The owner works hard and is always up front and honest. They always show me what is broken and take the time to explain the ins and outs of fixing my vehicle. They strive hard to always inform and get me the best deals for my money. Would never take my vehicle anywhere else. I can trust things will be fixed in a timely and efficiant manor.

Review: My last in store visit involved a return after replacing both axles and seals on my Rav4. This was after the initial visit and repair of just the seal was ineffective in November 2013. During this visit in early December 2013, I was working with [redacted] and [redacted] who were in the store that Saturday morning. [redacted] was the technician who did the second repair on the Rav4, the repair that included replacing both rear axles after the first misdiagnosis. During the visit, [redacted] confirmed the right rear axle was indeed still leaking while [redacted] looked up possible issues online. This is where [redacted] advised of a potential recall on the differential and attempted contact with [redacted] without success. Instead of having me wait while he attempted to contact them, [redacted] suggested that I leave and he would follow up with me via phone call once he confirmed with [redacted].

It was about 2 hours later I received a call back from [redacted] and he advised he spoke with [redacted] and they suggested I bring the vehicle in for review and repair in regards to the recall. Following the holidays, I went to [redacted] on 1/4/2014 and discussed the recall. I was basically laughed at while I was advised there was no recall and all they have to do is type in the VIN# in their system and it pulls up all recalls. There was nothing regarding the rear differential or axles on a recall. The vehicle did have two outstanding recalls, one for a rear suspension arm that was a previous recall that would require additional review in the future and a second with the brake override that had an active solution.

Since I was already there, I went ahead and had the recall for the brake override completed. [redacted]'s technicians also said they would look at the leak for me while they had the vehicle back there. It was a few hours later I was contacted back to discuss the leak. I was asked if I had both axles replaced and I advised yes. From there the technician started to lecture me on using used parts for repairs even though they are cheaper. I stopped him and advised I had both axles replaced with new ones from a local repair shop and paid the same price for both. To my shock he advised me that the right rear axle installed on my car was an aftermarket used rear axle (or remanufactured some places call it). Not only was it used, it was an incomplete axle assembly, missing the dust cover that helps keeps contaminates out of the differential. [redacted] had quotes for repairs in place and then told me that this was inappropriate and sent me back to the initial repair shop to fix it. They gave me a statement in writing in regards to the part being used and incomplete.

When I authorized the repair of the axles, I was quoted and told I would receive 2 new rear axles, left and right. I even paid the same price for both parts. I am very angry and disappointed that I was given a used right rear axle when this wasn't what I authorized, was told, or even paid for. And the axle isn't even a complete used part, missing a piece that can cause damage to the differential. And the right rear axle is the only one leaking...not a shock considering the left is a new part!!

I attempted my 1st contact to discuss this major issue with [redacted] (the owner/manager) on 1/6/2014 and left a message with [redacted] and got a promised call back ASAP from [redacted]. Just an FYI...his reaction to me questioning why I was sent to [redacted] left me to believe it was never a confirmed recall as I was told. I waited one full week for a call back without anything. My second contact attempt was 1/13/2014 at 1pm in which [redacted] answered the phone, told me he was checking someone in, and would call me right back. That call back happened the next day at 11am on 1/14. I returned [redacted]'s call as soon as I was available at 1pm the same today. Again [redacted] answered the phone, told me this time he was on the other line and would call me right back. I followed up with two email attempts to the business with my complaint and suggested resolutions, one the night of 1/14 after no return call and another on 1/29/14. I also left a voicemail at the business on 1/29 advising that I haven't been contacted and that I was sending another email. As of 2/4/2014, still no communication via email or phone with me regarding this issue.

From the initial misdiagnosis, to the repair with used parts instead of the discussed new parts, and now the inability to get a call back to discuss the issue, this is all very inappropriate business behavior and not what I have experienced with other Meineke stores in the past. I have made every attempt to make contact, left reasonable timeframes for response and now, 3 months later from my initial visit, I am reaching out to the Revdex.com for help.Desired Settlement: Due to the lack of response and unprofessional behavior described in the complaint, I am requesting a refund of the cost associated with the failure to repair my axle seal leak and the unacceptable part used in the right rear axle replacement. Here is the breakdown of the refund request:

$135.00 for the right rear axle that was a incomplete used part when I was quoted a new axle replacement

$24.15 for the right rear axle seal that was never properly repaired

$39.95 for the differential service that was compromised by the incomplete right rear axle

$235.50 for 2.5 hours of labor charged for the axle seal replacement and axle installation. This is 1/2 of the total labor charged as it is for the right side only.

Total request refund for settlement of the dispute: $434.60 plus applicable state tax. Delivered as credit toward the credit card used for purchase, cashiers check or cash.

Review: I went in to have a brake line flared on one end. I asked the representative how much it would cost, he said he would look at it. Took it in the back of the shop and I asked to accompany him, he declined for insurance reasons. He came out ten minutes later having done the work and called his manager to determine price, it was either ten dollars cash or 45 dollars for a card transaction. Had I known the price would have been so high I would have declined and had a friend do it later that week. They took my piece, performed the work without providing a price when asked and then charging me something I wasn't comfortable paying. I was explicit I wanted to find out the price, having asked twice, once over the phone and then when I got there.Desired Settlement: Refund of money of at least half

Response:

[redacted],

In response to said complaint, we have a half an hour minimum labor charge for all transactions, and were trying to be fair with the customer by charging him less than that.($47.10)

Thank you for your time.

Response:

The shop rate wasn't the concern and being "fair" with the customer by lowering the rate doesn't apply here. My issue is I came into the business with my brake line, I asked how much it would cost to do it, the tech took it and went into the shop where I couldn't follow and did the work, I was led to believe he was just going to assess it and see if he had the flare kit to do it. Had I been able to see what he was doing I would have stopped him before he started if he wasn't able to give me an estimate.

Review: I took the car in for service regarding the starter as well as some other issues. Approximately 5 hours later I drove out. They said it was all good. The next day, it was again having problems. Stalled in the middle of intersections, difficulty starting again, etc. Again they said it was all fixed, no more problems. I drove to a nearby business, appx a mile away. When I returned to the car, it again wouldn't start. They towed it back to the shop and said it was a fuel pump problem. They replaced it,(another new charge) and again told me it was fine. I took the car home and it was ok for a day or two and when I next attempted the start the car, it was out of gas. The fuel filter they installed, I guess incorrectly, had ruptured and drained half a tank of fuel all over the driveway! Again, they said to have it towed back to the shop and they would look at it again. I had it repaired by another mechanic.Desired Settlement: I would be willing to meet them part way, the brakes they repaired seem to be working okay now as does the starter. But attempts to repair that many times and still be without a reliable vehicle? They wanted me to pay for the towing but I declined. Kept telling me that if I would just get it there they would look at it again. Each time, they told me it was a parts issue. That many defective? Fuel pump, starter, catalytic converter, etc. and for this I was charged over $2000.00. Sorry guys.

Response:

To whom this may concern,

This vehicle had many issue from the start,it first arrived at our facility, and the customer stated she needed a starter, so we replaced it at the customers request. Also the battery tested bad, we repaired brakes as well. (Safety concern). She called in later having starting issues, and we found out that her fuel pressure was low, we recommended a fuel pump and filter, she stated that she had had the filter replaced at [redacted]. So we replaced the pump, and it came back again, with low fuel pressure, at that time we replaced the filter, and discounted the labor for her. She than called and said she had gas leaking in her, driveway,we asked her if she could tow it in and she said she could not due to cost, we than called a tow truck to bring it to our facility to address her concern, when the tow truck arrived to bring it to us, she decided to take it somewhere else to fix it. We notified her that if it was an issue relating to our repair it would be covered under warranty, if repairs were made at our facility,or any other Meineke, and that taking it to another competitor would void all warranty work. She said don't worry about it.
