Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.February 21, 2018 Response to [redacted] Chiropractic on the Revdex.com Complaint ID [redacted] I made an appointment and met with Dr. [redacted] and her accounting manager, Angela, on February 21, 2018. We discussed the three parts of the bill from 08/18/17, and it was explained to me that the physical exam was necessary in order for Dr. [redacted] to provide treatment. Again, my problem with this charge was that I was told before the procedure that day that if Medicare did not cover a particular procedure, I would not be charged. We discussed the issue that I had a misunderstanding of that statement, and that the statement only applied to a particular procedure that involved a reading taken from my hand placed into a machine. However, at the time of the appointment, I did not at all understand that this was the only procedure that was being referred to in Dr. [redacted] and her assistant’s statements to me at that time. So I took responsibility for that misunderstanding and agreed to pay the $120.00 for the procedure. The second part of the bill was for the spinal adjustment, which I had no dispute with, so I readily agreed to pay that part of the bill which was $20.00. The third part of the bill was for an X-ray of my neck. At the time of the appointment, I stated to Dr. [redacted] that I did not feel that X-ray was necessary, as I had furnished her with a CD of results and images of recent extensive testing completed by Aspirus Spine and Neuro Clinic, as ordered by my physician, Dr. [redacted] of the Aspirus Hospital Spine and Neurosurgery Department, Wausau, WI. These tests included multiple X-rays of my spine, including movement X-rays and extensive MRI images of my spine and neck. These were recent tests performed one to two months before my appointment in preparation for possible back surgery. I was not having neck pain at the time of Dr. [redacted]’s testing, nor was I having neck pain at the time of my initial visit to Dr. [redacted]. At our meeting on February 21, 2018, Dr. [redacted] stated that on that CD there was mention of chronic neck pain reported by me; however, I have never had chronic neck pain and was not being treated for that by Dr. [redacted]. I also had not complained of neck pain during my initial examination by Dr. [redacted], but she had stated that sometimes lower back pain and sciatic nerve pain could be caused by a problem in the neck area. For that reason she recommended an X-ray of my neck be taken. Again, with the information that I would not be charged for procedures not covered by Medicare, I agreed to the X-ray, even though I still felt it was unnecessary or Dr. [redacted] would have taken it. It should be noted again, as previously stated in my correspondence with [redacted] Chiropractic, that I was well-aware of what Medicare (and hence my Medicare Advantage Plan, Humana Gold) covered for chiropractic services, which is the adjustments to the spine only. Dr. [redacted] was also aware of this as she had provided me with a highlighted copy of that Medicare information. However, during our February 21st conference, she and the accounting representative stated that it was not possible for them to know what would be covered as they were not allowed access to that information. This is one part of their explanation I do not understand. Also, I was informed by Angela of the [redacted] Chiropractic accounting department that it was illegal for them to take this charge off my bill due to their contract with Humana. I did check with Humana earlier, and was told that this was not the case. Dr. [redacted] stated that if they removed this charge from my bill, it would set a precedent, and that they would then have to remove it from all Medicare patients’ bills. I did not agree that this would make it my responsibility to pay for a test I did not need and did not request. Therefore, I do not agree to pay for the X-ray of my neck, which was not my issue in deciding to pursue treatment with a chiropractor. My issue was sciatic nerve pain in my hip area caused by the degeneration of my lower spine. I explained all of this to Dr. [redacted] during our face-to-face meeting which she kindly agreed to schedule after receive notification from the Revdex.com of my complaint. Before that, I had not received any response from her to my issues, but only responses from her billing department, which was not able to address my concerns. I did pay [redacted] Chiropractic $140.00 on the date of our meeting, February 21, 2018, and did inform them that I would not be paying for the neck X-ray ($125.00.) I was told by [redacted] Chiropractic that this amount would be turned over to their collection agency. I know it would be much easier just to pay the disputed charge, but I feel the principal at stake here is more important. This has been a time consuming and frustrating process, but I do want to include that [redacted] Chiropractic employees were polite and respectful to me during this process. [redacted]
