Prince Albert SPCA Animal Care Shelter Saskatchewan Reviews (1)

SPCA wouldn't give our dog back to usMy dog was in the care of my mother in law, she had meetings at the time and had no one to watch the dog and I was away that time so my sister in law room the dog back to Prince Albert knowing she wasn't allowed pets in her home and she got caught with him and took him to SPCA on May 29th and I wasn't aware of that until June 4th. When I found out I went to the SPCA to get my dog back and was told that it was too late because it was over 72 hours so the dog is legally theirs, they told me to fill out an adoption application which me and my mother in law did and we both got rejected. [redacted]Desired SettlementI even suggested that I pay the expenses they spent on the dog but still they would not give us our dog back. Business Response [redacted] The dog in question arrived in our care on May the 29th 2014 and after 72 hours, as required by law, became the property of the Prince Albert SPCA. We did receive a call from [redacted] after the stray hold was up claiming the dog was hers. As per our policy we asked Ms.[redacted] to fill out an adoption application. Ms.[redacted], as well as her mother in law both submitted applications to adopt the dog in question. Both applications were denied due to the fact that neither applicants were prepared to sterilize the dog nor were they prepared to vaccinate it against disease. Our mandate at the SPCA is to promote the health and well being of all animals and to ensure that any animal leaving our facility is, or will be sterilized, as pet overpopulation is a huge problem in our society. In closing I would also like to mention that several times during our conversation Ms. [redacted] requested that "if I can't get my dog back can I at least have the $300 I paid for him!"[redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The dog didn't live in the city, and they have no right to tell people to make they're dogs sterilized, it's up to people what they want to do with their pets ! Not the SPCA. And of course I was asking for my money back I wasn't just going to donate a dog to these people who think they have every right to tell people how to take care of their own pets. And I also told them I wasn't ready to vaccinate him as I didn't have the money for it but was working on it. Business Response The dog in question was legally the property of the Prince Albert SPCA and as such we have every right to determine where the dog will be placed. There are no grey areas when it comes to the sterilization of the pets in our care, which the dog in question legally was. The dog has been neutered and was adopted quite some time ago. As far as we are concerned this issue is now closed.[redacted]
