Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/03/15) */
Contact Name and Title: [redacted] President

Contact Email: [redacted]@firemaster.com
Fire Master has stood behind the sale of the unit sold to Diamond City by taking care of some operational issues that did arise...

however the issue in this complaint was not authorized for warranty due to misuse / abuse of the vehicle which the Chief admitted to me that while he was driving the vehicle it overheated. The continued operation of the apparatus while running hot is what caused the head gasket failure. I personally presented the invoice for the cost only of the repairs to [redacted] and the Chief in our facility and they did pay the repair.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2016/03/18) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The firetruck was NOT abused. The only people who drove the truck with a blown head gasket were the repair people taking it to Springfield for repair. Mr. [redacted] is taking advantage of the fact that Chief Spinks had been arrested and he knows that we do not have his testimony to the facts. I am not aware of anybody driving the truck while in an overheated condition.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 13, 2016/03/21) */
After the Chief called me to tell me about the truck overheating I sent a service tech down to nurse the vehicle from the station back to Springfield but when he tried to start the engine it would not start. After exploring several scenarios as to why the truck was not starting and still unable to get it running we decided to call for a tow truck to bring it in to Springfield.
My service tech continued to attempt to get the unit running and was finally successful so we canceled the tow truck and he carefully watched the temperature gauge so as not to overheat the engine.
We later discovered the reason the vehicle was difficult to start at the fire station at time of pick up was due to the head gasket failure which caused water to run into the engine cylinders which created a hydraulically locked engine by the water in the cylinders. The starting issue was resolved at the time of pick up by rotating the engine backwards which relieved the pressure.
So after refilling the radiator with coolant the vehicle was driven into Springfield without issue.
So the head gasket failure was present at the time of pick up at the fire station.
After examining the radiator flow we made the necessary radiator repairs under warranty but the overheating was caused by improper operation of the vehicle.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 15, 2016/03/24) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I was standing next to Chief [redacted] when made the call about the truck "blowing" liquid. [redacted]'s first question was "did it overheat?" Chief [redacted] asked the driver if the truck had overheated and his response was "no". Chief [redacted] then told [redacted] that the truck had not overheated. BY their own admission, they drove the truck to Springfield with a blown head gasket. If [redacted] can get his story about the overheating straight, maybe we can resolve this. First he told me that Chief [redacted] had "test driven" the truck in Springfield and brought it back "hot". Then, later, he told me that Chief Spinks had called him on the phone and reported that he had overheated the truck. Neither of those stories are true as the truck was never overheated.
