Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:Two main incidents occurred which have both not been remedied and are not explained in the business' response.First: I acknowledge that on Tuesday, July 21 at 4 pm that I was no longer interested in the rental unit (based on the discrepancy between the description online and the condition of the actual unit, which is a separate issue itself).  However, almost 24 hours later, I was contacted by the rental agency's screening company inquiring about my rental application.  I asked why they were running my application after I told Onyx/Pounder Realty I was no longer interested, and they had no notification I had withdrawn.  Onyx/Pound Realty had ample time to notify the screening company not to run my application.  And to note, this is not the basis for my complaint as I knew I would forfeit my $50 screening fee if I did not want to take the unit. However, what is concerning is the timeline.  My application could have been taken out of the pile to be screened to avoid any credit inquiries that would affect my credit score.  Also, the simple fact that there was no communication between Onyx/Pounder Realty and their screening company is a concern.  Regarding this first incident, I am willing to forfeit my $50 screening fee, but I would like the Revdex.com to acknowledge poor business practices on the part of this rental agency.  In addition, I have attached my email correspondence with Sonja A[redacted], Office Manager of Onyx/Pounder Realty, who was quite rude with me in her tone of dialogue.Second: This is the more concerning issue.  Ms. A[redacted] asked that I submit a co-signer's application to compensate for the required income I did not have in order to rent the unit.  My mom was the co-signer and submitted her application materials, along with a $50 application fee, at the same time I submitted mine.  If Ms. A[redacted] knew on 7/21 that I was no longer interested in the unit, why would she again also submit my co-signer's application?  I then came to find out that my application was rejected due to the income to rent ratio. Why then would my co-signer need to have submitted her application, along with the fee?  Subsequently, my co-signer received a letter stating her application was rejected.  On the response form, the box next to "credit" was checked, but also had the letters "N/A" written beside it.  This is very unclear and came with no explanation.  I would also like to add that my co-signer has a credit score of 780, has no unpaid debts, and owns two homes outright.  Thus, there is no justification that her credit would be a factor in denial.  Onyx/Pounder Realty does not state anywhere on their website what their credit requirement is, and I would assume a credit score of 780 is not an insufficient score.  Again, I am not sure the proper steps were taken in the screening process.I am disappointed in how defensive Ms. A[redacted] was in her email correspondence, unwilling to work with me.  I even offered to compromise and forfeit my $50, but have my co-signer's $50 fee refunded.  I believe this is a fair compromise that most reasonable companies would accept.  I was also told by Ms. A[redacted] that if I had a problem with the credit check that I am to contact their screening company.  But it is up to the rental agency to establish what the credit requirements are for acceptance, and this is what I have not been able to resolve with Onyx/Pounder Realty.  This is why I believe they took my co-signer's $50 fee without due process and a refund is a reasonable request. With so many property management companies in the Portland metro from which to choose, I had hoped Onyx/Pounder Realty would want to stand out from their competitors and retain happy renters.  From my negative experience with this company, I hope the Revdex.com can facilitate a solution so other potential renters do not have to go through this like I did.  Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely,[redacted]

At Onyx Management group it our goal to provide fair, honest and consistent customer service at all times. We regret that Ms. [redacted] feels that she did not receive this standard in her situation.  We took every effortover multiple email and telephone conversations with Ms. [redacted] to...

explain ourapplication process. We exchanged multiple emails before the applications weresubmitted to our third party screening company and it was clearly stated that once theapplications are submitted they are no longer refundable.  At Ms. [redacted] instruction we submitted bothapplications on Monday 7/20/15 and at that point they became nonrefundable. Ms.[redacted] verbally withdrew her interest in the apartment at 4:00pm on 7/21/15 andagain it was communicated to her that the application fees were nonrefundableat that point.  Ms. [redacted] also asserts that we did not submit the second application.  This claim is without merit.  As an additional courtesy we have even providedMs. [redacted] with the confirmation of receipt from our screening company for bothapplications. This confirmation was sent/received on 7/20/15.  Both applicants were also mailed theinformational letter provided by our screening company explain the results ofboth screenings as well as their rights as applicants.
