Powell Bryant General Construction, INC

Review: We hired Mr. Bryant Powell to replace our fire place, build a custom mantel and add decorative stonework around the mantle and hearth. He came to our home and told us the job would take one week to complete. We hired Mr. Powell and he sent his crew to being work on May 27, 2014. Day one went well, the mantle was built by his carpenter Kevin. The mason he hired on the job - who I later found out was uninsured and recently out of prision. I knew the mason from prior dealings, and voiced my concern to Mr. Powell. He offered to take the mason off of the job if I was not comfortable but assured me he did excellent work and the relationship would be professional. I agreed to this through a series of text messages with Mr. Powell and told him I was fine with the Mason working as long as Mr. Powell was managing the project. On Day 2, the Mason arrived on time but unprepared on a motorcycle. When he pulled up I was wondering where he kept his tools. He began asking my husband if he could use his ladder, shop vaccum, buckets,..etc. He did not work a full day and left at 1pm. On On Day 3, the Mason arrived late (agreed start time was 7:30am) and he arrived at 9am. He took a 2 hour lunch break at noon, came back to the job site and told us that he forgot his pointing tools and cannot finish the job today. He left at 2:15pm. Mr. Powell then told us that we needed to talk about time and materials and how we want to be billed for the extra time. My husband told Mr. Powell that we were not going to be paying for extra time since his mason only works half days and does not come prepared. Mr. Powell agreed that this was fair and we would not have to pay.On Day 4 the Mason came prepared in an SUV and confronted me about telling Mr. Powell that he left early. It made me very uncomfortable in my home, as I was alone with him. He was very angry, and started spouting off about how Mr. Powell did not give him anyone to help with clean up and that is why this project will not be done on time. He then told meDesired Settlement: I would like a full refund #3800 . The job is not finished correctly, and I will now need to pay someone to fix the issue professionally. The stress and time wasted on this project is very upsetting. To not have a finished product after almost 2 months is distressing. Bryant Powell told me that he did not know how to fix grouting via text messages (which I have saved) and I am not comfortable with his Mason at this point - he has been nothing but a problem from day 1.
