I tried to get insurance on a home I was purchasing. Everything seemed fine then 8 days before closing they called and refused my insurance. They already are holding the policy on the property and would not give me a reason for not giving me the insurance. I talked to the Blair Campbell the General manager and he was very arrogant, stating he didn't need to give me a reason for the refusal. Jane MacLaurin was the agent. I cannot help but think this is motivated by personal motives!
I had insurance on a property 20 years ago for 10 years with no claims with island Mutual.
All my family is insured through island mutual for over 100 years. Now when my dads health is failing and I want to be home with him this is how we are treated as customers. Not good business practice!

As a Mutual, in the interests of our Members, we need to have standards for assessing risks. These standards include many factors around the property and the person applying for insurance.
An Insurance policy is arranged by choice of an applicant and the Insurer. Both the applicant and insurer decide if they will enter into an insurance agreement. When it is feasible for us to provide coverage we are happy to make the arrangements.
