Precision Painting Plus was hired to paint cedar shake shingles, which we did We were not contracted to assess or treat mold That is not within our expertise There is no mention of mold treatment in the contract and everything else which is, was done.Precision Painting Plus did not attempt to collect a balance owed of $even though we fulfilled our part of the contract We felt that since *** *** was not satisfied with the work (no fault of ours)and feels that he may need to spend more money to treat the mold situation, we will take the loss to help ease his process As mentioned by ** ***, a 3rd coat was applied but there was no visible improvement to the appearance of the shingles At this time, it does not appear that we can do more than we have done already We cannot pay $20,to strip paint to treat a problem that we were not hired to resolve We are already at a loss of over $for a completed project.

IT is well within your scope of responsibilty to properly prepare a surface before painting. Our house was a typical cedar shake house from the late 60's. The condition of the shingles is documented in your contract as is the committment to properly clean prior to applying paint. When using an oil base ESPECIALLY it is a known fact within the painting community that oil will lock in and promote the growth of existing mold from underneath and SHOULD NEVER be applied without proper cleaning and preperation.  We brought this to the attention of your workers and they insured us the product they were using was meant to be used this way.
It is also within your scope of responsibility when using an agreed upon product as professionals to follow the manufacturers instructions and recommendations. This completed job has left us with a situation way more involved and expensive to fix than repainting. We hired professionals because we were not the experts and we wanted it done right. We were assured all along that this was the case so we unfortunately did not learn about the pitfalls of incorrectly doing the job until it was too late.
We spent over 1800 for your company to misuse products and cause over 20K worth of damage, not to mention the time and aggrevation involved.
If you cannot take responsibilty for this and we cannot come to an agreement we will have to persue in court.

We had had several conversations with [redacted] regarding the project.  We also had an expert from Aboffs and an expert from Benjamin Moore reach out to [redacted], look at the job that was done, review the products used and give their opinion to [redacted].  In a correspondence via email,...

it has been explained to [redacted] that mold/mildew could take months to show up on the outside of the paint film.  If it is mildew, there is no product that you can apply to the paint film to prevent the mildew from spreading.  Mr. S[redacted], the expert from Aboffs informed [redacted] that in his opinion, Precision Painting Plus did use the correct products. The problem may be due to the age of the shingles.  Mr. S[redacted] dropped off a gallon of primer and topcoat so it can applied and hopefully resolve the issue at hand.  Furthermore, Zinsser mold killing primer was dropped off as well to apply in a few test areas. We have not received word yet from [redacted] as to the affect of products provided.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The regional sales manager from the paint store came by and was was willing to provide paint however, after putting another layer of oil primer which also did not cover the mold/mildew or patterns black substance, he then dropped mold stop by zinnster which worked better. The problem here is that both products specify that they should not be applied over this black substance and it should be cleaned before applying.  No one will stand behind this job now that the initial products were not used according to manufacturers instructions. The problem and expense here is that now that the oil based product was put over this black substance it is an expensive messy time consuming process to get it back to a situation that can be remedied. The experts are the manufacturers of the products. The spec sheets for the products used clearly state that the black substance, should be cleaned before applying their product. This should be common expected knowledge for professionals using these products. I called and sent several emails prior to going to the Revdex.com that were not responded to. I have attached the last sent email.

Sincerely,
