The fact is the movers did not damage the televisons during the course of the move. They were packed in wooden crates that are lined with styrofoam padding, they were uncrated at the new location and left in the living clearly exposed for the customer to view. No damage was reported to the movers as...

there was no damage done by us. We mailed her claim form and as a show of good gesture we mailed her check reflecting the maximum liability that we provided via the contract. The contract clearly states we provide a coverage of $0.60/lb per article.

Review: PREMIUM MOVERS over charged us for move and movers damaged furniture and other belongings.

On 7/22/13 email was sent to confirm move scheduled for 7/26/13. We moved from [redacted] Drive in Rocklin, Ca. to [redacted] Ln. in Lincoln, CA. The addresses are about ten miles apart. The movers arrived on 7/26. They were extremely slow. One mover would just walk around in circles and use our restroom repeatedly. Another, broke our chandelier, pushed shelving off the fireplace and just seemed out of it. Later this mover will comment on how he needs to leave our house before he breaks everything. Not aware of a third person for over an hour. He just hid out in the truck. When movers finally started getting things going it would last for a very short time. They would hit the walls repeatedly with our furniture. About four hours into move, we were very upset. We should of been close to finished (completely finished). Movers had not even loaded truck. One mover kept getting into items they were told to leave alone. Three times I had to ask him to stop. They used our packing supplies (tape, etc.) When truck was almost loaded, we were told there wasn't enough room for our items and they would be traveling with some of our items outside of the truck on the lift gate. Also, they did not move all of our items. This was very odd. A two bedroom plus office 1800 sq. ft. home would not fit in the largest 26 ft. truck. Our home had minimal furnishings in it. We were then told they were going to get lunch before driving to new house. We waited at the new home for over one and a half hours for the movers to show up. And again it starts. Everything extremely slow and one guy takes off for the restroom down the street. We asked all furniture be moved into the garage. Everytime we checked movers were on the phone or laying down on our items. They put extremely fragile packages underneath heavy items that were stacked on top. Movers would load five or six boxes on dolley and then drop down to the lift gate on back of truck. Everything would shake. The items were unloaded into a two car garage. Some items dragged, not carried to garage. When they finally finished, we were informed, our charge would be almost 1300.00 for move.

Email sent quoted special moving price of 735.00 for five hours. We told the movers we only had the 735.00 and the move should of been easily completed in that time. We know because we have had it done before (with two people) The mover insisted on full payment and would not leave without payment. He followed us to a bank for additional cash. This move almost doubled in price. The following day I informed the owner of the damage we were aware of at that time. Our furniture was still in the garage. When we started to unload furniture, we noticed the movers had done quite a bit of damage. Some furniture broken beyond repair, scratches everywhere. The movers actually threw pieces of furniture that had broken off underneath larger items. We informed [redacted] at Premium movers by email and US mail (he signed) of damage and two weeks later he sent a claim form. We filled out the detailed form with conservative damage estimate at 2485.00 and sent pictures of damaged items. Some pieces can never be replaced. We inquired regarding claim and were told not to by [redacted] at Premium. It is now 9/9/13 and we are told the claim is closed. We have a house full of damaged belongings. Basically, we had to pay this company double to destroy our belongings. As far as paperwork is concerned, movers had my husband sign contract stating what time they arrived. We were not given any paperwork (contract) until we paid for move. There was a leaflet left on counter at first address regarding moving out of the state. Note: when movers followed us to bank they tried to get more money from us. Stating Dave at Premium had just called them and was very rude to them because they had not charged enough. According to the contract, we were charged for 7.5 hours. We would appreciate your investigation into this matter. Thank you.Desired Settlement: WOULD LIKE MONEY SENT FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN TIME ON THE MOVE AND ALSO REPLACEMENT VALUE FOR FURNITURE THAT WAS DAMAGED.

Initial Business Response

We did mail out a settlement check on 9/4/2013. Should you have not received it we will gladly cancel that check and reissue a new one in 10 days from receiving notice from you. I had also notified you of this via email on 9/9/13 at 3:54pm. The claim is now closed and no further payments will be made. If you believe to be entitled to any further monies I expect you will be taking us to court and we are prepared should the event arise.

Consumer Response

Premium Movers sent a check for $101.80 with a letter stating we did not purchase additional insurance. Therefore, they were not responsible for our items. On the contract my husband initialed valuation for insurance as he was told to do so by mover. No other insurance was ever offered. This option has no additional charge for us. The $101.80 check sent would not repair one item, let alone the many that were damaged in the move. The mover ran into a hanging chandelier and broke it. Chandelier, a chair, antique crib, shelving and a wall were reported to [redacted] at Premier immediately. We could not see all of our furniture to see the damage as it was unloaded into a garage. When we did start to unload the furniture a couple days later, we saw literally pieces of our furniture that had been thrown on the floor underneath the piece it had broken from. Scratches on items. Extremely fragile boxes (clearly marked) stacked underneath heavy boxes or furniture. I spoke to [redacted] at Premier to explain. He sent a damage report and was very cold from that point on, even asking that we not contact him. We are only asking that we get what we put in that truck. Nice furniture that was not scratched or broken. And, only to be charged correctly. Not for movers extended lunch breaks. Who knows where our furniture ended up on the time it was gone and movers had it loaded on lift gate of truck. Thank you for your time.

Business Response

We did not obligate the customer to sign off on the free coverage line. Additional coverage is available and clearly printed on the contract. We did not charge them for additional coverage and unfortunately it is too late for them to purchase additional coverage. They have yet to cash their check that was sent out immediately and they are more than welcome to take us to court if they believe they are entitled to additional compensation. The movers do take a lunch break between loading and unloading and this time is non-billable. I did review the contract and can assure them that the bill is correct and the lunch break had been subtracted when the total was presented at the end of the job.

Review: This company moved me on 10/19/13 and demanded a cash-only payment. I did not complain about the excess time they charged me (there was an hour not accounted for), their stacking all the boxes in the living room and the missing box. However, I did file a claim for my broken coffeemaker (the on/off switch was broken and per the manufacturer the entire maker must be replaced), which I had just purchased in July 2013 for $99.99 plus tax. Much to my alarm, I received a pittance for this breakage of $6.00, which is a slap in the face. The accompanying letter said that I had chosen a valuation of .60/lb/article as the opted coverage on Combined Agreement for Service. No one, at any point, on any date discussed a coverage amount with me. All that was done on 10/19/13 was a start time. It comes as no surprise to me that I was not given a copy of the Combined Agreement for Service. A copy of the machine cost was provided to Premium Movers. How can I be reimbursed properly? Desired Settlement: I would like a complete refund for the broken coffeemaker.

Response:

All valuation options are listed on our combined agreement for services agreement, and [redacted] signed for the basic coverage of $0.60/lb/article of protection. This is the only coverage that is provided at no charge and carries the lowest amount of coverage. All other options are listed on the contract and are available for purchase for an additional charge. We did audit the paperwork and she was not charged for any services she did not receive. Unfortunately it is too late to purchase additional coverage for the move.

Response:

If [redacted] would like to take this matter further we would be happy to go to court. We rest assured that we have all the evidence to show this is a case of attempted fraud by [redacted]. I have no doubt in my mind had she not returned to her original home and discovered her missing boxes there she would be filing a claim in the thousands of dollars and holding us liable.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I have no reason to lie about this and am just trying to get the company to accept the problems they have:

(1) Failure to offer additional coverage and explain coverage.

(2) Failure to provide "Bill of Lading" (The movers only had a pink sheet on the clipboard and said it was the only copy and they did not provide those to customers)

(3) Failure to account for time charged. (I have a witness.)

(4) False accusations about me: If I had wanted to file a claim for the missing boxes (that I found at the old apartment), they fail to recognize that according to their policy and what I supposedly initialed (which they would not give me a copy of), the claim would not have been for the thousands of dollars they are alleging, but merely a few dollars as they pay in weight not on the value of the contents of the box.

I am willing to settle this for full value of the coffeemaker. If they are not willing to accept this, we will go to court.

Sincerely,
