Planet Fitness Kennewick Reviews (%countItem)

I had a basic $10/month membership and after many months I upgraded to a $20/month membership. I wasn’t told at the time that I was signing a contract of 12 months which had a $60+ fee for cancelling. I upgraded at the location at the counter and signed on the little counter device for accepting credit cards. I was never told verbally of the fees/contract. I am no longer able to make it to the gym so don’t want to keep paying the $20 mo they fee. I called to cancel and was told I’d have to pay the $60+ fee for breaking the contract, which I had no idea about. I discussed with the manager that the person who signed me up didn’t tell me about any additional fee. The manager refused to waive the cancellation fee even though he admitted it was morally not okay and agreed it was not fair. He kept saying that he has to stick to the contract. I was clearly not informed about the hidden fees associated with the upgraded membership cancellation. It appears that whoever signed me up was not honest and purposely didn’t mention/explain it to me. It feels like a scam. I was also told that my 12 month contract isn’t up until March 2020 and I have to keep paying the $20/month fee until then or I will face the $60+ fee, in ADDITION to that I will have to pay a yearly fee of $40+ in February even though I would be canceling the next month! So I’d be paying a yearly fee for only 1 month! It’s an unbelievable racket. I want to cancel without any penalty fee.

Dear Representative Revdex.com:

On the 25th of September member *** was properly informed how to cancel her membership. Information regarding how to downgrade her membership was also given upon request.

On the 25th of March member *** did upgrade her membership to the Black Card Membership. Three different portions of the agreement were signed separately, at the time allowing her to review all three as well. Upon completion of the membership a copy of ***’s agreement was immediately generated and sent over to the email provided for her retention, stating the terms and conditions of her membership including cancellation policies.

Please review said membership agreement with attached file. We trust said information is suitable please advise otherwise. We are more than glad to assist in either process of cancellation or downgrading with normal terms and conditions applying.

Sincerely,

My response is that I signed on a small pen pad, with about a 2x4 inch screen and didn't have the document to read prior to signing. I wasn't informed by the employee on the fees associated with canceling the membership. They omitted information and thus lied to me. my basic membership, which was a month to month agreement. I just assumed this was also a month to month agreement as that is a major selling point for planet fitness to advertise.

Thanks for the help

I attempted to close my account in person at the store at the beginning of October 2017 and was not helped in the store even though I brought in a signed letter. The company continues to debit my bank account which has caused me to get hundreds of dollars in over draft fees. I have also sent several e mails in which I was ignored until today and was told today I need to come in and close in person even though I did that already in October and was not helped properly.

My husband and I signed up with Planet Fitness in Kennewick, WA before it opened. We were told that we could cancel anytime with no restrictions. My mom had been a Planet Fitness member in her city for 5 years. Because of how this Planet Fitness has treated us, she is no longer a member of her location.

First, the gym was supposed to open before it did. Two days before they opened, our first monthly fee was taken out. Why was that when the gym wasn't even open to the public yet? We decided shortly after we signed up that we didn't want a membership. We went to the location, and were both told that we could not cancel without paying off our balance plus a $50 cancellation fee. Once again...um, why? We hadn't even set foot in that gym yet, and they are still charging us to be there. We've been in several times because we are charged every month. Let me say...We have NEVER used the equipment because we signed up and realized before they even opened that we wouldn't use the gym at all. Yet, every month we are charged for something we have never used. I was just charged $31.71 today. We have asked (including when we never had balances) to cancel and we were told we could not without paying off an imaginary balance plus $50 early cancellation fee. The people we have talked to there have always been very rude to us as it was. My husband's bank account is severely overdrawn by Planet Fitness, and I am still being charged off my credit card every month, even after stating numerous times that we don't want these memberships and WE HAVE NEVER USED THE PLANET FITNESS EQUIPMENT OR SERVICES.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing in response to a complaint we received on 01/15/2018, with the assigned ID.

*** signed up for a Black Card Membership at Planet Fitness during our presale special. As indicated within the membership agreement, the first monthly dues were scheduled to bill on June 17th, 2017. This was the date of our "soft opening", allowing our then current members to come and enjoy the facility before our "grand opening", which we had invited the general public to come down and tour the facility.

Mrs. was provided a copy of the membership agreement when she signed up, which details the terms of the membership, including the minimum term commitment. The Black Card Membership can be cancelled anytime in the first 12 months with a buy out fee of $58+tax. Any past due amounts would also need to be paid prior to cancelling the membership.

Members are contacted via text, phone and email to notify of missed payments and issues with their billing accounts. We had made several attempts to contact this member with the information provided on her membership agreement.

Since the club did receive payment for the first monthly dues, we would offer to have the membership closed upon receipt of the buy out fee.

A copy of the members agreement has been attached to reference the information discussed within this email and the letter that we received.
