When the owner first towed her car to me, we started it right away and noticed the engine knocking. Immediately I told her the engine was no good. I gave her a rough idea on cost to repair $3000. Keep in mind, there was no work order written up or any diagnostic charge applied. It was an obvious...

problem. She had me talk to her father and explain the situation, his words were " the car is not worth fixing because there wasn't much value to it." Because she did not want it repaired, her option was to tow it out of my parking lot. She in turn really did not want the car, so I offered to sell it for her on my own personal time. At that time, market value for that car was between $1900-$2500 in good running condition. Her car has several major issues which devalues it. First, the engine was no good, second the vehicle was missing all the smog equipment which made it illegal here in California and third, it had out of state registration (Florida.) So when you add it all up, it would cost about $4000-$4500 to put this car back on the road in California. So really, how much is this car worth? Not to mention the paint on this car was all faded (yellow car.) To me personally, it is only worth $500 in this condition. If I remember correctly she was hoping to get $1500 which I said I'll try. I posted it on Craigslist and had no response whatsoever. People only wanted parts off the car because it wasn't worth the asking price. So finally, I had someone come over to buy some used parts that I was selling and he noticed the car. This occurred on a Saturday on my day off, so I told him about the car and I mentioned I liked to keep the transmission. He didn't mind it because it was a great father and son project. So I told [redacted] I got someone interested in the car for $950. She agreed to it, otherwise she wouldn't have taken the money. So as soon as he wrote me a check for the deposit I told him when he can pick it up after I removed the transmission. So technically, the car belonged to the new owner and not her when the transmission was removed. I don't understand, she got what she wanted, and he got what he wanted. How much do you think that transmission is worth? When we pulled it out, the fluid was dirty. The car came all the way from Florida and I believe the transmission was over 10 years old. Parts do depreciate in value from time and use. Anyway, I offered the transmission back to both her or the new owner of the vehicle if either one of them wants it. Come to find out, the transmission was no good. That's why I didn't want it. (making noise and slipping) If she wants the additional money for the transmission she can sell it herself. To me, it has no value. The new owners issue, is that he can't register the vehicle without her signature. She refused because of this transmission issue. I could not transfer release of liability over because California has no registration of this vehicle in their system, it is registered in Florida. After the sale, I told her I have all his info and she needs to come pick it up and help transfer the title over. For the past year, she has called twice and never picked up the paperwork. I first met her back in 2013, when she was asking about finding all the missing smog equipment for this vehicle so she could get it registered here in California. I told her her car was too old and parts weren't available. For a year and a half, she's been taking her chance driving it here in California without California plates. Even the Florida plates had been expired for a long time so she's been super lucky and not getting pulled over. This vehicle was sold over a year ago and she is just now addressing the issue. I've already asked her twice to come down and resolve this, She never showed. Twice she rudely hung up the phone on me, I don't understand why. I do have proof and documentation as to this sale was on a personal basis and no involvement of my business. Also proof as to how difficult she was to the buyer when he wanted to resolve this issue. To tell how I am as a business owner, your company should know. Look at my record. How many complaints have I received being in business for 20 years? I can only recall one, it was about 15 years ago and it got resolved in minutes after a phone call. The customer dropped the issue, simple. Any questions, feel free to call anytime.Thank you,[redacted]
