My boyfriend and I resided at the Lake Street Apartments in Neenah. When we moved in, the apartment manager at the time, Matt, told us that he was going to replace the screen on the patio door. The tenants before us got spray paint on the screen, wall, and patio cement. There was some slight wear and tear on the screen as well. The screen never ended up being replaced, but I don't think it was intentionally. Accidents happen and people forget things. No big deal. When we moved out, about 2.5-3 years later the screen still wasn’t replaced. I figured since Matt said he would replace it, that we wouldn’t be responsible for replacing it.
When we received our security deposit return, we didn’t receive the full amount. $65 was deducted for two things:
1. The damaged patio door screen (broke out near door handle)
2. Not “cleaning” the window and patio door tracks
I called the office to discuss these charges and explain why I felt they shouldn’t have kept any of my deposit. I spoke with Debbie [redacted] the office manager for Prestige Realty. I explained to her how Matt said he was going to replace the screen but never did. She said she would have to be in contact with the building owners to see if they would refund that portion of the deposit they withheld. I feel I shouldn’t have had to pay for a new screen when the original was in less than perfect condition in the first place. Ultimately they refused to refund it.
When we submitted our notice of intent to vacate they sent us an extensive cleaning list. I cleaned everything on the cleaning list as specified. The cleaning list stated to “Clean the patio door; vacuum the track and screen” and for the bedroom window to “Clean the window, and vacuum the track and screen.” I did exactly as the list stated. It does not say to physically clean the tracks, it very clearly states to vacuum them. When I was speaking with Debbie about this she was extremely rude, and even put me on hold without asking for permission first. She told me that it was just “assumed in” with cleaning the door and windows. I told her that if they can specifically state to vacuum the tracks, they need to specifically state to actually clean the tracks, rather than assume we’ll do it. With a list as detailed as the one they provided for us, there’s no excuse for not specifying this.
I know $65 isn’t a great deal, but I do believe these charges were unjust. The disrespect and lack of professionalism I encountered in my interactions with Prestige Realty has lead me to give them a negative review. Over our tenure at their apartment complex we we’re excellent tenants. We always paid our rent on time, kept things in good condition, and didn’t cause any disturbances in the complex. I would think these reasons alone would help in our fight to get our full deposit back, but clearly they don’t care.
In the almost 3 years we spent in their complex, our rent was raised on two or three occasions. With the increases in rent, we never saw improvements to our unit, the complex, or the property itself. Upon moving out, they were raising our 1bd 1 ba apartment rent to $625. Crazy if you ask me. I liked the apartment, but I would not recommend renting a unit from Prestige Realty due to their deceptive ways and lack of professionalism.

Review: Me and my fiance at the time had rented from this company. She moved out I did not. They have put a collection on my credit report only. They will not provide reason or remove the collection from my report.Desired Settlement: I want the collection stopped and removed from my credit report.
