AODE Transmission rebuild from Mustang GT - Transmission received is defective: This situation began on 02/08/when I brought the AODE transmission out of my Mustang GT in to be rebuilt Days later I received a call which advised me that the cost to rebuild the transmission as well as a new torque converter would cost $1,900, and the repair would take roughly one week to complete As promised, I received a call one week later that my transmission was ready to be picked up When I picked it up, the owner, Harm ***, advised me to bring it back in after it's been installed on the car to ensure it's tuned up properly The following weekend 02/20/we attempted to install the transmission, but found that we were given the incorrect torque converter We had to once again remove the transmission, return to Prior Lake Transmission with the old torque converter, and wait one more week for a new converter to be ordered in Upon receiving the correct torque convert

I am rejecting this response because:Disputing the below statements:
"we have not performed ANY service on your vehicle at all."This is mentioned at multiple points within your response I should mention to you that my car was at your shop for a total of weeks over visits First was when I brought it in for shifting, second was when the leak was discovered. It's worth noting that you got extremely defensive when I questioned the fact that you actually did work to my car while it was in your shop I appreciate you confirming the fact that you indeed did NOT do any work to my car for the weeks it was in your shop despite what you told me. "you purchased from us a custom built transmission and torque converter for your Ford Mustang RACE CAR"At what point did I EVER tell you this was a 'race car'? If you recall our conversation when I originally brought the transmission into you, I told you this was going to be a STREET CAR that I would like to be able to have fun in."you came to our shop to complain that the transmission was not shifting properly."This is not actually the case When I picked up the torque converter from you, you told me to bring it back once it's been installed to ensure it's shifting properly Based on your statement, I brought my car back in to ensure all was well I told you that I THOUGHT it might be off."you have not informed us of any issues with shifting since that visit."If you reference my email sent on Friday, July 1st, you will see that I did in fact inform you that it felt to be shifting poorly still."your vehicle is a RACE CAR and the torque converter was purchased from a manufacturer that does not warranty parts for RACE CARS"Let's just say theoretically that I did tell you this was a 'race car' (I can assure you I did not) - Knowing this, why would you sell me a torque converter you knew was not suitable for that use? Seems dishonest, Harm."You maintain that we should uninstall your transmission and torque converter at no chargeAnd that is the heart of the matter"Again, not trueIn fact, I've told you on numerous occasions that I WILL NOT return to your shop, whether for free or not. I've requested a receipt and invoice from this business on numerous occasions, of which they are unwilling to supply without my physically being in their shop Due to the circumstances of the situation, I will not meet Harm in person

Harm and his crew seem to have excellent knowledge about transmissions in general, and older vehicles in particularI have a year old pickup that they were able to re-build the transmission on, and despite it taking quite a long time due to parts needing to be rebuilt in another part of the country, Harm honored his warranty when the initial repair failed by sending out that part for rebuild and absorbing the costI was pleased his intent was to "make it right", and he didI has worked now for several months, and I am pleased with the service and the outcomeI am now going to him to have the radiator sent out for rebuild

We take issue with Mr. [redacted]'s accusations and inaccurate characterization of his dealings with our shop. He cited "service issues" as one of his complaints against our shop but we have not performed ANY service on his vehicle at all.  All we have done is sell him quality parts at a fair price....

To an outside observer, it would appear that we have worked on his vehicle to his dissatisfaction. But that is not the case and for him to suggest otherwise is misleading.   In February of 2016 Mr. [redacted] purchased from us a custom built transmission and torque converter for his 1994 Ford Mustang RACE CAR   At some point subsequent to the purchase, Mr. [redacted] installed the transmission and torque converter in his vehicle himself at another location. We were not involved in any way, shape or form with the installation.   At some point after Mr. [redacted] installed the transmission and torque converter, he came to our shop to complain that the transmission was not shifting properly. We explained that there is a difference in the shifting characteristics between the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) transmission that he replaced and the custom racing transmission that he requested us to build. We did not perform any service on his vehicle at that or any other time.  And he has not informed us of any issues with shifting since that visit.   Mr. [redacted] later returned to our shop to inform us that he had discovered a "leak coming from the front." At that time we  put his vehicle on a lift in order to visually examine the transmission. We informed Mr. [redacted] that we could find nothing wrong with the transmission in our visual inspection and told him that the leak could be a result of how the transmission was installed.  We also informed him that it could (although very unlikely) be coming from the new torque converter which MIGHT be under warranty.  The reason that we said MIGHT be under warranty is because his vehicle is a race car and the torque converter was purchased from a manufacturer that does not warranty parts for race cars (an industry standard.) We further informed Mr. [redacted] that it was likely that the leak was coming from the connection at the torque converter (a common issue) and the only way to determine the origin of the leak would be to remove the transmission and examine the connection.  Since Mr. [redacted] installed the transmission himself, we told him that he had two options: 1. he could uninstall the transmission so we could examine the torque converter and the transmission to make sure they were sound. or 2. We could uninstall the transmission for him but we would charge him for that service.   Mr. [redacted] maintains that we should uninstall his transmission and torque converter at no charge.  And that is the heart of the matter.  All we have done is provide him with parts for his race car. He installed the parts himself. We have performed NO labor on his vehicle at all.   We have been building, repairing and installing transmissions for over 20 years.  In that time, we have seen many issues arise from the improper installation of transmissions by general auto mechanics and hobby enthusiasts. In the majority of instances, the leak Mr. [redacted] is experiencing results from an improper connection during the installation process. We did NOT install his transmission - he did it himself. We are not saying that he installed it incorrectly but we ARE saying that the only way to determine the cause of the problem is to uninstall the transmission and examine the connection.   Mr. [redacted] claims that he paid for "a working transmission and I've not received that yet." In point of fact, the transmission he purchased from us is working properly, as evidenced by the fact that it is shifting properly and he has been able to drive it "approximately 300 over the period of a few months."  The issue is with the way the transmission and torque converter was installed (i.e. the leak.) We have installed hundreds if not thousands of these Ford transmissions over the years and what Mr. [redacted] is experiencing is, as we mentioned above, a common installation problem.   If, in the unlikely event, there is any defect in the transmission we built, we will stand behind it.  If there is a defect with the torque converter we will address that on Mr. [redacted]'s behalf with the manufacturer (keeping in mind that parts that have been used in race cars are not typically under warranty.)   If Mr. [redacted] had purchased a transmission and torque converter from an auto parts store and installed the parts himself he would not be able to return to the store and have them diagnose or fix the issue because they are they are simply the supplier of the parts and are usually not mechanics or transmission specialists and have no facilities at the store to perform the work. Although we are mechanics and transmission specialists, there is no difference between us and the auto parts store in this instance because the only thing we have done is supply Mr. [redacted] with parts.   Ultimately, we want Mr. [redacted] to be satisfied with the parts he purchased from us. If and when he uninstalls his Race Car's transmission and torque converter, we will be happy to examine them for him and make sure that they are without defect and functioning properly.
