted] states that I asked for them to put my old passlock in my truck "days after the repair". He is mis-informed, because I asked for it to be put back in the next day when I brought my truck back in. He also states that my "vehicle would not have started with the old part because it failed the diagnostic test" even though I drove the truck there and brought the truck back for the SAME ISSUE as before they changed the passlock out. In the second page of their work order page RO#605473/1 in the work order section it states, "Diagnostics for not starting Theft Pass lock tried still no start Caused by found ignition switch faulty". It states right in their work order that the Passlock did not fix the issue.

The work performed in the original visit did not fix the issue. And they are charging me for parts and labor that did not need to be done. The dealership was not Honest or Fair As seen and You are getting Mr. [redacted]s' (third party) mis-informed opinion on the matter rather than the facts from the People involved. I never met with Mr. [redacted] nor was he present for any of the visits.

I have been taken advantage of by this business and they have not offered any assistance to me in this whole matter other than taking my money and not fixing my vehicle. I would never bring my vehicle back to this business nor recommend them to anyone for any repair work.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The vehicle is 14 years old with over 200,000 miles on it. What does that have anything to do with a bad diagnosis and lying to the customer and charging them TWICE after saying that I would not be charged and not fixing the vehicle?

This is now the 3rd time that this business has admitted that the initial visit did not fix the issue, and yet they still say that it is ok to charge me for it when I was told that I would NOT BE CHARGED for it because I refused to bring my vehicle back for service until I was assured that I would not be charged. [redacted]/638 had to call me back because I told him I would not bring my vehicle back and he said he did not have an answer. I told him to call me when he had an answer, he called back and said "we cannot charge you for something if it did not fix your truck"... which it did not.

They claim that they should have charged me an ADDITIONAL $235.00 for labor and diagnostics. Once again, I am disputing the initial visit cost, not the second cost. I should not have been charged for the initial diagnosis, labor or part that did not fix the issue. If it did not fix the issue or even make the slightest difference, it should not have been replaced.

[redacted] response quote "We believe we have contributed more than enough to an issue that was none of our making." I never blamed them causing an issue with the starting of my truck, and they should have written "We believe we have CHARGED more than enough to an issue that was none of our making."

In a nutshell here is my experience. Brought my truck there for diagnosis, was told the passlock would fix it, paid for diagnosis, parts and labor for passlock, got my vehicle, did not start, STILL HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS BEFORE I BROUGHT IT THERE, called the company and refused to bring it back until I was assured I would not have to pay for the visit, was assured by David J Wimmer/638 that I would not be charged, Brought my truck back, was charged again for parts and labor for the ignition switch, refused because I was told I wouldnt be charged for the first visit, talked to a "manager" who told me I am making up stories that my truck didnt start so that I didnt have to pay my bills, left and came back and asked what I have to do to get my truck back, they charged me for the new part on top of the original visit and I paid it.

Is this acceptable to treat all of your customers this way? If not, why am I being treated like this?!

On 6/5/15 I took my Vehicle in for a routine oil change and tire rotation. Per the dealers recommendation I also agreed to a coolant flush and an inspection that was covering many things such as hoses, door locks, door seals, etc. This inspection was $30.00. I have no complaints with any of the service work mentioned. While moving my vehicle the service tech (not 100% whom) struck something and damaged my driver’s side mirror. The dealership apologized for the accident and said they would order a new mirror & replace it. A few days had passed when I called the dealership asking if we could schedule the repair. The service person said the mirror did indeed arrive and we could plan a date to have it installed. At the time I asked the service person if the mirror was an OEM replacement, he stuttered a bit and said that it wasn't a new mirror but rather a used mirror which I objected to. He passed my concern to his superior (I assume), he proceeded to debate with me on the used mirror would be fine. I told him this was not acceptable and I wasn’t going to debate the issue, I requested a new (OEM) mirror with proof (invoice) stating as such. He said he would need to call me back. ... waiting for resolution.
