Review: My husband and I signed a letter of intent on Tuesday May 20, 2014 to buy a 2005 [redacted] Boat for $17,000 from The Pilot House Marina and Boat Sales (PHMBS). We worked with [redacted] & [redacted] that while we worked on getting the cashiers check for the agreed amount for the boat they were going to provide us with the service work orders and mechanic/service work that was performed on the boat over the years as well as having the Boats engine perform a test compression check done. [redacted] told us (while outside looking at the boat before negotions began) the cost for the compression check was going to be $150.00 but if we bought the boat they wouldnt charge us for the fee. While test driving the boat with [redacted], my husband and I the engine started to overheat. [redacted] explained that it was a Water Cooling Wheel that was bad and needed to be replaced. When we asked how much that was he replied $375.00 and that he wouldnt buy the boat without having that done. My husband and I agreed with him that was something that needed to be done before buying the boat. [redacted] also told us that when they do the compression check we might want to put in new spark plugs and we agreed. He told us that if the plugs were more than $7 the marina would give us a call before putting anything higher cost over $7. We agreed! [redacted], my husband and I were all in the office during the negotiations. My husband and I offed $17,000 for the boat they were asking $19,000. [redacted] then countered our offer and asked for $18,500 we declined and stood firm at our $17,000 number. [redacted] excused herself and seconds later [redacted] followed. After 5 minutes or so [redacted] came back in sat at her desk and said could we take $17,500 to make the buyer feel good. We explained that the boat had been sitting for a long time and didnt know what else may be wrong and we were taking a chance so we stood firm at $17,000. [redacted] agreed and started writing the letter of intent to buy. While doing so there was some confusion between PHMBS, my husband and I on if we were paying for the Water Wheel bill or the Compression check or what? After signing the Letter of Intent we also discussed buying a dry Boat slip so we could store our boat. PHMBS and I agreed on $3,500 annually. We agreed shook hands with both [redacted] and [redacted] then was escorted us outside so we could pick the spot where we wanted our boat sored. After showing us five spots my wife and I finally chose one. We shook hands again with [redacted] and told him wed be back in the next day or so with our money. On the way home my husband and I argued about what we were paying for and what we werent paying for over and above the agreed $17,000 for the boat. I thought one thing he thought something different. Not being able to come to an agreement we ended the discussion for the evening.I called the next day Wednesday 21, 2014 to try and clear up the confusion. I traded several calls and messages with [redacted] from PHMBS to try work through the mix up. [redacted] was very unprofessional and very rude when dealing with me about our two differences. I was extremely upset by her voice mail messages and couldnt believe how rude and argumentative she was. I tried again the following day Thursday May 22, 2014 to work with [redacted] through the differences and was still getting the same attitude and treatment from her. She just wanted to argue and yell at me over the phone about what we were paying for and what they were not paying for. I felt like I was being harassed/bullied by her. Ive been doing business for over 30 years and this isnt the way you treat a customer, especially a new one. While I was trying to work with [redacted] on the confusion I was called and asked by Potomac Marina to pay $309.28 for the compression check and new plugs that were performed on the boats engine. So in good faith I paid the bill. I called one last time that evening and still couldnt reach anyone so I left a message saying that we were looking at another boat and that we need to know what the final outcome was and if we didnt hear from them that we may decide to go with the other boat. No call back from PHMBS. My husband called on Friday May 23, 2014 at 10am in the morning in which [redacted] answered the phone. He asked for [redacted] and was told she wasnt there. I heard a voice in the background ask who was calling. [redacted] then asked who was calling and his answer was [redacted]. The response he got back was she was unavailable to speak to and she wouldnt be able to return my call for several hours. My husband then called again at 1pm and got to speak to [redacted] directly. The two went back and forth on the confusion and then agreed on a resolution. He told [redacted] that we had the cashiers check and that we would come down either that night or in the morning to finalize the transaction. At 3:45pm I received a call from [redacted]. When I returned his call I got [redacted] instead and she informed me that they sold the boat to someone else. She again was arguing with me so in disbelief I handed the phone to my husband which in turned was outraged but kept his calm. I could hear [redacted] screaming and arguing as to why they sold they boat. My husband then told her that we were going to file a Revdex.com Complaint and the only thing she said was Go Ahead, I dont care.In frustration my husband didnt want to hear [redacted] anymore so he just hung up the phone. I still cant believe that a business can even operate treating customers/consumers in this manner. Im so frustrated, disappointed, in disbelief, upset, angry and etc.. PHMBS has turned what should be a pleasant/exciting buying experience into a truly unbelievable fiasco. [redacted]Desired Settlement: We spent two trips from [redacted] county to [redacted], passed on other boats, paid for the Compression Check and New Spark Plugs for someone else's boat.We would like a a fulll refund for the engine test and plugs $336 and for time, gas and monnies out $150. In total $486.00
