I contacted Premium Waterproofing to resolve a water leak below the front door of the home we owned in Batavia, IL. Premium Waterproofing provided me an estimate to "Remove brick paver patio and jackhammer concrete to expose foundation wall. Apply Strata/Flex waterproofing to the exterior foundation wall. Fill in with compatible stone/sand, re-assemble brick pavers. (2 year leak warranty)". The agreed price was $3200. The company estimated that the work would take two days. On 5/27/16 I agreed to this estimate and authorized a payment of $1600 which was charged to my credit card. On 5/27/16, the company came to the house to begin the work. They removed the pavers and determined that it was not necessary to jackhammer the concrete or apply the Strata/Flex waterproofing. They believed that the problem could be resolved with a more minimal procedure. They applied some sealing material above the concrete but below the door sill. The pavers were then replaced on the undisturbed concrete. The job was completed in a total of 6 hours with far less time and material than originally estimated. Due to the dramatic reduction in the scope of the work, I asked for an appropriate reduction in the price. The company refused. They demanded the full $3200 or they would file a contractors lien against the property and declared that they would not warranty the work. I suggested that the original payment of $1600 was fair for the work done. I did volunteer to pay the company up to $1600 if they had to do additional repairs within the two year warranty period. The contractor refused to consider my proposals and moved to file the lien. Since the legal costs to fight the dispute would have been greater than the $1600, I reluctantly paid. I view the treatment I received to the contractor's equivalne of a "bait and switch". I strongly suggest that consumers avoid this company for their waterproofing needs.
