[redacted] was sent to my location by another company I had contacted who got swamped and could not make it. They felt having worked with [redacted] in the past that he could see what was wrong with my boiler. [redacted] showed up, rerouted a flame roll out safety switch and lit the boiler. He left. The boiler ran. I went upstairs. When I returned downstairs some time later after the boiler had shut down again, I found it had super heated, causing flame and soot that clogged the boiler and shut it down due to a damper safety. [redacted] never returned with the part he said he would order. He did not leave his contact information, I learned after contacting the company that sent him what the name of his company was. After they contacted him on my behalf, he returned siting many tremendously expensive jobs he should do to repair my now damaged boiler...and I said NO. I would clean the boiler myself since he was asking $1200. I asked when the switch would be in that he had ordered. He walked out saying, "I dunno" and I never heard from him again. I had no contact info or any invoice from him. I took the boiler apart, cleaned it with brushes, my compressor and shop vac. I called for parts and located them in an hour. Snow was moving in and the unit still would not light. It was Saturday by then, nearly a week later, and I had to call in someone else. He arrived and analyzed the problem. My repairs were fine..even the MacGyvered bracket I made from metal scrap since [redacted]'s super heating had melted the thermocouple bracket off. The excellent tech, [redacted] of Parkey's found that [redacted]'s removal of the safety had also destroyed the main gas valve electromagnet within the unit. He tried to get the supply house, Rampart, that I have worked with before to open for me for their $75 fee, but since it was a weekend, and I am not a contractor (thought I built my own home with my own hands) they would not open. So, I hired [redacted]. He replaced the main gas valve. I also ran to three auto supply shops and bought out their supplies of silicon rubber head gasket material to replace the original fiberglass gasket. I called [redacted] to return with a carbon monoxide detector to run a test after the gasket set up. My system fired up beautifully with "0" carbon monoxide readings. Fantastic. Once I started to read my manual as I dismantled my boiler I saw specific instructions that the boiler should NOT be ignited without the flame roll out switch. [redacted] had done so anyway and according to [redacted], and what I saw... it could have burned my house down. Fortunately it is on a non combustible surface, but the super heating also made some of the copper fittings leak in the manifold for the radiant heating system...something more to fix. So, I DO NOT recommend [redacted] at Premier Mechanical to touch any device, and suggest that further damage can be caused by his doing so, and he will then seek to have you hire him to do more expensive work that is not needed. I DO absolutely and highly recommend [redacted] at Parkeys in CO Springs who is tremendously capable and knowledgeable, and also recommend ABC Plumbing that gets my approval and has a great service staff who can assist with parts and find them during standard weekday hours. In the end, I am glad I was able to do most of the repairs, with the exception of an amp meter that I don't have, but [redacted] did. I am thankful to have a safe home, and have learned a great deal about my boiler that is the heart of the mechanical system for radiant heat and domestic water in this home. I Let the company that recommended [redacted] know of his damaging actions.
