After completing the roof I received a call from the customer ([redacted]) saying he had some issue with the roof. He was unable to describe what it was so instead of dispatching installers we scheduled our production manager (John) to meet with him and see what the problem was....

[redacted] cancelled the appointment the same morning we were supposed to meet. John was already in route so he went anyways and walked the roof. There were no problems that we could find. John called and left a message explaining that and to let us know what he wanted done.Several weeks went by and we never heard back from this guy. Our calls and emails were ignored. The approaching end of our lien period gave us limited time to resolve the issue. We sent a ten day demand letter explaining that non payment would result in a lien being filed against the property. Still no reply. As a courtesy I decided to call one more time to explain the process to the homeowner. He didn't answer so I left a voicemail explaining that after the lien is filed the property may be subject to foreclosure. He called me back within 15 minutes. Apparently he was out of town and had no email or cell service (seriously). I suggested having John back out there immediately to see what [redacted] wanted done. [redacted] said he was still out of town and wouldn't be back until the following week. I told him the lien would be filed before that so he said he could meet the next morning (not out of town I guess). John went to the house and met [redacted] the following morning. He said he wasn't happy with some flashing work and that his siding was damaged. During the roofing process the siding can be impacted so our contract explains that siding repairs will be billed separately. We offered to repair it using the agreed upon pricing schedule but [redacted] declined. We also proposed changing the flashing he didn't like right there. He also declined that offer. He said I shouldn't have threatened a lien and that he was going to have to think about it for a week. Hoping that the passage of a few days would help calm everyone's emotions down, I decided to give him a few more days to think about it. [redacted] didn't return any more calls. I made one more courtesy call, left a message and after receiving no reply filed the lien.
