On August 1st, 2017, the customer towed the vehicle in as it was not in running condition It had no fuel pump, missing proper fuel lines, and the customer stated they wanted a new ignition system install that he had purchased from the internet and brought with him We mentioned to him
that the brand of ignition system that he chose to purchase was not a very reputable brand and it may possibly fail quickly He then stated that it was ok with him since he already had purchased the ignition system We stated at this point that there would be no warranty on his parts that he supplied to us He agreed to these terms We also informed him that using an electric fuel pump (that he supplied) might need a fuel pressure regulator as pressure might be too high and he assured us it did not need one as he was informed from the manufacture that he did not need it We stated in our knowledge it should have one but he opted out to not have one put in We then custom installed fuel pump, fuel lines, and fuel filter Upon testing found fuel fitting at the carburetor leaking and it was leaking due to incorrect gasket installed by previous owners We got proper gasket and the leak was fixed This was charged at three hours of labor. We did a custom install distributor and ignition system, spark plug wires and wire in ignition system Upon testing vehicle had proper spark to start This was charged three and a half hours of labor We then checked all spark plugs and they were severely worn and we advised the customer that they should be replaced The customer then gave us authorization on August 1st, 2017, to go ahead and replace the spark plugs To remove and replace the severely worn out spark plugs, we billed out eight tenths of an hour for labor When installing the distributor we found the crankshaft bolt was missing We informed the customer and they gave authorization to get a new bolt and repair this on August 1st, We charged two tenths for labor to install We then attempted to start vehicle and it would not start unless gas was poured into the carburetor We found the fuel not getting into the carburetor and we advised the customer that we would need to remove the top of the carburetor to see why the fuel was not getting through The customer authorized this on August 2nd, Upon removal of the top of the carburetor we found gas has varnished and plugged up the jets, fuel ports were plugged, and the needle and seat were stuck We then advised that the carburetor would need to be cleared and rebuilt The customer authorized this on August 2nd, We billed three hours labor for cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor Upon firing engine from pouring in the fuel we found extreme exhaust leaks at the header gaskets The customer installed them and installed them incorrectly (backwards) This then caused them to burn out We advised the customer we could get the gaskets warrantied through the place they purchased them from and then install the gaskets correctly The customer authorized this on August, 2nd, We then also informed the customer that the outlet tips were to small for this engine and carburetor since running a tunnel RAM would not let the exhaust exit enough We advised the customer that we could cut off the small tips and install larger tips and they authorized this on August 3rd, Upon the removal of the exhaust we found that we had to retap the bolt holes as they were partially stripped and we advised them of this also and they authorized this as well We charged one and a half hours of labor with the header gaskets being free of charge. We were able to start the vehicle without priming the carburetor after the adjustments were made to the carburetor, ignition timing, and idle On August 3rd, 2017, we called the customer that the vehicle was ready to be picked up When customer arrived the the vehicle would no longer start We then tested it and found no spark We tested and there was no power to the coil We tested the ignition box (which the customer provided) and it had proper power and ground and it still failed We advised that they must supply a new ignition box and we reinstalled that with no charge for labor At this point the vehicle started and ran but we informed the customer that we found the alternator wired incorrectly and it was not charging So we disconnected it to make sure that was not causing the issue with it not starting properly We also informed them that we suspect valves improperly adjusted as vehicle was popping from exhaust and not idling smoothly Also advised the transmission line was severely kinked and must be replaced or the transmission could possibly fail due to the lack of fluid flow Also informed the customer of a very heavy oil leak onto the headers from the valve cover gaskets leaking This could possibly cause a fire The customer did not authorize any further repairs so we did not test drive due to our other concerns and did not want to assume liability for those possible concerns The customer then drove the vehicle home from our shop on August 4th, 2017. We then received a phone call from the customer on August 8th, stating that the vehicle would not start We made a service call visit to their home to verify the customer's complaint The test light we took was defective so we used a screwdriver that the customer so kindly provided to check the spark at the coil We verified that there was no spark by using the screwdriver to try to see spark jump from the coil There was no evident spark and then advised the customer that they would need to tow the vehicle to the shop for further testing and if there was fault in the install that we did, we would then cover further repair If the fault was in the customer supplied parts then they would cover the cost of the repair They then advised us that they would tow the vehicle in later that day The customer never showed up and to our knowledge the vehicle is at a different repair facility and is currently still not running. We did keep in contact with the customer throughout the whole repair process by telephone and in person, as we had them come down to show them all the issues that occurred

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]Bolts were not striped on the headers, they cut the wires on the alternator, per picture the item could not be returned to Procom. They said it need a fuel regulator which is not the case it is running great without that. Never told them to change exhaust pipes because we were adding 18 inches tires on back of said car. The alternator is now hooked up and is charging nicely. Said the valves were too tight they are not. Thanks to our other mechanic Jon Day it is running well. As you can see per the invoices it cost a lot less money for him to repair this car.
