So, the store and I would know where I bought it from, what type of plant it is and that the price of the plant from the information on the tagI'm assuming from their bar code they could have determined when it was bought and what it was sold for but they had no interest in pursuing that

Our return policy clearly states you must have the purchase receipt to get a store credit. This customer did not have a receipt. Although the tags were present on the plant material the pricing lists only the original price. We are constantly running nursery specials throughout the season, which is why a receipt with actual pricing of the material is necessary. We could have turned the customer away entirely but acted in good faith and replaced the plants as if he paid the lowest sale price they could have been marked at.
