I received this letter today dated 3/3/2015. So here is my response. Acrylic sweater was dropped off for cleaning about six weeks ago. The sweater was washed according to label directions. When the customer picked it up the following week she complained about it being stiff. So we kept...

it to try to improve the sweater appearance and quality. About 4 weeks later she called wanting $200 for the sweater. I asked if she had receipt or know where it was purchased so I could get it replaced. Then she was upset because we tried to fix the sweater, she just wanted $200, but she did not know where it was purchased or how much it cost. We told her would contact the manufacturer to get it replaced to, we did. We gave her the new sweater and the old as well on 3/6/15. She even complained we got the wrong size.Luckily we had the old for proof. I think all is well now. Turns out the sweater cost $29.00.

Review: I took my son's [redacted] uniform in for hemming. I had noticed that there was a hem in the jacket and that all it needed was to be taken out--there was a permanent hem in the jacket under the home made hem. I am positive that this was the case as I was going to try to correct the length myself but due to the fact that the pants needed hemming and the sleeves needed hemming, I decided to let this cleaner take out the old hem. When I took the uniform in, I explained all that I wanted done. I also explained that I did not want the cost to exceed $38.00-$40.00 at most. These uniforms are on loan to the [redacted] students... I did not want to spend a lot of money on alterations as my son has to turn this uniform back in at the end of the year. I talked with the [redacted] and he was not honest about the repairs. This person was not even there when I turned in the uniform for the specific alterations and he laughed when I tried to explain what I had originally asked for. These businesses should be held accountable for overcharging in any situation especially when the price was NOT explained.Desired Settlement: I would like a partial refund of the $63.00 paid. I had originally negotiated the price of $38.00 so I will be satisfied with a partial refund of $25.00.

Business

Response:

The business called and said sometime when they do work they find something in the job that would make it more expensive than the original estimate. However, the business is unaware of this customer and if she could provide a receipt that can look into the problem. The customer is also welcome to come into the store with the receipt and speak with the manager to work on the issue.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I went in twice to talk to the gentleman who owned the company and he could not explain the additional charges nor would he take any money off the price he made me pay. It was my son's JROTC uniform and I had no choice but to pay the price to get the uniform out of the cleaners. The owner knew I did not have a choice but to pay the overpriced amount. Talking to him would not resolve any issues.

Review: I received a very nice sweater as a gift. I took it to the dry cleaners to be cleaned because I wanted it done properly. When I got it back I realized immediately that it had been ruined. I asked for a refund for my cleaning fee and for the item to be replaced or to be refunded the cost of the sweater. the person at the counter said that they would speak with the owner. It is now over a month later and they are still giving me the "run around ". one person told me that they were going to refund me the price of the sweater. Another time I spoke with the owner he said that they had we washed it and it was fine. Which it was not! Then they told me that they had to get a replacement from the manufacturer. I have asked nicely for a refund and now I am completely fed up with this company. I truly feel like they are waiting for me to give up.Desired Settlement: I just want a refund and a replacement for the sweater that they ruined.

Review: I took 3 suits to have cleaned and was given the expectation in writing of a 4 day turn around. I returned 2 days after the promised date and after searching for 15 minutes, they found my suits crumpled in a bag on the floor within 10 feet of an open, unmonitored door. They reported them undone because the owner didn't understand the cleaning instructions (remove a chocolate stain) written by his employee. I was then promised he would work on it right away. I returned 3 days later and the suits remained uncleaned. I was then promised 2 days later and returned on that date. The suits were clean and I was able to take 2 of the 3. The third suit was reported by an employee to have the buttons ripped off by the machine. She went into detail describing how this occurs and told me she would have the owner repair the suit. A second suit had been pressed in a way that damaged a permanent crease that had been placed by the manufacturer. When I returned 3 days later for the damaged suit, the owner accused me of tearing off the buttons. When I told him they were present on drop off, his response was, "that's your story, mine is that you damaged your suit." At this point, I asked to have the suit back before more damage could be done. I now have 2 damaged suits tat a total value of $1,200 and was forced to pay full price for the cleaner's service despite being over a week late and now having to repair both damaged suits elsewhere.Desired Settlement: My first choice would be for the community to know the risk of going to this cleaner and that there are better options in town. My research since the event has discovered a pattern of this kind of activity from the owner. I only wish I had done more thorough research prior to dropping off the suits. I believe both suits are repairable, and if so, would only ask for the costs of the cleaning and repairs reimbursed. If not, I would like the cost of the suits reimbursed as one of the suits is only 6 months old and cost over $800.
