On October 23, we awoke to a home that had been destroyed by water that had leaked - or gushed - from a small plastic hose with compression fittings underneath our kitchen sink that had somehow come apart during the night We immediately called USAA and within an hour there were half a dozen workers from Poplin Construction at our homeThey vacuumed inches of water out of our living room as well as removing water from the rest of the house - and began mitigating the damage that the water had done Soon afterwards we met [redacted] - the owner of Poplin Construction - as we had to decide who to hire to do the reconstruction of our home We were very impressed with Mr [redacted] and since he had initially been hired by USAA we decided to have him do the reconstruction as well Mr [redacted] and Poplin Construction have been just fantasticThe work that they did in our home has been wonderfulThey always showed up on time, did great work while they were here and cleaned up at the end of the dayBecause of the severity of our damage the repairs took months but Mr [redacted] was always there giving us excellent advice and making us feel as if he wanted the best for us Mr [redacted] is something of an anomaly in today's worldHis word is his bond and when he promises something he means it and does itThis is not to say there were no minor glitches - to be expected in a job this size - but Mr [redacted] always went above and beyond to make sure the outcome was excellent I admit to having a type A personality (I am an Orthopedic Surgeon and I guess it is part of my being) but Mr [redacted] made this as atraumatic as it could possibly have been How many people do you know who still feel this way about their contractor six months after a flood? After getting all the reconstruction permits and materials, the beautiful home that we dreamed of soon became a reality through the hard work, energy, and professionalism of the Poplin employees and their outstanding sub-contractors Everyone associated with his company are true craftsmen in their trades Their work was always excellent and they were a pleasure to work with
Of particular note was Poplin's superb care and handling of our personal property/household goods that needed to be evacuated from the home, refurbished, stored in climate controlled facilities, and returned to our home when the reconstruction work was completed The care of our household goods was the absolute best I've experienced in over years of moving with the military and with a major defense industry company

I have worked w/a variety of contractors over the last 25 years in 5 different states and by far Poplin Construction was the best. Communication was very important and we had a primary point of contact for the communications and that helped to keep things more organized then when I have worked w/other contractors in the past. Throughout the project they made very thoughtful suggestions for how to get the best result when we were facing unexpected challenges. They were very honest and fair in their dealings for the entire process. The cost they quoted in the beginning was very accurate for what we agreed to do at that time. We like the work so well, that we choose to expand the project 3-4 different times and added on cost for those as separate âchange ordersâ. The workers themselves were very polite and eager to please. Toward the end of the main phase of the 1100 sq ft addition we learned that we were going to be having a family member who is in the military come for an unexpected visit between international deployments. [redacted]âs team and even his subs worked many extra hours even on the weekend to make sure the house would be put back together in time for the âhomecomingâ. [redacted] helped us to work out options that would allow us to have an even better result than we thought possible.

This company was used by my insurance company to fix a door that had been kicked in during a burglary at my parents home. They came and took measurements for the door the day after the event but my parents were not given any information about the types of doors that could be used, when they would hear something or how the process worked. The insurance company approved the estimate a day later but we heard nothing from the contractor. After my dad left two phone calls, he received a message stating the contractor was on vacation. When the contractor returned, we still heard nothing for three more days. At this point, the contractor was fired for failure to communicate with anyone.
