Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below Dear Sir or Madam; As MrB [redacted] states, it is a matter of "I said, he said" As a Retired Army Officer, we had a code of Honor, and that included telling the truth I carried that tradition over to my aviation business, and had an undisputed honorable reputationI will not disagree that the removal of the injector pump was the way of doing it I have removed it many times before and was aware of a potential problem I state again, "potential" problem with reinstalling the pump I did not have the correct tool and had to go the route that I did That is why I made two marks, not one, but two alignment marks I again state that I pointed this out to the mechanic Once the pump was handed to Pro-Formance, it was in their hands I feel an added problem is extreme lack of communication from Pro-Formance If there was any question whatsoever, they should have notified me immediately Another statement by MrB [redacted] is his claim they told me how to remove the pump, and instructed me in how to do so That did not happen Again, I know the way, but it was impossible to do at the time This was pointed out to them at the garage, but they failed to follow my instructions/informationI did call them and tell them the truck had broke down and I had to have it towed to my home address I did not call them the day it broke down When I spoke to their head mechanic, he in no way even offered to repair the vehicle In fact, he made no offer whatsoever to resolve the problem At that point I was too frustrated to even talk to them due to the gross overcharge and their lack of listening to me when I first went to the garage It was evident from dealing with Pro-Formance, a customer that is not a big business is not high on their listTo pursue this further through your office will lead no where The only route I have at this point is legal actionThank you very much for your help and concern in trying to resolve this matter It is evident Pro-Formance will not do anything to resolve the problem they created It also seems that since my experience, this has happened to at least one other person who had dealings with Pro-Formance That is, quoting a price and then increasing the price when the customer picks up his equipment/parts Regards, [redacted]

RE: Complaint ID [redacted] We are not going to get very far if we keep going back to "I said, he said" so let's get to the facts. The customer removed the injection pump and gear incorrectly from the engine and then the customer wanted to reinstall the injection pump and gear back on to the engine incorrectlyAs a repair shop, we have to inform the customer on how to do the correct procedure on any repairIf the customer feels that the way he wanted to install the injection pump was the correct way, he has to supply the service manual from the engine manufacturer showing thatIf the customer cannot supply this, than I feel as though they do not have a legitimate complaint on the marking of the gears and the Invoice that they paid for $606.00.On the billing of the $1,400.00, that was an internal error and when it was brought to our attention, we adjusted the invoice for him and he only had to pay $800.00.The issue with the starter: If it would have been overheated or burnt up, It would have turned slow, or not at allThe customer said in his email that when he turned the key off, the starter kept on turning so in this case I feel that our shop did not overheat the starter. On the repairing of the truck and injection pump, the customer did not inform us when the truck had broken downIf the customer would have communicated with our shop at that time we would have been able to take care of the customer and the repair would have been covered under warrantySince the customer did not inform us until after the fact and took care of the problem on their own, I feel as though our shop should not be responsible for paying for thisAny manufacturer or repair shop would not be willing to pay for this, especially if they were not aware of an issue. If you (the Revdex.com) have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call me Thank youMartin B [redacted]

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.First, there is not one true statement in the letter written by MrB***. It is totally about him telling me how to remove the injector pump. This is something I have done many times. Granted, the last time I removed it was not the way I had wished, but it was the only way I could due to not having the special wrench needed. At no time did MrB*** or anyone from his shop tell me how to remove the pump. The only discussion with him was talking about the pump having to be rebuilt. That was it. No more. No less. MrB*** is only trying to change the subject and who's responsible because I had made it very, very clear to them about my alignment marks. My discussion with them was completely ignored. And to go even further, MrB*** is lying about price. I was given a price of $500. Not the $500-$1,he claims now. He is notorious for such actions, and I am not the only one who he has done this to. Again, he had given me a price of roughly $to do the rebuilt. When I was notified the pump was done, I was given a price of nearly $1,400, which I complained about and was told the original price was to be the roughly $800. They did agree to the original price. But, when I took my truck to the shop to have them install the injector pump, I was told $500......not the $500-$1,he now claims.I don't care if he claims if he did road test it. The vehicle only got about 1/mile from their shop when it quit. I have several witnesses as to the problem and the time it has taken me to try and get it running. I also have the witnesses as to the fact the starter burnt out almost immediately, and it had to be rebuilt. That starter was brand new. I wish to reiterate the fact that I have owned that truck for nearly years, and have maintained it myself, except for rebuilding of the injector pump. I am well aware of the starter problems and in no way would I over use the starter. The witness noted that I turned the key to the "Off" position, but it would not stop. The starter had been previously overheated and the solenoid had broken. I was not aware of the condition of the starter when I tried to start it after it had shut off.I will not accept his answer, for nothing he stated is true. I also called his shop to tell them what happened, and they did not offer to fix my truck. I at least expected them to say they would make it right, but no offer was made. He only now states he will warranty the work after I have filed a complaint

Dear Sir or Madam; As Mr. B[redacted] states, it is a matter of "I said, he said".  As a Retired Army Officer, we had a code of Honor, and that included telling the truth.  I carried that tradition over to my aviation business, and had an undisputed honorable reputation.I will not disagree that the removal of the injector pump was the normal way of doing it.  I have removed it many times before and was aware of a potential problem.  I state again, "potential" problem with reinstalling the pump.  I did not have the correct tool and had to go the route that I did.  That is why I made two marks, not one, but two alignment marks.  I again state that I pointed this out to the mechanic.  Once the pump was handed to Pro-Formance, it was in their hands.  I feel an added problem is extreme lack of communication from Pro-Formance.  If there was any question whatsoever, they should have notified me immediately.  Another false statement by Mr. B[redacted] is his claim they told me how to remove the pump, and instructed me in how to do so.  That did not happen.  Again, I know the normal way, but it was impossible to do at the time.  This was pointed out to them at the garage, but they failed to follow my instructions/information.I did call them and tell them the truck had broke down and I had to have it towed to my home address.  I did not call them the day it broke down.  When I spoke to their head mechanic, he in no way even offered to repair the vehicle.  In fact, he made no offer whatsoever to resolve the problem.  At that point I was too frustrated to even talk to them due to the gross overcharge and their lack of listening to me when I first went to the garage.  It was evident from dealing with Pro-Formance, a customer that is not a big business is not high on their list.To pursue this further through your office will lead no where.  The only route I have at this point is legal action.Thank you very much for your help and concern in trying to resolve this matter.  It is evident Pro-Formance will not do anything to resolve the problem they created.  It also seems that since my experience, this has happened to at least one other person who had dealings with Pro-Formance.  That is, quoting a price and then increasing the price when the customer picks up his equipment/parts.

RE: Complaint ID [redacted]We are not going to get very far if we keep going back to "I said, he said" so let's get to the facts. The customer removed the injection pump and gear incorrectly from the engine and then the customer wanted to reinstall the injection pump and gear back on to the engine incorrectly. As a repair shop, we have to inform the customer on how to do the correct procedure on any repair. If the customer feels that the way he wanted to install the injection pump was the correct way, he has to supply the service manual from the engine manufacturer showing that. If the customer cannot supply this, than I feel as though they do not have a legitimate complaint on the marking of the gears and the Invoice that they paid for $606.00.On the billing of the $1,400.00, that was an internal error and when it was brought to our attention, we adjusted the invoice for him and he only had to pay $800.00.The issue with the starter: If it would have been overheated or burnt up, It would have turned slow, or not at all. The customer said in his email that when he turned the key off, the starter kept on turning so in this case I feel that our shop did not overheat the starter. On the repairing of the truck and injection pump, the customer did not inform us when the truck had broken down. If the customer would have communicated with our shop at that time we would have been able to take care of the customer and the repair would have been covered under warranty. Since the customer did not inform us until after the fact and took care of the problem on their own, I feel as though our shop should not be responsible for paying for this. Any manufacturer or repair shop would not be willing to pay for this, especially if they were not aware of an issue. If you (the Revdex.com) have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
Thank you.

Review: I took an injector pump from a 1984 F-250 7.3 diesel to this shop to have it overhauled approximately in February of 2015. I was notified sometime in May of 2015 it was completed. Due to a few complications, it was not possible for me to get the pump until August of 2015. When notified the pump was ready for pick up, I was told the bill was over $1,400. The price quoted me was $800. This was the first indication that this company was not true to their word. I complained, and they did bill me for the original quote, which I paid in full on 28 AUG 15.

When I took the injector pump to the shop, the timing gear was still attached to the pump, and I specifically told the mechanic not to remove my alignment marks. I pointed them out to him and showed him that I put two alignment marks on the gear. I did this so the gear on the injector pump would match up to the timing gear in the engine. When I went to get the pump when they told me it was repaired, the gear was removed and the alignment marks were removed. The mechanic could have very easily etched marks into the gear if he had to remove mine. This was not done. The owner of the shop told me that I had to be careful installing the pump back onto the engine. I voiced my dissatisfaction and reminded him that I specifically told the mechanic not to remove my alignment marks. This created a huge problem because it is impossible to see down into the engine to find the timing mark on the engine gear. Even with an inspection mirror, it cannot be done. Now, the entire front of the engine had to be removed to ensure proper timing. Another method is possible, but extremely difficult to perform. I tried to install the pump properly, but just did not have time due to the garage I was using was sold and I had to move my truck. I had the truck towed, at a cost of $100, to Pro-Formance to have the pump installed by them. I was quoted a price of $500 to install the pump. I told him I felt there should be no charge due to the fact his mechanic caused this problem. I relented and said I would pay the $500. Later, when I received a call that the truck was ready, I was told the bill was nearly $1,000, double of what I was quoted. I went to get my truck and discussed the situation with the owner. I once again reminded him that his mechanic caused this problem. He played around for several minutes on his computer and made some incoherent remarks. He finally said he would credit me $331.50 from the total bill of $938.26. Which meant he wanted me to pay a total of $606.76. Again, I was not pleased, nor did I feel there should be any charge at all due to his mechanic causing this problem. I paid him and left.

The truck did start, but I got less than a half of a mile when it stopped. This truck is extremely sensitive to engaging the starter for long periods. Due to the design of the starter, it can only be engaged briefly and you cannot re-engage it rapidly. I tried to restart it a few times and quit. I did not want the starter to burn out. I returned the next day and performed some tests on the fuel system. There was fuel to the injector pump. I then tried to start it again and on the very first try, I turned the key off after several revolutions, but the starter would not disengage. It was burnt, and would stop running, even with the key in the 'off' position. It eventually burnt completely and stopped. I then had it towed back to [redacted]. I paid another $100 to have the vehicle towed. I removed the starter to have it inspected and rebuilt, if possible. It was determined that the starter had been engaged far too long for too many times. The starter shaft had kicked back once overheated and broke the solenoid, which caused it not to stop engaging when the key was turned off. Since it was a new starter, I know the shop had probably kept engaging it to get it started once they had the injector pump installed. Anyone who knows this particular truck is well aware that you cannot engage the starter for a long period, or repeatedly without long periods of time to allow the starter to cool. Again, this was a brand new starter that was on the truck before Pro-Formance repaired the injector pump.

I removed the starter, had it checked at a shop I have done business with for many years, and it was possible for him to be rebuild the starter. I installed the starter, but the truck will not start. I cannot get fuel through the injector pump. Meaning, the injector pump is not pumping fuel. The proper procedure, and safest, to start that particular engine is to pressurize the fuel system to force fuel through the lines and filters. You open the fuel line at the injector pump inlet to allow to escape the fuel lines. At that point, the injector pump only has to pump fuel to the injectors and not air. This saves both the injector pump and the starter. It is easy to guess that the shop did not do this, thus causing the brand new starter to burn.

To recap; I was quoted a price to install the pump. When I went to get it, they doubled the price. I got less than a half of a mile from the shop when it quit. The starter was burnt. Once the starter was rebuilt and installed, the injector pump will not pump fuel. I have a total of $200 in towing costs, and this shop then charged me $606.76 to install a pump that I should not have been charged for. I feel that not only should I be reimbursed for the towing and the bill for installation, which totals 806.76, but that shop should also pay for the pump to be repaired so it will work. It would also be appropriate for them to reimburse me for the travel I made to try and get the truck running, which amounts to 100 miles. I do not want this shop to repair the pump. With what they have done, I do not trust the quality of work any more. I feel they should pay to have a reputable shop repair the injector pump and any costs I may incur that directly results from getting my truck running properly. I would also like to note that I contacted the shop that previously worked on this truck. They are 100 miles from [redacted], and it was not practical to have my truck towed that far to have the work done. They told me it should take between six and eight hours of labor. Pro-Formance charged me for 11.25 hours of labor.Desired Settlement: As stated above, I feel this business was very unethical to quote a price, then to double the bill. I completely understand things can happen that cannot be foreseen. But, they caused the problem by not following my instructions and information I had given them. The truck stopped running less than half of a mile from their shop. It cost me $200 for towing, $65 to have the starter rebuilt, and now it will not pump fuel. I do not trust them to do the proper repairs and wish to have another shop repair the pump, and Pro-Formance should pay all costs to get my truck running as it should be running. I feel they should reimburse me the $200 for the towing, the $65 cost for the rebuilt starter, and the cost to have the injector pump properly rebuilt. There will also be a towing charge involved to the shop that knows the proper procedure on this particular engine and truck. I also feel I should be compensated for my time and labor due to their mishandling of this entire project.

RE: Complaint ID [redacted]In response to the letter we received from you, before the customer brought the injection pump in for repair, he stopped in to ask if the injection pump could be bad. We discussed the issues and I told him a couple of things that he would need to check. I also explained to him how to disassemble the injection pump from the engine correctly.A few weeks later, he brought the injection pump in to our shop, which had not been disassembled from the engine incorrectly. He stated that he had marked the gear, and I explained that in the past, that has not worked and that he would have to line the timing marks up to the engine. When he came to pick up the pump, he said that he would do that.A few weeks later, he called me and said that he was not able to line the timing marks up, and asked if we could do that for him in our shop. He asked for pricing on the job and I gave him an estimate of $500 - $1,000. He brought the truck in and we completed the job to the best of our ability. The customer was aware of us not being able to road test the truck after completing the job which was due to a bad break line and he said that he would Fix that himself. Road tests are performed after completion of jobs to make sure that everything is working well. When the customer came to pick up the truck, he agreed to pay the Invoice total of $606.76 and said that he was satisfied with our service.I feel as though there was a lack of communication, and I was not made aware that thet e were any issues. To be sure that there will not be any further issues, I would prefer for your company to be involved in helping resolve this matter. Having said that, any work that we have performed on the pump and on the truck, I will warranty here in our shop. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to call me.Thank you,Martin *.
