Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy a car from these scam artists!
I should've shopped around more but was in a bind and needed to get a carDid my research and found one I liked that they had in stock
The car was listed far above KBB valueWhen I came at them with a lower offer to the fair value, the sales associate treated me like a mn and said I didn't know how the car industry workedI've negotiated and bought several cars all with good results until this experience
Because I wanted them to knock $off, they said it could be done but that they would not do any repairs that I requestedThey were cosmetic and supposedly the car was in great condition otherwise so I opted for the money off
It's been less than a year since I bought the car and I've had to replace the brakes, get a new radiator, a panel on the side is falling off, and there is rust EVERYWHERE underneath which I did not think to checkI'm down $1,in repairs so far off an initial $3,investment
To top is off, the car broke down again last week and the bill is $I did some research and it turns out there is a recall on my vehicle that was issued just a few months beforeAccording to the records this is when they bought it...something tells me this isn't a coincidence
Called to talk to them about it and as soon as I said it could be considered fraud they said call a lawyer and hung up on me
Deception is the name of their game, don't play

Review: POINT LOMA PREOWNED SOLD ME A LEMON. I PURCHASED A CAR FROM THEM, AS IS. THE CAR THEY SOLD ME HAD ALOT OF DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD. ABOUT 4000 DOLLARS WORTH. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THEM AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF DRIVING IT, FOR ISSUES WITH THE FUSE. THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK WHEN THEYRE MECHANIC WAS THERE. THE SECOND WEEK, I WENT TO GET THAT FIXED. THE THIRD WEEK, I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY DYING, I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THEM AGAIN. THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY, AND TRIED TO BLAME THE 3 YEAR OLD DEAD BATTERY ON ME. THEY CHANGED IT OUT FOR ANOTHER USED BATTERY THAT THE PUT ON THE "CHARGER" FOR 24 HOURS, MAKING IT "BRAND NEW". WHEN THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY OUT, I ASKED THEM TO CHECK MY A/C. THEY TOLD IT WAS THE AC COMPRESSOR, THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FOURTH WEEK, I REPLACED THE BATTERY WITH A BRAND NEW BATTERY, AFTER PAYING FOR A DIAGNOSIS TO TELL ME THE BATTERY HAD A BAD CELL. AFTER TWO MORE WEEKS OF HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, I TOOK THE CAR TO SOUTH BAY VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP TO LEARN THAT I HAD PURCHASED A LEMON. THEY QUOTED 4000 WORTH OF REPAIRS. SOME OF THE PROLEMS INCLUDE: THE VACCUUM PUMP IS LEAKING OIL, THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT AXLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, THE LEFT OUTER REAR TAIL LIGHT IS MELTING THROUGH ITS CASING, ENGINE PANELS ARE MISSING, A/C WIRING IS CUT, AND THE TUBING THAT CONNECTS THE A/C TO THE CAR ITSELF IS MISSING, REAR BRAKES ARE COMPLETELY WORN, THE DOOR LOCK MODULE REMAINS IN A CLOSED CONDITION. THE REPAIR BILL DOES NOT EVEN ADDRESS THE BATTERY DRAIN ISSUE.Desired Settlement: ID LIKE FOR THIS VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. WITHIN A MONTHS TIME, THIS SHOULDNT BE HAPPENING.

Response:

THIS COMPLAIN IS BASELESS AND ITS NOT A TRUE STATEMENT , Mrs [redacted]

PURCHASED THE MENTIONED VEHICLE ON 03/04/2013 , BEFORE THE PURCHASE SHE

ASKED IF SHE CAN TAKE THE CAR TO HER MECHANIC , OUR ANSWER WAS YES , SHE

THEN CHANGED HER MIND AFTER HER COMPANION DROVE THE CAR AND CHECKED IT

FOR HER , THEN WE OFFERED HER TO PURCHASE THE 48 HOURS CANCELLATION

OPTION WITCH SHE REFUSED , THEN I OFFERED HER TO PURCHASE EXTENDED

WARRANTY BECAUSE WE COULD NOT, GIVE HER ANY WARRANTY FROM OUR COMPANY

FOR NOT HAVING SERVICE DEPARTMENT , AGAIN SHE REFUSES TO BUY ANY

EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT FOR HER NEWLY PURCHASED USED CAR , AFTER 3

WEEKS SHE CAME BACK ARGUING ABOUT LOW AIR TIRE , NEXT WEEK FOR CHARGER

PROBLEM AND FINALE FOR BATTERY PROBLEM , AND ALL THIS TIME WITH BAD

ATTITUDE , HERE AT POINT LOMA PRE OWNED WE ARE COMMITTED TO A GREAT CUSTOMER

SATISFACTION BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE WE SELL USED CARS AND BUYERS HAVE TO

BE RESPONSIBLE AND NOT THINKING THEY ARE BUYING A CAR WITH LIFE TIME

WARRANTY , OBVIOUSLY THIS BUYER DOESN'T KNOW THE DEFINITION OF LEMON

VEHICLE , WE STAND BUY OUT SERVICE AND PRODUCTS AND TRY OUR BEST TO HELP

CUSTOMERS AS MUCH AS WE CAN . UNFORTUNATELY THIS BUYER HAS HIGH

EXPECTATIONS BEYOND THE REASONABLE , I AM SURE IF THIS CAR WAS LEMON

WOULD NOT BE PASS SMOG AND DMV WOULD NOT TRANSFER IT TO NEW BUYER , AND

HER BANK WOULD NOT ANY ISSUE LOAN ON THIS CAR , SHE HAS TO UNDERSTAND

THAT SHE BOUGHT A CAR , A MECHANICAL DEVISE THAT HAS LOTS OF EQUIPMENT

WITH A LIMITED LIFE TIME , THIS DEAL HAPPENED UNDER THE CA LAW AND WE

DID ALL THE NECESSITIES THAT LAW REQUIRES AND EVEN HELPED HER MORE , AS I SAID

WE ARE ALWAYS STAND BY OUR VEHICLES AND ALWAYS HELP FAIR AND RESPECTFUL

CUSTOMERS, . SORRY NO RETURN OR ANY MORE REPAIR FOR THIS CUSTOMER.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

THE OWNERS OF THIS BUSINESS WERE NOT FORTHCOMING. YES, I WAS OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTIES, AND TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED ON A DAY WHICH MY MECHANICS WERE NOT WORKING. MY FRIEND AND I TEST DROVE THE CAR TO MAKE SURE IT RAN, NOT TO TEST ALL MECHANICAL ISSUES.THE BATTERY ISSUE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN TESTED FOR DURING A 20 MINUTE TEST DRIVE. THE LEAK IN THE VACCUUM PUMP IS NOT SOMETHING YOU COULD SEE IN A 20 MINUTE TEST DRIVE. THE REAR TAIL LIGHT MELTING THE CASING IS NOT SOMETHING YOU COULD SEE IN A 20 MINUTE TEST DRIVE. THE DOOR MODULE MISFIRING IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN SEE IN A 20 MINUTE TEST DRIVE. THE MISSING SPLASHGUARD IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN SEE WITHOUT LIFTING THE CAR UP. WHEN YOU PURCHASE A USED CAR, YOU EXPECT FOR IT TO RUN FOR A FEW MONTHS BEFORE YOUR FIRST REPAIR. AFTER FURTHER REVIEWING THE WARRANTY I WAS OFFERED, I READ THAT IT DID NOT COVER ANY PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS. I WAS NOT EXPECTING MY CAR TO HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY. THIS WOULD BE MY 4TH USED CAR PURCHASE. WHAT I WAS EXPECTING WAS LEVEL OF QUALITY FROM A COMPANY THAT CLAIMS TO "STAND BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES". WHEN I TOOK THE CAR FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AT SOUTH BAY VOLKSWAGEN, THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE REPAIRS THAT WERE NEEDED COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CAUSED IN ONE MONTH OF DRIVING, AND COULD ONLY HAVE COME FROM THE PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS.AS A MEMBER OF A COMMAND THAT STRIVES FOR CONSTANT SEA READINESS, I BARELY DRIVE THIS CAR FOR MORE THAN THREE HOURS EACH WEEK. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THEY KNEW THIS CAR NEEDED EXTENSIVE REPAIRS,SO THEY MADE IT LOOK PRETTY IN ORDER TO SELL. I'VE ALSO NOTICED THAT THESE "GENTLEMEN", ARE EXTREMELY DEMEAING TOWARDS FEMALE CUSTOMERS. NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EVER BEEN BLAMED FOR DRAINING AN ALMOST THREE YEAR OLD BATTERY WITH 9 HOURS OF DRIVING. WHY WOULD A BATTERY THAT SITS FOR ALMOST 4 DAYS AT A TIME FOR THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT SUDDENLY NOT BE ABLE TO START WITHOUT A JUMP. SINCE THIS CAR IS NOW "MY PROBLEM", THE DECLINE OF THEIR MILITARY BUSINESS WILL BE THEIR PROBLEM. THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR THE ISSUE, OR REFUND THE MONEY, MY NEXT ACTION WILL BE TO HAVE THIS BUSINESS PLACED ON A "BLACK LIST" FOR MILITARY MEMBERS. ID LIKE TO SEE HOW WELL THIS BUSINESS SURVIVES IN A MILITARY TOWN.

Review: On October 26 2013 I bought a 2001 Toyota Tundra from Point Loma Pre owned. I did most of the deal with [redacted] which I believe is the owner of the car lot. That same day I took the truck for a test drive and the car was fine. I took it to a mechanic and he test drove it and said it was ok. So I proceeded with the buy of the truck. Note that this was my first time buying a car. Now I don't remember if it was that same day but the check engine light came on and I told [redacted] and he was happy to replace it, but he didn't fix it himself. He said I could take it to my mechanic so they could put it on. Now on that same October 26 2013 I finished the paperwork. The truck was being sold AS IS and seeing as the car was ok, I took it. He said he was going to do the smog for the truck because the truck didn't have tags. But that same day when it came to signing papers and giving the down payment he said he would deduct 100 dollars from my down payment so I could smog it. The tags were expiring November 2013. He said he would take care of the paperwork for the registration and all. At this point I wasn't aware that it was the law that whoever sells a car, they need to smog it before it is sold. So I agreed on smoging it myself, didn't know the law and didn't think it was going to be a big deal. Now, 3 days later everything came down hill. I bought it on a Saturday and the check engine came back on again on a Monday because I remember going to school that day. I talked to someone from the car lot that day I believe and they didn't really like that I called about the check engine light. I told them I needed it to be fixed so I could do the smog. Gave in and told me to bring it in so it could be checked out. I had contacted a mechanic so he could run the trucks computer and said the code was related to the catalytic converter and most likely it was that. I went to my mechanic and told me the same thing. There are other things that could have made that code pop up but most likely it was the catalytic converter. Those are expensive and at that point I didn't know the truck had two of them until later. So I went up to Point Loma Preowned and spoke to [redacted] and he wasn't happy with the idea of fixing the truck. He didn't want to. But I told him I just bought the truck, and if I was going to do the smog I needed to fix it. He said he wasn't going to spend that much money on fixing the truck at all, that what if a year later I came back to complain about more car problems. Finally he called his mechanic over and scanned the car and he got the same code and he went inside to research the code. He said that the code could be anything related to the catalytic converter like spark plugs, sensor. I know what was wrong with the car and I’m almost positive that the catalytic converter was the problem but I didn't want to argue anymore with them so I told them to fix whatever they thought was the problem so I could smog it since the month was coming up. So they let me borrow a car and I left them my truck. at this point I knew things were going to be bad and I was going to have problems with them because I just bought the truck, I was doing the smog on my own and I was already having problems with the truck that prevented me from smoging the truck and they didn’t want to fix the issues. Every one of those times that I encountered a problem with the truck I got the prices for the parts from AutoZone, Napa, CARQUEST and then I checked in with mechanics to see how much the pieces were and how much it would cost to install them. Every time I spoke to [redacted] about the prices he would ask why so expensive, that he could get them way cheaper and all these excuses. A Catalytic converter for a Toyota Tundra that needs California emissions is worth 410 dollars, he said he could get it for 100 dollars which is impossible. The sensor that he bought is worth around 40 dollars and he said he hat they let got it way cheaper which if I remember he got it right away in 20 mins for 10 dollars. So I drove away with the car they let me borrow and left them my truck. They had it for about a week and I don't remember exactly what week. finally I got my truck back and [redacted] said he spent almost 200 dollars fixing it and that I had to run it so the car would regulated itself so I could smog it. I thanked him and I walked away. Once again a few days later the check engine light went on and the same code came up with 4 more codes with it. Catalytic converter code with a few Evap codes. All those fixes and parts are really expensive and I received an estimate of around 1000 dollars and that is the cheapest I could find but that all depends on the cost of the parts. I called [redacted] once again about the car. This time he did not like my calling. he said he couldn't fix it, that he didn't know where I came up with an estimate of 1000 dollars when he could fix it for 300 and pass the smog himself. Which to me seemed way odd? I kind of knew that if I let him fix it, that he would do some king of trick to the car and pass it illegally. NOTE THAT NOT ONCE DID HE MENTION THAT HE HAD SMOGED THE CAR WHEN HE FIXED IT THE FIRST TIME. I WILL EXPLAIN THIS AT THE END OF MY COMPLAINT. During the call he said he was tired of arguing with me, that I always call him to fix my truck and that he could not fix it and he had helped me a lot and he had been nice to him. I told him that I felt screwed over because I know I bought a truck as is but I had to smog it myself, it started having car issues which prevented me from smogging it and I was not about to spend money I didn't have when he was supposed to fix it and he finally said he could change the catalytic converter and smog it for 300 dollars but that he was going to bill me for it. To me it didn't feel right that he was going to fix it so cheap and that he was going to add 300 to my car bill. I felt ripped off. We argued for about an hour and came to a VERBAL agreement that he was going to charge me 300 and he would fix it and get this done and over. I didn't think about it I just wanted to stop arguing with someone who was ripping me off. That same day he said he would get the parts and call me the following Monday to bring in the truck. I had enough with these people. I felt robbed. He was supposed to call me last Monday November 18. I did not hear one call from him. I called him and no one answered, and I called him again and nothing and I finally called him a 3rd time and someone answered but said he wasn't there and I told them to tell [redacted] that I had called him. out of curiosity I decided to call the DMV and spoke to Lorie and asked if anything was done to the truck paper wise and that I had a situation with the car and couldn't smog it. This is where everything reveals. I spoke to Lorie and explained what was going on and she kept telling me the car issues with fixing were my problem and that I had bought it as is and to next time double check everything. I was trying to explain to her my situation but she kept insisting that it was my problem because the smog had ALREADY been done on November 7 2013. This is where it all shocked me and she understood what I explained to her. I had the car the whole time except for a week when they were just going to fix it. Point Loma Pre Owned or [redacted] never told me they had smoged it even after the endless calls to them to fix my car so I could smog it. Not only do I believe [redacted] tried to rip me off with an extra 300 dollars to "put a new catalytic converter and smog it" but I’m 99.9% positive he knows he passed the car illegally on November 7 and that he knew the truck had all these problems since he first acquired the truck and knew they were really expensive but he decided to go the cheaper way and pass it illegally and let someone else buy the car, get his cash and pin all the truck issues on someone else so he won’t pay for it. [redacted] doesn't know that I found all this out. My biggest issue besides them trying to make me smog it and passing it illegally is that I believe he knew about the car issues and didn't want to fix it so he sold it like that and pinned it all on me and says it’s not his problem. the reason I know it was done illegally is because if according to the DMV he did the smog on November 7,all the car problems should have been fixed before it was smogged but they still come up with the check engine light. when they fixed it the first time according to them, I checked the car out and the possibilities that the catalytic converter code could be something else but none of those parts were changed either at all and he said he fixed them and spent so much on it and he never gave me a receipt of the fixes at all. I called [redacted] 2 days after the Monday when he was supposed to fix it and once again they didn't answer and when they did, they said he wasn't there and I told them to tell him to call me that it was important about the truck and he never called. Now I decided to file a complaint after the DMV gave me the website to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I tried calling the car lot and tried my best to contact them to tell them all I found out and see if they would correct themselves and fix my car and tell them what they had done was illegal but they didn't answer and didn't borrow themselves to talk. I hope to resolve my issues as soon as possible because I don't think any of this is fair to me. I’ve spent time off work to go talk to the car lot and a lot of fuel on my truck because some of the issues on the truck make it wastes gas faster and I want to get to the bottom of this. They took me as a fool and I don't think it is fair to take my kindness for weakness. I have a diagnostic paper saying what is wrong with the car and how much it’s going to cost to fix it. Please help me get to the bottom of this. One last note, on my bill of sale of the truck it says they charged me 55 dollars to smog the truck on October 26 when it wasn't smogged at all until November 7 but as far as I believe, it was done illegally and I was never aware of any of this. This vehicle has 2 catalytic converters. They think I want the truck like new but that is not what I want. what I want is the truck to be fixed according to what the check engine light says that way it is ready to be smoged and passes. the catalytic converters need to have California emissions and the makers are Magnaflow. I am almost positive the catalytic converters are part of the problemDesired Settlement: I want Point Loma Pre owned Inc to either fix my car properly(with legitimate parts not cheap parts) which means whatever is making the check engine light to go on and smogged properly and I want receipts of all the work and parts they put in or I can can bring them legal paperwork of how much it will cost me to fix the issues with the car according to the check engine light, which include a diagnostic reports, pricing and labor and they can deduct it from what I owe them for the truck. I will bring them the receipts and paperwork.

Hi My name is [redacted] , I was out of office in an emergency matter and now that I am back I can respond to this claim , on oct 26, 2013 Mr [redacted]s stopped by at our dealership to purchase a 2002 Toyota tundra we notified him that the car has been sold , then he showed interest in a 2001 toyota tundra that we just got in , I told him the car is not ready and we need to check it and smog the vehicle and this is when the story starts , he asked if I can help him with this matter because he is student and in need of a car and also mentioned that his stepfather is a mechanic and his uncle works in a smog shop , I agreed and asked him to take the car to his father and his uncle to check the car and if it is a suitable vehicle for him , next day he returns and told me that everything is good and his father and uncle are ok with this purchase and the only thing that the car needs is a throttle position sensor which will cost $125.00 and $20.00 labor , I offered him my help again , I bought the part from WPD for $41.36 and asked him to install it and smog the car and I will give him the credit because he needed the car the same day , on Oct 28 he walks to my office and asks me to help him with financing or better say in house financing because of his poor credit no bank would finance him and again just because of him being student I accepted to do that, we agreed on $1500 down then and a trade in value (kia s[redacted]) of $800 , the he only had $1400 , at the end total of $2200.00 downpayment and 17 payments of $207.99 , he signed all documents and agreed to smog the car with his uncle and bring us the smog certificate to complete DMV registration , 2 days later he called me and saying the check engine light is on and his stepfather thinks its a sensor and needs tune up , I explained him that we had an agreement and that he checked the vehicle before he bought it but again I felt responsible to help an student and my customer , I spent over $200 to change the O2 sensor and tune up (changed spark plugs , filter , oil change) and again he was happy , 2 days later he calls again and complaining about the same issue and that his uncle is certain that the problem is because of catalytic converter and it will cost him almost $1200.00 , I called our part stores and found out the cost is around $400, I explained to Mr [redacted]s that the only reason I gave him the car the first day was because of him being so anxious to buy the car and assured me of getting the smog certificate the following day , and also let him know that I really did him a favor as far as financing him , but again I offered him my help , I offered him that I will fix it and in return I will add $300 to his loan amount , he agreed and promised to bring the vehicle back on Monday , he did not contact me , I left San Diego for an emergency matter , he called my office couple of times and the notify him of my absence , during this time I tried to call him from my cell phone but ,as you can try , he did not answer and the answering machine is not set and you can not leave any message , I tried emails also did not work , I want to clear this that we never smog this vehicle and Mr [redacted]s assured me of smog if I could deliver the car to him and help him with financing situation , you can easily check the smog history in DMV website and you will find out his accusations are baseless , I can offer him 2 options , 1- to contact me or return my calls then we can move forward to fix the car or 2-return the vehicle and we can agree on a cancellation of this contract , for any question please call me at [redacted]

Review: I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tundra on November 20, 2014 from Point Loma Pre-Owned. The Car Fax didn't show any accidents, however the Auto check report showed an accident which significantly decreases the value of this vehicle. Another, more concerning issue is that I recently went to sell the vehicle and it wont pass smog. The check engine light comes on and then turns off. The smog station said the light must have been tampered with because there are a few computer codes. It is not possible for this vehicle to pass smog due to these computer errors as well as the fact someone replaced the Catalytic converters with aftermarket ones which are not legal in California. The smog station estimated the price of these Catalytic converters at over $3000.Desired Settlement: I would like to either return the vehicle (I have put very few miles on it) or have Point Loma Pre-Owned fix the problem and smog the truck. Returning it would be my number one choice though because of the accident which was not disclosed. It lowers the value of the vehicle a lot.
