PowerWindowFix.Com Reviews (1)

I found this company while searching the internet for a power window regulator / motor for my daughters 2000 Toyota Solara. Unfortunately I did not think to look at reviews BEFORE I contacted them. The drivers window in the vehicle would intermittently stop stop going up / down. Knowing it would eventually fail entirely I found powerwindowfix.com on the web and asked them for an estimate. We received an email from [redacted] He said my issue was a window motor and the cost to repair it would be $125. We arranged for him to come to my house on 5/6 to do the repair. He arrived as scheduled, confirmed that it was the window motor which was bad, and that the cost would be $125 as per the estimate. [redacted] completed the repair in a timely manner. He then presented me with an invoice for $150 saying he'd had to replace a gear in the motor addition to repairing the motor. My BS flag went up but I confirmed the window was working so I paid him the $150 cash, got a receipt and he went on his way. On 5/14 my daughter called me and said she was rolling down the window and it made a clunk and was now loose in it's track. You could hear the motor run but it was not moving the window. I called Elan and he told me it was the regulator which was bad and since he'd repaired the motor previously there would be an additional charge to fix the regulator. I asked how he knew it was the regulator without looking and he told me it was from experience. He said he'd give me a break and only charge me $75 versus his usual $125 to do the repair. I had a bad feeling but made an appointment for the following day. When he failed to show as scheduled or call me I decided to remove the door panel myself and look into the issue. The regulator appeared to be fine (and it was) so I removed the regulator / motor so I could figure out what the problem was. While taking it out I noticed one of three nuts which hold the motor to the door was missing. I found it inside the bottom of the door and was able to remove it with a magnet on a stick. Once I had the regulator out I notice a cap falling off the back of the motor. I removed the cap and found the drive gear had moved up on the shaft. There was a snap ring stuck to the gear (by that sticky grease used inside the motor) which should have held the gear on the shaft. The snap ring was deformed from someone's attempt to put it on the shaft as it was both too small (in diameter) and to thick to fit in the slot on the shaft. As a side note I found another deformed snap ring on the floor of the car (same side as the window). Wonder where that came from? I went to a local hardware store, purchased a snap ring of the proper size, reassembled everything and the window is now performing as it should. That said after seeing the shoddy work (missing nut, wrong deformed snap ring, loose motor cap) I don't really trust the motor repair so I'll be picking up another motor / regulator either new or from a junkyard and replacing it. When I contacted [redacted] about what I'd found he refused any refund at all and denied using any wrong parts or not having put it together properly . I then googled powerwindowfix.com reviews and found many many complaints, all unsatisfied, very similar to mine on various sites (including the Broward Revdex.com) Based on the changing price (upcharge), shoddy workmanship, and poor warranty support I observed my recommendation would be to steer clear of this company.
