Portland Painting & Restoration Inc Reviews (1)

The client called us about some issues and we were in the process of scheduling an inspection/warranty to see whats going on. A week or so into the conversation she sends us an ultimatum for 1/2 refund on the paint job, of which is absolutely unreasonable especially since we haven't seen the...

issues. This client also threatened us that she would post bad reviews and make a complaint with the Revdex.com if we didn't give her demanded refund amount back ? Our lawyer will have to deal with such threats, we will certainly not be refunding 1/2 of the paint job and do not take lightly to blackmail.
As for the project: It was a 100yr old house with 100yrs of paint on it and obvious chronic failure(down to the initial raw wood) meaning sub layers are failing. I always imply that a building like this should be fully stripped free of paint to a sound substrate to guarantee performance. She noted she couldn't afford this and needed an economical route. I suggested a solid prime coat of slow dry penetrating and surface tension reducing oil primer, this is another route to minimize the stress of the new drying finish coats. This allows the paint to pull on the prime coat verses the weak old substrates of which are failing. This route doesn't guarantee, but helps with the minimizing of the failing. You may get a few bubbles, but not a whole wall, etc... These old substrates are sensitive and the stress of fresh paint or heat from a newly introduced dark color can stress out such substrates to fail. So, what probably happened is a few areas got stressed out from the paint job and popped off the substrate, this was probably caused during the paint job and we know this. As much as we don't cover bubbles(no painter does) because we can't identify such weak substrate driven failure, we still do so the year after a paint job and explain that those were most likely from the paint job.
So in closing, the client didn't take the one option on the contract that I noted "This is my best advice for your sensitive substrates to help guarantee performance", has a few issues but wont schedule a warranty and is Justifying this blackmail attempt with her frustrations. I"m not taking away her frustrations as the job obviously had a few issues, but we always stand by our word and performed every bit of the final punch lists to ensure satisfaction. Plus the house looks amazing in comparison to when we first arrived.
She has a 4 year warranty that we will honor, if she calls.
