Initial Business Response /* (1000, 10, 2016/01/26) */
I will use the intitials M.E. for this writing. I would like to let you know that we have known this gentleman for over 13 years and have done (and continue to do) everything within our power to help him move forward in his life.
This...

individual was living in our Emergency shelter, then moved into our transitional program. We had never had bed bugs in that transitional building and we owned and ran it since 2000.
He had an episode of bed bugs in his room (only his room-no one else's on the floor). We treated the entire floor for bed bugs and at that time, we asked him to dispose of many of his items, because the exterminator requested it, except
for his oxygen machine and other items. (which he did)
Then a month or so later, this individual went to the hospital after a bicycle accident. He had an extended stay in rehab and we allowed him to move back into our transitional programming after rehab.
After a few months, an individual next door to him got some bed bugs. We only saw 4-5 bed bugs in his room. But when we checked the room of the individual(who this case is about), we found the entire room crawling with bedbugs. There were blood stains on the walls from where they had been smashed and they were literally everywhere.
The exterminator could not believe what he saw. He said this was the worse case he had ever seen in his entire time of working with Godfather's extermination. (several years) They had gotten onto the couches right outside his room also.
It was so bad, that there were literally piles underneath his bed of sheddings from the bed bugs.
They were crawling everywhere! We are not professional exterminators and the exterminator informed us that everything-absolutely everything-had to go. M.E.returned to our facility(evidently from being at the doctor for bedbug bites)and when he came in there were actually bed bugs crawling on him. We had to stop him and assist him to get clean clothes and what he needed to shower etc and try to get things under control. He was informed that his room was so infested that everything had to go. The exterminator said he could not treat any of the personal items, furniture, beds etc. They were too infested, they had to be disposed of.
We ended up throwing out all the furniture in his room (it was all ours), all the furniture in our living room (all couches, end tables, easy chairs etc), all furniture in rooms around him and all personal items within his room and the room next to him. It was so incredibly infested our maintenance team had to wear hazmat suits to try to prevent spreading.
We then found out that even though we had treated it the first time, M.E. had been going to his storage unit and bringing items from there.

We then had to heat treat his room and 4 bedrooms, the living room and the dining room. This cost $1850.00
M.E. stayed with us after this for about 2-3 weeks. During that time, we helped him call and assure he had medical coverage and ordered a new oxygen machine and checked on orthopedic shoes and the C-pap machine.
We also contacted Human Services to try to help him obtain any items he needed.
He then moved to Salvation Army as there was an opening there for him. When he left here, he took all of his personal belongings with him. He did not leave anything here.
As of today, he has used up his time at the Salvation Army and is back in our Sheltering program (this is our Emergency Shelter program, not our transitional program)
I did speak to M.E. this week, while he is staying with us.
I explained that we do not have his items and that he knew that and we had discussed it while he was still here.
We also discussed that when he left here, he still had some of his personal items and I do not know what he had and did not have, as he was continually going to his storage.( Both taking things there and bringing things back. )
Because he is staying here, I will not include my contact info in this response.
