Landscaper layed sod, and all sod died. I contacted the sod company and was told that the landscaper used the wrong sod for the job. We used him as a landscaper to lay sod and put drainage in, all of the sod died. We contacted him about this and he was not taking responsibility. Then he had us contact the sod company and the sod company told us that he used the wrong sod and that with the shade in our back yard we shouldn't have paid to lay any sod because it would not survive. After telling him this he said we should cut down our trees. Then I asked for a refund and he told me I had the wrong phone number,Desired SettlementA refund for the sod that was placed incorrectly and died.Business Response [redacted] after being hired by them previously they had hired me again too put down some sod in the dry riverbed and I basically matched the competitors price that they already had comma so I used the voice excuse me the comprise Compadre Zoysia that I've always used for a shade grass that shaves son's situation which they have and there are grass did not take not sure why I was happy to have resolved the problem with them and make them happy but I have a a thread of text with just a lot of curse words and bad language and I can't really go out there under those circumstances so never refuse to make to make it right I was also accused of some kind of processing tree work with a retaining wall that I had no part of so it doesn't seem like they want to make a peaceful resolutionConsumer Response This resolution makes no sense. We have a copy of every text message sent. The only profanity used is the word [redacted], once. The word was used to describe our yard, which is in no way a threat to him. [redacted] had previously offered to put up a retaining wall, which we declined because of the protected tree area. He also recommended cutting down some trees to "allow light in" which we cannot due as this is a protected tree area. Offering to match another landscapers price and "not being sure" why the "grass didn't take", is still his responsibility as he charged us a great deal of money to lay the sod, which was clearly not the appropriate choice for our yard. This abnormal explanation and justification is not an appropriate resolution. Since he cannot "go out there under those circumstances" we are requesting a partial refun of the money spent on the sod.

Complaint[redacted] did not complete work and was paid in full.We hired [redacted] with Pleasant Surrondings to do some hardscaping for us. We wanted some azalea and holly bushes pulled up with the roots, the sidewalk to be broken up, the waste to be hauled off, and the area smoothed out in prep for a new covered deck being built on our home. The azalea bushes were pulled up, then placed on a storm debris pile at our curb. Two holly bushes were pulled up, but left sitting in front of our house. The third holly bush was cut off, and [redacted] was going to put arsenic in it. We requested for it to be pulled out, or dug up, as it would interfere with the footings on the new deck. [redacted] hauled off about half of the concrete chunks from the sidewalk on Sunday. He said he would be back the following day for the other half, and to remove the last holly bush. On Monday, our contractor said the concrete was going to be in their way, so I attempted to contact [redacted]. I did not get a reply until late in the day, and it only said he was sick. Our contractor had to remove the concrete and bushes, so they could proceed with their work. The contractor is going to dig up the last holly bush, and smooth out the surface for the footings. Our price with our contractor did not include this additional work, so we will be paying for the extra labor. Also, the contractor put the cement in the construction dumpster. We have been told that we will be charged if the contractor goes over the allowed amount with the dumpster. We paid [redacted] in full for the work he was supposed to do, and we are paying our contractor for labor and likely for the extra waste as well on top of that. When [redacted] asked about doing additional work he had quoted us a price for, I said I did not want him to do the work. He was very unprofessional and rude in his response. I would warn anyone considering his services to find someone else to do their work, or you will pay much more in the end to get it done.Desired SettlementI seriously doubt you could get any money back from [redacted]. I just want to help warn others about him, so hopefully they do not have to deal with the same experience as I did. Very unprofessional!

Complaint[redacted] took the money for the job and then never finished up the work. He hung up on me when I confronted him about it.The job was to:Dig aropx two-three feet down along front of house.Brush dirt off of foundation coating, and recoat it twice.Install French drain so as to keep water from foundation.Burm up dirt along foundation to direct water into French drain.Have French drain spill out water away from house on opposite side of sidewalk.Repair void in corner of foundation as discussed.Spray for mold inside crawl space as a precaution.Clean up work area when finished."Burm up dirt along foundation to direct water into French drain and Clean up work area when finished" were never done. He left the drainage pipe in a hole in the front yard and then told me how to I needed to fix it. He hung up the phone on me when I requested he finish the job.Desired SettlementRefund of $500Business Response [redacted] and reached a compromise, The Job clean-up didn't go very smooth dur to rain and red clay, he actually cleaned up before we could Finish I am going to go out there and remove some dead bushes for him.Consumer Response Initially, [redacted] stated the job would be done in 3 days. He started on a cold dry Saturday with 2 helpers. The next day was 50 degrees and sunny, and no one showed up. They came back a few days later and did most of the job. They left an entire truck load of dead bushes and and 500 lbs of red clay on the side of my house and in our flower beds. No big deal. 1 week goes by without much contact. The next Monday, I asked [redacted] to return by Thursday the next week to complete the job, and he agreed. After no reply to my text about finishing the job on Thursday all day, I spent about 3 hours removing excess clay from the flower beds. They showed up at 6:00 pm in the dark and took away the excess clay. He seemed surprised that I was working on the job, as if I didn't any chance to finish it up. I asked him about the drain pipe they left in the middle of the yard, and he explained to me how I should finish it up. I spend another 5-6 hours extending the drain pipe 10 feet down the yard so it follows the slope of the yard. and drains out the water properly. That was the last time I saw [redacted]. He does text me every 3-4 days, but we have not "reached a compromise."I have asked him for a refund of $200 for $20/hour for 10 hours of work I had to do.

Mr. [redacted], owner, has taken money from me without performing services and has asked for more money. He illegally entered my yard and took items.I entered into contract with Pleasant Surroundings for a waterfall. Agreed amount was for $5500. $2750 was given up front to secure material. He told me he has been cited for false advertising and unlicensed work in the past. His work was sub par and he continually asked for money. He never showed up and the waterfall was not even half done when he asked for more money. He was told to leave job and settle on a reimbursement amount. He refused and illegally entered my yard to secure his tools and the paid equipment that I paid for.Desired SettlementI am willing to accept $2,500. I believe he is entitled to the $250 from the initial check.

Work completed on retaining wall was inferior. Requested numerous times for it to be corrected, but to no avail.Contracted to have existing retaining wall replaced. Contractor stated would begin work in Feb 2013, but did not start until Mar 2013. I had to call contractor numerous times to get the work completed, which was finally done in Apr 2013. In May 2013 I contacted the contractor to inform him that some of the filler used in the new retaining wall had washed away and needed to be replaced. Contractor stated he would take care of it. I did not hear back from the Contractor so I contacted him again in Sep. Again, he stated he would take care of it. Four months went by, I never heard from the contractor so I contacted him again on Sept 18 sending him photos of the condition of the retaining wall that had several areas where there was little or almost no filler. Additionally, I informed the contractor that a couple of the brick stones laid for a step were loose. Contractor called me at 10:00pm that evening, again said he would take care of it and asked me to call him in a week if I had not heard from him in regarding to scheduling a date to fix it. I called the contractor on Oct 1st and left a voice message for him to return my call. I did not hear from him and sent a follow-up email to him on Oct 6th. To date I have not heard from the contractor.Desired SettlementI would like the contractor to take care of replacing the filler that was used for the retaining wall with something that will not wash away with a heavy rain. I would also like the brick steps laid to be re-glued as I am concerned that as an older person I could step down on one of them and fall.Business Response I can use re-bar and concrete to address [redacted]'s problem. She will just have to cover the cost of materials a labor... $325 Consumer Response The company initially offered to correct the problem at no cost to me, but it appears has since reneged on that offer. I do not feel that I should have to bear the cost of fixing what should have been done properly when the work was originally done. If the company does not want to stand behind its' work at no cost to me, then I will be forced to pursue this matter further through other avenues.

Pleasant Surroundings installed a retaining wall that failed after 6 months due to construction defects. My contract stated that the retaining wall would be built with proper drainage along with gravel behind the wall. A french drain was built at the top of the wall instead of the bottom. He backfilled with dirt up against the wall. In addition he failed to put in a proper foundation. This required the entire wall to be rebuilt.Mr [redacted] then said he would repair the wall and do whatever it took to make it right. I gave him that chance and he failed to live up to those promises. I fired him after he didn't show up for three weeks. The two days of work that did occur only made the problem worse. I was fortunate to hire another contractor to repair the wall before my entire backyard washed away and I lost the playset that was installed.I have had to redo other minor projects that Mr [redacted] initially did. He built two garden beds and put gravel around the outside. He failed to put landscape fabric under the rock. After the wet summer we had the about half the rock had sunk into the ground. I dug it out and placed the landscape fabric to stop the rock from sinking again. He also plugged some of my sprinklers with mud. He damaged one head during contstruction and instead of replacing it just removed it and buried the tubing.Desired SettlementI am seeking a review to be filed and printed to warn people about Pleaseant Surroundings and the shoddy work that they perform.
