I discovered Powerhouse after a miserable experience working with a local restoration company after a floodJack, [redacted] and the rest of the crew were a pleasure to work with and helped make a difficult time as easy as possibleCommunication was top -notchVery responsive and quick to answer any questions and address any concernsWork was top notchCrews were clean and very hard workingI was impressed, as were my neighborsI would hire Powerhouse Green Construction again in a heartbeat, and I would recommend them to any one considering work on their house Less

This was by far the most difficult customer I have had in my
entire careerWith that in mind I did everything possible to accommodate his
unobtainable expectationHis extreme self-admitted OCD and cleanliness was so
unreasonable I couldn’t keep up, but I tried with pretty good success until the
very endAt one point he invited his neighbor over and his neighbor said,
“it’s the cleanest job site I have ever seen”In one email I stated that “your
place looks immaculate” and he agreed but said it had nothing to do with meThis
complaint is a vindictive attempt to get back at me for firing them as a
customerThese people were
not left high and dryThey have plenty on monies from the balance owed to
complete the minor punch listPlease go to other reporting agencies and see
all the happy customers from years pastBelow are a few examples of my
experience
Example#1: this house is on a raised foundation and under
the house is dirtEveryday he came by the job site while in rough construction
and vacuumed the dirt under the house
Example#2: after installing the vent in the garage the
installers cut a little to much of the plaster in the garage and ended up unknowingly
cutting two 3” slits in their sons bedroomWhen they got home around 7:30pm he
called me completely outraged hammering me for 30+min stating that his son
couldn’t sleep in his room because the place was such a messAnd that I needed
to get someone out that night to clean their entire house or get them a hotel
room for the nightHe sent me pictures and if you looked really close you can
see a little dust on his pillow and on his black TV, which shows a little more
There was definitely some dust, of course I apologized for the unintentional
incident and I paid to have his house professionally cleaned for the 3rd
timeWe decided to use their housekeeper because my cleaner was not able to
come out fast enough
Example#3: we added a small back splash to the guest bath
and agreed it was an upchargeHe called my tile guy, found out my tile guy did
it at no cost and refused to include it in the final bill
Example#4: we added a 3rd window in his garage,
agreed it would be an upcharge and he refuses to include it in the final bill
because “he’s not sure how much I paid for the window so he’s not paying for
it”
(These examples are
not exaggerations)
We always do a clean up each day and a comprehensive clean
up at the end of the project by a professional cleaning crewWe don’t clean
the project area alone we have the Pro cleaning crew clean the entire house,
even if the other areas were not affected by the construction
The $remaining balance he is referring to was just from
the original agreementThere was about $of extras that we agreed would be
at an additional cost (some of which I did at my cost to help this customer) and
about $of extras that I threw in as a courtesyOne of which was adding a
vent in the now finished garageI informed him that to do it the right way he
needed a heat load calculation, vents (not 1) and possibly a return air vent
to make it heat properlyHe informed me that he’s not concerned about heating
it properly he just wanted a little heat in garageI agreed to do it at no
charge
Everything was ok until I fired them as a customer (this was
a first for me)He had the original HVAC installer come in and they said it
would cost $to bring everything in the attic up to codeKeep in mind that
I didn’t touch the heater or move itI only moved the return air grill to the
ceiling, moved the attic access and added an additional vent to the garage Based on the size of his house a typical HVAC
Co would be able to re-duct the entire house for that priceAccording to the
customer I am responsible for doing all this work because I tapped into one of the
duct lines to get heat into garage at no costWhen I asked him why the
original HVAC Company didn’t install everything to code he had no good answer
but he still wants me to pay for itThe only thing that was over looked on my
part was the catwalk, which is a piece of plywood in the attic to walk onA
piece of plywood costs about $and about hour to install. I think the remained balance of $would
cover that
The only reason I fired him as a customer is because his
behavior became very volatile towards the end of the projectEven taking
personal shots about an illness that I take medication for, stating “did you
take your medication today”? Then finding out he made a side deal with one of
my workers and paid them cash without my knowledge! Constantly accusing me of
lying and then finding out otherwiseAs long as I agreed with him everything
was good but any disagreement and watch out! He had many outbursts over the
project and apologized each time admitting he had a problem with anger and that
it ran in the familyWhen I was sitting at the table with both of them and I
let them know I was no longer able to help them The Mrsput her head in her
hand and said “O *** you scared away another contractor”Every single one
of my sub contractors refuses to work with him anymoreOne of my painters quit
working for me all together stating “because of this customer I will no longer
paint for you any more”The 2nd painter refused to go back and was
afraid I would no longer give him workHe was relieved when I explained the
situationThe concrete refinishing company that the customer hired directly
quit and didn’t even collect the other half of what he was owedAre we seeing
a pattern?
Now to his claim of a %refund for the duct work and other
miscwork that needs to be doneHe finally agreed that I was not %responsible
for the ductworkHere is what I copied from an email stating this in his own
words “Along
the lines of being fair, I do not believe that you should be 100% responsible
for what the HVAC is going to charge us”He finally admitted this after hammering me on the phone and
email for weeksLets say I’m %responsible for the ductworkAccording to
his accounting they still have a $balance to button up any loose endsBased
off of what I know he owes they have a $balance to finish up any loose
endsThe amount of work that needs to be done is less than $I didn’t
collect the balance knowing there were still a few small things that needed to
be finishedI informed them that even if there were additional funds left over
I would forgo any balance to get away from this customer
I did
everything possible to service this customer to the best of my abilityI did
small things like giving him a HEPA filter for his son’s room because he is
sensitive to dustThrowing in extras at no cost to stay within the budget
Accommodating any and all requests no matter how outrageousI paid out $5,
more than what they paid me to try to keep them happy as a customerI paid to
have their house cleaned several timesI’m not sure what else I can do! It’s
really hard to see a customer that I tried so hard to please complainI have
had challenging customers in the past and everyone was happy at the endThis
is construction, there will be hiccups and I always take full responsibility
for anything I did and even some things that were not my doing. But there comes a point where it’s blatantly
obvious they are trying to take advantageAs I look back on the entire process
it almost seems like they do this on purpose to try and get out of paying for
thingsThis is my first complaint in years in business, which kills me but I
guess that’s not to bad
