I was scheduled for an interview with this company. I am currently in school and looking for experience in the paralegal field. When I came into the interview, it seemed to go well. Then they started reading my resume. The lawyer in charge said, "geez, you've had a lot of dirt jobs!" (I have been taking what I can get so I can help my husband to pay the bills,because unlike many younger women in this society, I believe I have something to contribute as long as I am able to work). He then said "My son is going to UW Madison, and wants to take all language courses. You are the perfect example of what he shouldn't do, because you took all language courses, and here you are battling to find a job!" Never have I EVER been so humiliated in my entire life! Then, he made it sound like the job I was applying for was too much responsibility for me, and I would never be able to handle it. When I left (in tears I may add), he told me to "tell my husband to keep taking classes"(He asked what my husband did for a living and I had told him he was taking boiler operator classes and looking for work). This is 2015 for crying out loud! I was made to look like a complete fool, like all I was good for was to stay at home and be a housewife. I am still having panic attacks and having trouble sleeping as a result of this interview. A simple "we need someone with some more experience" would have sufficed, and I would have gracefully moved on. Since this person was so condescending, smug and sexist during this whole unfortunate experience, I felt it was my duty to inform others, especially other women/recent college grads, that you do NOT want to interview here!
