Review: My son attended Play N Learn for two days a week between 9/10/2014- 9/18/2014. On the first day, Wednesday 9/10, we were concerned when my husband who had never met anyone at Play N Learn picked up our son without anyone asking for his name, nevermind his identification. I mentioned this the next day and the staff was very apologetic, saying their policy was to take IDs, although, again, they never asked for copies of either mine or my husband’s.

On Thursday 9/11, when I picked up our son, he had a series of four unexplained bruises on his face, two on his forehead and two below his eye. Considering the location of the bruises, I expected the staff to write some kind of incident report to relay what happened. However, neither staff member [redacted]n nor the owner [redacted] had any explanation.

My husband and I contemplated pulling him out after the second day, but the staff was very apologetic and we thought we would try for a second week, bearing in mind we were unable to find alternative childcare on such short notice. Our son returned to the center on 9/17, but by then we had lost our peace of mind and began to look for another center that could take him. Since we had already paid that week, he went again on 9/18, but I took off work and pulled him out after just 2.5 hours.

I spoke with [redacted]n about my two primary concerns on Monday 9/22, and later that day I received an email from the Director [redacted] whom I had never met. I responded to [redacted] with the reasons we were pulling out our son.

On Tuesday 9/23 I received an incredibly aggressive ten-minute phone call from [redacted] in which she did not let me speak, but proceeded to attack me as a mother (“What kind of mother are you if you had concerns about your child’s safety and you let him back in here?”), to dismiss the bruises as “marks," to accuse me of judging her staff who she has already reprimanded for making her “look stupid,” etc.Desired Settlement: The phone call from [redacted] was so abusive, I'm concerned about retribution for pulling my child out of Play N Learn. I would like no one from the daycare to ever contact me or my family.

Review: My daughter attended Play N Learn Daycare from 12/12 to 12/19/2013. From the beginning of our time with the facility, I saw signs that the establishment was not ran as a proper child care facility. Some examples of that were cleanliness, improper health certifications, and poor treatment of my child from the employees. To expand on the cleanliness of the facility, my daughter became very ill with Coxsackie Virus the last week in August of 2013. After speaking with her pediatrician, he told me most children are exposed to this virus through improper cleaning of the daycare facility and through feces. When I confronted the owner of the facility, she told me that that wasn't true and that my doctor did not know what he was talking about. As for the health certifications, when I told them that my daughter is prescribed an Epi Pen because of her peanut allergy, they told me that they didn't think they were certified to give her the injection. I told them that if they weren't I would not be able to send my daughter to their facility. They told me the following day that they were certified, but I don't believe that they are. I believe they just told me that so I wouldn't remove my child from the facility. About 2 days later, my mom called to ask the owners of the school if they needed a note for the Epi Pen while she was bringing my daughter for a check up at the pediatrican's office and the other director did not even know what my mom was speaking about. She had no idea my daughter needed an Epi Pen and there was no record on file in case of an emergency. They have several employees who miss treat the children and I was witness to a teacher miss treating another persons child right in front of me while I was picking up my daughter one afternoon. One of the teachers even tried to scare my daughter out of using her pacifier. My daughter stayed a student at the school because I was made aware that the employee no longer worked there after that incident.Desired Settlement: I had to remove my child from the facility on 12/19/2013 after the owner of the school called me at work and proceeded to harass me on the phone about why I requested all of my child's belongings be returned upon my child being picked up at her scheduled pick of time. I explained that I would call her back because I couldn't talk while at work, but she insisted that I explain to her what was going on. I told her that my daughter was not going to be returning after today and the owner became extremely upset and irate over the phone with me. I immediately removed my child from the facility in fear that they would hurt my child. I am filing the complaint not only for myself, but for the welfare of all of the other children currently attending this facility. I am asking to be reimbursed my security deposit of $135.00 that I gave to the facility when signing my child into the school on 12/2012. The facility did an injustice to my daughter and my entire family.
