Platinum Paint & Body Ltd Reviews (1)

asked them to perform a minor fix on my trunk lid while waiting for a part. They decided without my permission to prep and paint entire trunk for $600+Very bad communications from this shop. They are trying to force me to pay an extra $600 for unauthorized work on my vehicle on top of the $1600+ that I did agree to. They were waiting for a new bumper to arrive and I asked them " If you guys have time, could you fix a spot on the trunk lid? I made a bad touch up years ago to a chip that looks terrible and now might be coming off." The bad touch up is smaller than a dime covering a pin head sized chip in the trunk lid. I never heard back from anyone about my request until I went to pick up my car on June 12th and they went ahead and removed spoiler and all emblems, prepped and paint my whole trunk and want to charge me $600+. [redacted] Desired SettlementI will pay for the work that I requested and approved but nothing above and beyond that. [redacted]Business Response [redacted]. The customer asked us to "fix" a spot on the trunk lid". He made a bad touch up years ago to a chip that looks terrible and now might be coming off. To me we did the "fix" which included sanding, priming and painting. If the customer wanted a "touch up" I would have done a "touch up". Unfortuneately I did what was asked. I did discount this bill to less than my cost which was too fix his fix. Further more on the requested work for the rust on the car, we had reduced the labor rate from $87.00 per hour to $80.00 per hour. We have fit the rear bumper correctly. There is no way of doing this wrong. It slides into a plastic holder which is mounted on the body. The plastic holder is in its factory original place. The bumper slides into position and then all the holding clips and/or bolts all line up and bumper is fastened. No going wrong. I can take if off. If I am correct then the customer will be required to pay the removal and reinstall. If I am wrong it will be repaird.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I still paid way too much for something I didn't ask for. I also found many flaws in the paint such as 2 obvious large faded paint spots in the new painted area, and a water line cleared over from the fuel door plus sloppy paint slapper and clear coat residue in other areas. The shop also killed my battery that I bought new in January 2015 while they were working on my car. It was even dead when I came to pick up the car. They had to boost it a number of times to start it while in their possession. As a result, they fried some electrical components. The stereo will no longer will turn on. It was working fine when I dropped it off as my children and I were listening to music on the way to the shop when I initially dropped it off on June 1. I checked all fuses which are fine. They likely fried the [redacted] Radio module and/or the DSP Amp. [redacted] Final Business Response [redacted]During the week of July 13, Scott Robson dropped his vehicle off for us to look at. Here is what we found.1) The "faded" paint spots were areas that he asked us to polish. Further polishing of these areas brought the shine back.2) "Paint Slapper" and "clear coat residue", these areas were shown to our warranty representative, he immediately indentified these areas as previous repairs and the previous repair area is swelling. The warranty rep instructed us to polish these areas as well and also indicated they may continue to swell in the future.3) "The repair on the trunk" Unfortuneately I did as was asked by the customer and repaired the damage. He did not ask for a touch up.4) Since I have been in the auto body field we have dealt with dead batteries in vehicles. It is common practice to boost them. After doing this practice thousands of times, we have had only 1 issue, [redacted]. As we utilized the [redacted] boosting posts and boosted it according to [redacted]'s guidelines, I find no reason that we did anything wrong. While it is ufortunate that his stereo is not working I find no reason to believe we errored in the process. Furthermore, this system would be protected with fuses to prevent this problem. Lastly I took time to search for used [redacted] stereo components and I relayed this info to Mr. [redacted]. The problem is nobody is sure why it is defective. Unfortunelty we are unable to diagnose the problem as we do not have a [redacted] scanner nor are we familiar with any of the wiring for these stereo's.Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)Paint seems to be fixed but I have to do a hand wash to take a real good look at it this weekend. Regarding number 4, it is a known fact that jump starting a 2000-2003 [redacted] M5 can kill various components such as Navigation computer and Stereo related equipment. What procedure was used? [redacted]I have been the only one(NOT Platinum) that has suggested finding used parts to replace the broken ones and haven't heard back about going this route. [redacted] never relayed any info on getting used parts to me ever. I even gave specific links to the items([redacted] radio Module and also DSP AMP if the module didn't fix everything)and I am all in for going this route. I want to get this resolved ASAP. Let's get passed this. It was all working before Platinum took possession of my car to perform the body work. [redacted]
