Complaint: I am rejecting this response because: the back seat was not comfortable at all That seat held people snug So the other seats were, from my reflection on April evening of 2017, comfortable-looking for bucket seats similar to an airline seat We in our party of two, did not speak up about the seats and below the back seat it was bumpy as if shocks needed replacement The driver drove his best and backed into an boundary object before parking at the site before the actual observatory or summit No damage to the vehicle but my party felt it and in fact my spouse cussed in response to the bump The roads in HI are weather-tempered (ie, pot holes will exist) My response is not due to the fact that the weather was cloudy Mauna Kea on YOUTBUE shows the environment, nor is the price more in reserving at the hotel accommodation Asking for the receipt of shocks on our vehicle before event tour (April 18, 2017) Sincerely, [redacted]

This is a response to the customer [redacted]’s complaint regarding his Mauna Kea Summit tour with Paradise Safari’s that he booked with the Pleasant Activities concierge at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.Due to a limited number of DLNR permits for tour companies to...

take guests to the summit of Mauna Kea, seats are limited and the tours sell-out daily.  We have two companies that provide English speaking tours to the summit, Paradise Safari’s and Hawaii Forest & Trail.  These guests secured seats with Paradise Safaris. The vans that Paradise Safaris use are simply the most comfortable option they can possibly provide in the category of 4x4 passenger vans that can safely drive to the summit of Mauna Kea, AND still fit the dimension regulations put in place by the, Office of Mauna Kea Management. They are strictly regulated on the over length and width of their vans in accordance with their permit.  In addition to the dimension restrictions, they also must consider safety over all other aspects of their choice of vehicles. The vans used on the night of this tour on April 18, 2017 were 4X4 Mercedes Sprinter vans, and they have been “up-fit” or converted to have larger than the stock seats than these vans normally come with.  The seats chosen by Paradise Safaris, and the spacing between them, are the largest possible dimensions they can use, and are a significant improvement upon the seats that come stock in the van. They do not make any mention of where customers will sit in the van when they purchase their seats, and they make it a point to put their largest, and less mobile customers in seats that help with access. Their next goal is to sit customers next to others within their party, so they can at least be near each other while they drive to the summit. This tour is largely based on the experience outside the van at their various stops on Mauna Kea. On this night, Paradise Safari’s customers were treated to a typical tour, not unlike many of their other successful tours throughout the year.  They have not received any other complaints of this kind from the night of this tour, or any others. These guests were provided the best experience possible, in a very comfortable Mercedes Sprinter.  Both Pleasant Holidays and Paradise Safaris worked diligently to service these guests and we do not believe a refund is due to the guests at this time.Should you require further information, feel free to contact me directly.Rita M.Concierge Manager, Hawaii IslandPLEASANT HOLIDAYS LLC75-5852 Ali’i Drive | Kailua-Kona Hawaii 96740

I am rejecting this response because:  the back seat was not comfortable at all.  That seat held 4 people snug.  So the other seats were, from my reflection on April 18 evening of 2017, comfortable-looking for bucket seats similar to an airline seat.  We in our party of two, did not speak up about the seats and  below the back seat it was bumpy as if shocks needed replacement.  The driver drove his best and backed into an boundary object before parking at the site before the actual observatory or summit.  No damage to the vehicle but my party felt it and in fact my spouse cussed in response to the bump.  The roads in HI are weather-tempered (ie, pot holes will exist).  My response is not due to the fact that the weather was cloudy.  Mauna Kea on YOUTBUE shows the environment, nor is the price more in reserving at the hotel accommodation.  Asking for the receipt of shocks on our vehicle before event tour (April 18, 2017).
Sincerely,
[redacted]
