The first time [redacted] had contacted us he was unhappy with his purchase of this 943 Bobcat skid loader. It was not starting as he felt it should. He wanted to figure out why it was not starting good and where all of the leaks were coming from. He did not want to spend more than $100. He...

wanted our opinion on suing the person he purchased the 943 Bobcat skid loader from. He said it was advertised as in good running condition. He had someone else working on it to resolve the starting issue and leaks. [redacted] was not happy with their work. We checked out the engine starting issues. It did start hard. This 943 Bobcat skid loader is 30 plus years old. The engine had a large amount of blow by. When we tested the engine cranking system we had found that it was working correct. The engine was wore enough that it was causing the starting issue. We ran the machine and checked for leaks. We found a loose hose. Tightened up the hose and that leak had stopped. There were other very small leaks but we did not see anything major. As we were well over budget for the money he wanted to spend we stopped working on it. This was W00201 for the amount of 203.56He had called back one day during work and talked to me. He had stated he was working over in the Green Bay area. He said that his loader still had a very large leak. He was leaving a trail of oil everywhere he drove. The machine did not leak this bad when it was in our shop. It did not leave a trail of oil though our shop. This was not the main reason he had called. He was having trouble getting the boom to lift and the bucket to tilt. One of the other people at the job site had moved the loader. After that it had not worked. He assumed that the loader was ran low on oil and the pump had stopped working. After talking on the phone with him for a while I diagnosed that the auxiliary hydraulics were locked on. When the auxiliary hydraulics are locked in it dead heads the hydraulic system and prevents the boom and bucket from working correct. After he released the auxiliary hydraulics everything started working correct. He thanked me for helping him get itgoing over the phone. He was not happy about the leak. I do not recall ever asking him "why would you take it that far without testing it". We replaced the blown out O-ring on the drive motor. We also replaced other O-rings as we had to removed different things to repair the leak. He got an estimate on the amount to rebuild the leaking tilt cylinder. We rebuilt the tilt cylinder. We could start the loader to check for leaks. But we could not operate it and check for leaks as we did not have the drive controls. He did not want to pay for us to install them back on. The repair we made was on a drive motor hose. To correctly test the drive motor hose it would need to be driven. This was work order W00504. The repairs for the drive motor came to be $285.75 to rebuild the tilt cylinder was 180.03 The total bill was 507.54About a month later [redacted] had called and was extremely unhappy. He had reinstalled the levers back on the loader and drove it. The same leak we had repaired was leaking again. I told him that anything we had repaired we would fix for free. He brought the loader back in. This time he had the drive control levers still in the loader. We quick inspected the loader. It was leaking from the same O-ring we had repaired on W00504. He had some other things he wanted repaired. He pointed out that there was a line that had the rubber cracked and was wet. He wanted that line replaced. He wanted the throttle repaired so it would stay in place. He also wanted to get the seat bar to stay up. It was missing the gas shock. I told him we would also cover the labor to remove and re Install the drive control levers due to circumstances. We found that the O-ring we had installed failed. We reinstalled a new O-ring. We covered all of the labor for this repair. Including removing the drive control linkage that he had not paid for us to do before. We covered $880.50 to repair the leak. Originally he had only paid $285.75 for this repair. This added amount was from the labor to remove and install the drive control linkage. We were able to drive and correctly test the repairs made.  After we were able to run and drive the loader. We found that the hose he wanted replaced was not causing it to get wet. There was oil leaking from fittings and a valve above it. We removed the valve and replaced the O-rings that were causing the hose to get wet. Reinstalled the valve. We took apart the throttle assembly and found it was rusty and worn. Cleaned up the throttle assembly and installed a new friction disk and washer, the throttle stayed in place. We installed a new gas shock to keep the seat bar up. These were all new repairs. That we had not been told to repair before. Fixing these leaks, throttle, and gas shock came to $377.61The shop would cover the $880.50 Called [redacted] to let him know that it was finished. He knew he would have to pay for the new portion of the work performed. He said he was coming in on a Saturday to pick it up. I said I would not be here but he could pay for it up at the parts counter. He did come in that Saturday, but he opened the gate, took his machine, and left with it before anyone was here yet. We could not test it correctly with out the drive control levers installed. He also said that the seat bar shock did not work at all. He said he put it up and it slammed him in the head as soon as he put it back up. I told him that it was a brand newshock, and if it is not working correct or failed it would be covered under Bobcat warranty or we would take it back. I told him to bring the loader back and we would take care of any work we had done that was not working correct. He said he would not bring it back and he would not pay anything. I have tried to contact him multiple times after this to resolve the issue, and his voicemail was full and he would not answer his phone.
