I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint My whole reason for filing the complaint was because I wasn't getting my calls or messages returned, so being told to call back is not an action I believe will resolve my complaintHowever I can be called back, which was what I'd wanted in the forest place, at ***

I received a Bachelor's in Respiratory Therapy with an emphasis in healthcare management at PMI. I had a very positive experience at this college. The material I learned has helped me to advance in my career within six months of graduation. I would recommend this college. The only downside to this college is that it is nationally accredited and I wish it was regionally accredited. It was challenging, however not impossible, to get into a good graduate school.

I attended Pima Medical Institute between 2012-2014 in Las Vegas, NV. under their Respiratory Program. Although I graduated over two years ago and currently working in the field, I am still bothered by the unethical and unprofessional behavior of the staff members, particularly the Director of Respiratory. In my years of schooling including high school and community college I had never observed and experiences such behavior for a school that I am paying for and had to take a large loan for.

The Director of Respiratory Anthony E[redacted]'s primary concern is winning the yearly sputum bowl and he will do that however he can, school is not about discussion or having an opinion to help students formulate and research in their future studies, school is about Anthony's opinion and nothing else. If you disagree or attempt to introduce anything other than what he teaches or propogates then as a student you are asking for trouble and have placed a target on yourself. Anthony will not hesitate to resort to boot camp style tactics to belittle you in front of the class, slam his fist and even get in your face. Although I myself was not privy to such treatment, I did non many occasions witness this treatment on other students. Although I admit that such students had a tendency to be quite vocal at times about topics, this is not the way to address such situations, the school could have placed the student on probation, issued warnings and done this discreetly. Also, I feel that it is unethical for Anthony E[redacted] to have hired his fiance or long time girlfriend Aimee B[redacted] as the Clinical Director of Education, although they have never openly admitted to this relationship it is not hard to read between the lines, as they attend every event together to include her sons. It is apparent that his opinions transcend to her, which in turn sways her opinions and she has a deciding factor on whether or not someone passes a class or not.

I feel that if someone is going to attend school and place themselves in debt it is because we are seeking to make a change in our lives and hopefully in the lives of others, There is no need to mistreat people an make them feel threatened in any way because we wish to learn and expand on theories and ideas in the field of study. Perhaps this is the problem with private education, something that needs to be looked at going forward.

I feel that I am successful in this field, simply because I started school in my mid 30's have been exposed to the work force, have values and ethics and wanted to progress, regardless of the hurdles I would come across. Corporate may ignore the tactics used at this school simply because E[redacted] is providing them with the results they seek without really looking how he is doing this. As adults we don't want to attend a school that allows you to be verbally abused and berated in lieu of being kicked out of the program.

Horrible school! Don't even think twice before going there! They are in it for your money!

This school has AMAZING teachers but the financial aid department is horrible! They are rude, dont want to follow up, give you wrong information and don't know what they are doing! I have had nothing but issues with the staff in this department. After talking to fellow classmates they say the exact same thing. If you are looking to go to Pima BE ADVISED that the Financial Aid staff doesn't care who you are, what you have going on or what you need! You're better off to do as much as you can yourself! Dont waste your time dealing with them because you can tell they are only there for the paycheck! If they give you any information make sure you take it with a grain of salt because it is probably incorrect! Dont expect them to help you, they are not like more financial aid advisors.

I would like to report my experience in the Pima occupational therapy program. I have disabilities such as dysgraphia and ADHD that make it difficult and sometimes impossible for me to transfer knowledge from hand to paper. I use electronic devices such as speech to text to compensate for my deficits. I notified Pima of this during all stages of my entry into Pima. I told both admissions and the occupational therapy program director. I was told that this wouldn't be an issue because that is what OT specializes in. However, by 2nd semester it was an issue. The Ot program director said that there is a chain of command to go through when making requests beginning with the teacher if that does not work then go to the director of the program. I asked both my teacher and the program director permission to use my laptop for writing assignments and both turned me down. They stated that they believe that you will have to handwrite notes out in the field and therefore should not have equipment that helps with your deficits in the class. However, as of 2013 all medical notes are supposed to be electronic. Also according to the Americans with Disabilities Act if a company hires someone with a disability they are supposed to make reasonable accommodations and as I told the director I have doctor’s notes. I also requested not to have timed lab tests but was met with sarcasm and asked, “The other students have no problems with it what is your problem”. I would like to mention that the director herself said that she had no timed tests while she was in school because of her disabilities. When I asked my teacher for help she notified me that I was screwing around (exact words). In fact during the midterms I was halfway through my project before she revealed that we were doing our midterm. I told teacher then that if I was using my laptop the written part of this would be much better. Instead she was content on give me a 33 for my midterm. My teacher never gave any instruction instead she read directly from the book and that was class time. During class presentations the teacher actually rolled her eyes and scoffed at me multiple times during my presentation, (how professional is that). When I would ask for help on assignments I was always met with some kind of sarcasm. This made me feel intimidated and I got to where I did not want to ask for help and in turn I would be chastised for not coming in for help.

The OT program teachers can be very aggressive and mean to not just myself but all students. I felt as if we were all terrified to say anything because our careers and education were at stake. The teachers write up derogatory student evaluations and have us sign them under duress. While attending Pima I felt that I was emotionally abused and had experiences that cause me to feel low self-worth, rejection, anxiety, and fear. Several of the other students report feeling the same emotions but we cannot tell anybody out of fear of repercussions. I passed thirteen classes before failing one class that I had repeatedly requested accommodations for. If you fail even one core class you are removed from the program. I told the program director that I was on Facebook with my classmates letting them know what happened and that morale was a little down, and that the only reason I was telling her was because I wanted to see my peers succeed. Her response to this was to tell everybody that she demanded access to their Facebook site so that she could monitor and control what was being said. I thought she would give them a pep talk. This may have possibly been illegal per Arizona law of SB 14111 where a professional will not ask for passwords to social media. A professional may also not use social media to threaten anybody.

My mother was very concerned about whether I was going to be able to go back to Pima. She said to drop her a note and let her know whether I had any success talking with [redacted]. When I withdrew [redacted] said I could come back in January so I went on Facebook and said one simple phrase (Pima success). As I mentioned I use speech to text software such as I am doing now as I write this letter. My software translated what I said, (Pima success) as Pima sucks [redacted], a humorous mistake. I did not even realize this had happened until the program director e-mailed me and told me that because of what I said on my personal Facebook I would be on academic probation if and when I came back to Pima in January. She also stated that she printed out a hard copy to use against me. Then she accused me of slander even though when defamatory information is written it's called libel. I take great offense at being attacked over my personal Facebook. I felt the program director was conveying that I am not safe even amongst my own friends and peers. That just because I was no longer a student at Pima does not mean that she cannot control me. I take this as a threat that is not in the interest of Pima but in the interest of the program director. This goes be on her scope of practice and job description. I reported this to the school and was given a letter stating they disagreed with some of my statements. They also compensated $670 dollars. However because of this I am now $10,000 dollars in debt and lost a year of my life. I would never recommend Pima Medical Institute of Mesa.
