It's happened again.

After the experience with Leslie Starling and Under One Roof, LLC, I went back to Home Depot, spoke to the manager there and was referred back to see Veronica and Johanna. They were really upset at all the problems, but had another local guy that could do everything and they had worked with him for a long time. I reached out to Keith and he responded immediately. He seemed very hungry for work and gave me the same list of problems that Ben Goheen at The Neighborhood Plumber had put in righting. They both had similar proposals and both had said that the shower pan should have been plugged and tested a long time ago.

I decided to go with Keith because of the referral from Home Depot.

December 22, 2019 Keith quoted me verbally and the plan was to remove / reinstall the tub correctly. Then, he was going to have one of his subs, Johnny, start on the walls, trim and paint while helping him with the tub. After removing and reinstalling the tub more than a couple times, he needed to rebuild the supports, center the tub to the drain, cut down into the concrete floor to have more room to access the drain, they had the tub in place, but it was off-center and the drain wasn't connected. They pulled it out again and set the tub again, but the tile surround was not installed correctly. In the process, they moved the valve a couple of times and drilled and cut into the knee wall too many times. This has reduced it's ability to support the glass surround. The supports inside the wall are mangled. The tile guys he used did an absolutely horrible job. Keith promised to repair the work, but never came back. No, the tub is NOT supported correctly and the damage to the Knee Wall means additional cost for demolition and additional cost to rebuild that whole area, framing, plumbing, deck for tub, tile and actual finish work. He never finished the tub surround and basically walked off the job and stopped contacting me after he ordered and purchased a granite counter top and sinks on my AMEX. I honestly believe that he discovered that the counter top was the wrong size only after he brought it to my home. The vanities are 24" deep. The counter top is only 22" deep. The back-splash is way to thick and would never have fit in place. He never said why he didn't finish the work. He bought a long top and planned to cut in half. He didn't have the Tools Needed to cut the huge piece in half in a straight line. Keith never gave me a contract of work. He never gave me an invoice or receipt. I don't know where he purchased the counter top and sinks. I've asked for him to take them back and get me a refund on my AMEX. He said No, they don't do refunds or returns. I've contacted my AMEX to dispute the charges.
I believed this guy and bought into everything he told me.
He was going to work right through the Christmas holiday and "knock this out".
Every single time he came to the house, he needed more money.
He couldn't take a Credit Card for payment. Cash flow problems with his company?
Between Zelle, Cash and AMEX, I gave him over $11,200.
I have disputed all charges - even the one for the counter tops and I'm still working with AMEX.
He took an additional $3,350 in Zelle and cash that I'm never getting back from him unless I take legal action in small claims court.
He wasted my time. He wasted good tile that I paid for some time ago. He uncovered more problems from the previous guy and we both tested the shower pan and found that it leaks badly. He made me a lot of promises and didn't come through on any of them. He never provided me a contract, an invoice for each payment or a receipt.
All the tile around the tub, the entire knee wall and some of the other tile work needs to be removed and demo'ed.
The demo and haul away estimate is $1,200.
My Home Depot Credit Card balance is over $4,000. This was for the Tub, most of the Tile, trim, valves, etc....
The $4,500 settlement that I received from Home Depot Pro Referral services helped a lot! That money will also go toward repairing the screwed up work by the First company, replacing tile that need to be removed and replaced, adding structural framing support, demo of the shower pan and surrounding walls and rebuilding the shower pan.
You've go to see this to understand. They installed some trim. They painted part of the bath and stopped. They got the tub in place but it's not finished. The cabinets are sitting in place - because I PUT THEM THERE MYSELF!
Now that a real, certified plumber has seen all the damage he did removing and reinstalling the tub, not only do they need to remove and rebuild the knee wall, but also, all the plumbing was done using the wrong glue and it's currently leaking. I've turned off the water. There's no further water damage.
Keith removed a section of closet shelves in order to open up a large area of dry wall to inspect the framing and plumbing. All of that needs to be fixed - redone - closed up and the shelves need to be replaced.

Re: Master bathroom remodel

Dear Keith:

This letter is to follow up on our last text conversation of January 14, about a problem I am having beginning with the service performed by Donald, up to that date.

I am dissatisfied with your service because the tile is a mess. It was a waste of time to have him do anything. He couldn’t cut a straight line because obviously he didn’t use the correct tools. I have already attempted to resolve this problem by contacting you, but I haven’t heard back at all. His work needs to be taken apart and done at least to the level of the rest of the work done by the other tile guys. None of his work lines up to the previous work and a huge gap was left at the head of the tub near the Knee Wall. The Knee Wall is mangled and destroyed from repeated cutting and drilling and now the Knee Wall in addition to the Shower Pan and most of the wall needs to be demo’ed and rebuilt.

In addition, I have enclosed copies of my records of monies paid to you. The vanities didn’t get “buttoned-up” like you guaranteed me because the top you got is the wrong size. The countertop that you purchased with my AMEX from “PEG #2 LLC” is only 22” deep. I think you realized that afterwards and gave up on my whole project. You need to pick it up and return it now.

I need invoices for each charge and receipts. The original agreement was to pay you $650 to remove the tub and fix the drain correctly. After several attempts to remove the tub and fix the framing, chisel the concrete the tub is seated very well, but after moving the plumbing and valve assembly, the wood supports in the Knee Wall have been destroyed and there’s no support for the valve, faucet and there’s a big missing part of the deck that Donald left unattended. I understood that the extra work would mean the job would cost more, but you said that would be $1,800 total, not an additional $1,800.

Unfortunately, the problem remains unresolved. Other than the shower, the rest of the bathroom is not finished. I gave you a total of $3,350 since the beginning of the project in Cash and Zelle payments. I gave you on December 16, $650, Zelle, December 23, $850, Zelle, December 27, $ 200 Cash, December 30, $1,000, Zelle and January 2, $650, Zelle. I am hereby requesting that you:

1) Return the 22” deep Vanity top, sinks and backsplash and refund my money to my AMEX. The cabinets are 24” deep. The top you got is the wrong size. It doesn’t fit. Refund all the charges to my AMEX. You never delivered parts, labor or fulfilled any of your promises to finish the bathroom.

2) I have a list for you for each payment I made to you that totals $11,259.80. You don’t need a computer; you can fill in the blanks for each line item to develop an invoice. It seems that you may have “accidentally” double charged me for things like the tub repair, the vanities that I assembled, the glass shower door, walls and labor to install. You can refund that money or explain it to AMEX as I will dispute the charges and show them that I have simply not received parts, labor, invoices or receipts and you’ll have no recourse. Refund the charges to my AMEX. In Zelle and Cash alone, I gave you $3,350. Of all the work that you and your helpers did on my property do not justify or add up to $3,350. You and Your Company were short of funds and you didn’t have the cash needed to pay helpers and you asked me to Pre-Pay for work that you were going to do for me. I have a very long list of text messages from you. You promised to take care of everything, even to work right through Christmas Day and make sure everything was done correctly.

3) Since the framing in the knee wall is so mangled and destroyed, it will need to be rebuilt. It will need to be demo’ed along with the shower, lower tiles if that’s possible, floor, cement pan and then all the plumbing needs to be repaired in that area prior to rebuilding the knee wall and removing and replacing all of the tile and decorative trim around the tub correctly. You can subtract that cost from what I’ve already paid you. All of the tile around the tub needs to be ripped out and replaced and as it turns out, No, the tub is NOT supported correctly and the damage to the Knee Wall means additional cost for demolition and additional cost to rebuild that whole area. Not only did you grossly over-charge me for incomplete and incompetent work, you’ve cost me more money to have someone else rip out and replace the poor work you and your helpers have done.

4.) You have left ladders on my property. I suggest that you contact the local Lilburn police department and me to agree on a date and time specific to pick up your ladders so that no one thinks that you’re trespassing and stealing anything from my property.

5.) I have patiently waited weeks with no contact while you finished your “big framing job”. You have one week to respond.

Please contact me by February 19th, 2020, to confirm that you will honor my request. I have prepared a complaint for submission to the proper agencies for investigation starting with the Revdex.com.

Thank you for your anticipated assistance in resolving my problem. Please contact me at if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

David Mullen, III

The Pro Referral from Home Depot connected me with,
Leslie Starling
Under One Roof Service LLC
678-823-3934

Brief recap:

I was hoping to do a Master Bathroom renovation and remodel. I did all the demo work myself and went to Home Depot.
Under One Roof Service, LLC, Leslie Starling sold me on the idea that he and "his crew" could do all of the work. Being referred by Home Depot I had to believe that they were reliable, insured, licensed, certified in the necessary areas of work and new how/when to pull permits. I was promised 2 weeks to completion.

On Oct. 9th, 2019, Leslie texted me to meet at my home with a Certified plumber, Theo, to inspect the Master Bathroom. They finally came by days later on the 13th. I had most of the demolition finished and I was looking for a professional service to install a new bathtub, rebuild the shower stall, new cabinets, minor electrical, wall board, paint, tile, etc as noted in his estimate.

Things began to go wrong as soon as I had agreed to use his company for my work. He sent an estimate to me on 11/3/19. He asked for 30% up front of the total $7,685 to begin work. As a homeowner and long-time customer at Home Depot, I had made it Very clear that I needed to run all expenses for parts and labor through my Home Depot Credit account. I had paid Home Depot in the past, over the years, for projects at other homes I’ve owned. Because I thought that I had provided Leslie with the wrong Credit Card information or perhaps I needed prior approval from Home Depot I called the Credit Card account and learned that I could only use their CC for in-store purchases. That’s why I was forced to use my personal AMEX for labor while using the Home Depot CC for store purchases. I should have stopped there, gone back to Home Depot, talked to a store manager, had them explain to me that Leslie was not a direct employee of theirs and planned the entire renovation through Home Depot’s own renovation team and had one bill on my HD CC. I felt that I entered into a contract with Leslie and that I couldn’t simply back out.

After only several days of work – half days for the most part, Josh called or texted me with excuses that he was sick, his daughter was sick, he had other work obligations and thought that “the tile guys” were still working on the bathroom. He was in way over his head. He had no clue how to handle the plumbing issues, drain lines, pressure test, etc.

After working on the project with his crew for the first four days, Josh and on a few occasions around Thanksgiving showed up trying to figure out how to re-connect the tub drain. Ultimately, he did it incorrectly. According to three other Certified plumbers and pros who know their business, the flexible piece accordion style, flexible tubing that Josh installed does not meet code and would have caused huge problems down the line. The tub was installed into a frame that was too tall and getting in and out would have been awfully difficult in addition, there was no support directly under the tub like the previous tub had. Normally, they pour concrete and push the tub down into the wet concrete and let it sit to harden. Josh had capped off the old “Pee-trap” drain line top, the part that would have connected to the overflow drain, saying that My tub didn’t have an overflow drain. He had mistaken the three holes for valve and faucet ports rather than a special overflown drain area particular to the new tub. There was a specific drain that needed to be purchased separately with the tub that was a particular piece that Josh needed. He had no clue.
I had repeatedly asked Josh to cap all the lines and test them for leaks. That was Never done.
I had to cap and test them myself. I didn’t find the leaking connection buried behind the wall until just this morning, Jan 6th.
Josh hired Gabriel and his workmen to do the tile work and build the shower pan, tile the walls and floor. Everything looked great. I saw the rubber liner that Josh bough at Home Depot and he was actually concerned that it might not be large enough.
I can only guess / believe that Gabriel decided not to use the liner material, rather trusted that the hydrophobic paint that they applied would keep out the water.
The shower is a complete failure. It looks pretty, but it does not hold water. No one supervised the construction or tested the shower to see if it would hold water.
The tub was installed way too high in order to "rig" the plumbing to the drain. This was a code violation and would definitely had led to problems in the future.
There were plumbing leaks. The shower head plumbing connection were mounted wrong.

Then things got worse. I was sold on more promises to fix "everything" by Keith Buckley.

Keith is set to return tomorrow to install the counter tops, sinks and reconnect the tub drain (done). He should connect the supply and drain lines, secure the cabinets, sink faucets and paint. (Little to any of this work has been done)
The tub was recently set again after failing to line up the drain connections and now the tile guy was fired for really poor work, leaving an extreme mess of dust that We the Homeowner's need to clean. My wife has respiratory issues.
I have paid Keith a lot up-front. I was upset, desperate and stupid. I don't have an invoice or a receipt for any work or materials. I have lots of text messages and lots of promises. There's been no work this past week. He claims to be stuck on a larger job that's demanding his attention. He's had three workers on my property. "Johnny" was a handy-man who chipped away the concrete to work on the drain. He painted HALF of the bathroom - marginal to poor quality, but it was just a first coat. He installed base molding but no caulk. Another guy had completed some nice tile work and put the toilet back in place on a new wax ring and secured it in place. I cleaned the toilet and reconnected it myself. Now I can stare at the unfinished job every morning. The last guy Keith brought in last week, "Donald", did the worst tile work I've ever seen. In one place he used bits of cardboard from a paper towel roll as spacers. Because he didn't use spacers everywhere, the glass block slid down under it's own weight and now there's no room for grout - in addition, the decorative tile that he did install did not line up with the previous tile work done by Gabriel's crew. He must have cut most of the tile in the house because there is a thick coating of dust everywhere - we had cleaned it after the first crew made a big mess in December.

Home Depot, or everyone else’s insurance company should be stepping up to take responsibility for their failings and compensate Keith or a qualified person/company to remove everything, all the shower surround, shower pan and a lot of the plumbing and re-do all of it correctly.

Pro Referral opened case *** and a settlement was reached with the customer. A Settlement and Release Agreement has been signed by both parties and case has been closed.

I am a licensed contractor that has been doing business with Home Depot/ Pro-Referral for several years now. I noticed that I wasn't receiving any leads for jobs with Pro-Referral for about 6-8 weeks. When I checked my account I noticed that my information was incorrect. They had the wrong licensed number and it stated it had expired in1969. When I contacted Pro Referral they noticed that it was incorrect and the only explanation they gave me was there must have been a glitch in the system. I was told that this was the reason I wasn't receiving any job leads. I was told they would look into it and get back to me the following week. No one contacted me so I called them about 2 weeks later and told them I was waiting to hear back from them I left several messages with one of their reps but he would not return my call. I called again and it just so happened that I got the same rep who promised to get back to me I told him I would like to speak with his supervisor and he said one would call me back in 24 hours. Four days later no one has called me back. My points have been expiring because they have only sent one job lead in 6-8 weeks. I said to their rep how can I keep my points from expiring when you are not sending me any job leads

Pro Referral Response • Oct 14, 2019

Contractor was refunded 380 points for expired transactions on our Pro Referral platform as requested. His contractor license had been updated to reflect correct expiration date.

When I had water damage in our home, I turned to Home Depot and was contacted by the team at
Helping Hands Construction & Handyman Service. The owner was very helpful in explaining what
would be needed, how much time it would take, and very clear concerning costs.
The work team was professional, on time, considerate and trustworthy, I was very pleased with the work and would recommend them to anyone who asked that needed these services.

We hired a man from Pro Referral because the Home Depot rep said they are licensed, insured and guarantee their work. After paying Mike Castillo 2100 and another couple thousand in materials, the work was terrible. He was hired to paint and lay tile in 2 rooms. We submitted photos and we were told the max guarantee is 500. However, in order to receive the 500, we could not file a small claims suit against *** We asked for his license number, which we are positive he doesn't have and we were told it was our responsibility. Home Depot said they are licensed, Mike Castillo said he was a licensed contractor and Pro Referral implies they refer licensed workers. He was not professional and did not show up until the afternoon hours. He flooded our kitchen, however, he did clean up the water. He also brought in other men to teach them how to do the work we paid him for, We feel as if Pro Referral is a big scam that promotes unlicensed and unskilled workers.

A settlement has been reached with the customer. Customer accepted our terms and a release agreement has been signed. Case has been closed.

I went to Home Depot looking for a contractor to complete a bathroom remodel. I was matched up with a contractor who came to my house and gave me an estimate. He predicted 3-4 weeks with his team. He built a shower bed that was lumpy, he added 2 light fixtures for the double vanity one was 6 inches from the ceiling, the other 9 inches from the ceiling. The tile he laid was on a 4 inch incline, he proceeded to drywall mand using a simple sander and my house was covered with dust from ceiling to the floor. Every surface had dust . I left my house as I could not stay there due to the amount of dust in the air. I spent 5 weeks sleeping on a friends couch. He completed about 20% of the work, then demanded 90% of the payment. He was belligerent and finally I just paid him to get him away from me. I live on my own. The contract agreement was 8600 and I paid him 6800 . I ended up hiring another contractor that cost 8500. I paid 2500 for a construction cleaning crew to scrub the air and now it's been 6 weeks I am not able to move in my house. This contractor could not even lay times that were level on a wall. I sent Proferal copies of my cancel checks, pics, videos of shoddy job and pics of the dust all over my house the house. They provided the liability insurance information
But only offered me 1500 for all the other costs. The work done by this contractor was not just horrible, it had to be completely redone. My complaint has to with the vetting process at pro referral that gives a false sense of assurance. They are taking no responsibility for referring contractors with no experience or in depth knowledge. I would like to be reimbursed at for all the rework.

I manage an electrical company. They asked me to do a background check to keep my company's account active and the third party background check involved providing a photo of my face and my license to verify my identity. Then they went and posted that very unflattering photo on my company's public profile naming me the "electrician" even though I am just the manager without my permission. I clarified my role to them and asked them many times to remove my personal image from their site and they refused.

I used this Home Depot Service to find a California State Licensed Contractor to install a natural gas wall heater in an apartment which I own. The contractor they selected failed to follow State code procedures for a safe install of this gas wall heater. The new heater vent is directly on top of electrical casing made of metal. These hold live electric wires. It may possibly crack due to being overheated. This could possibly start a fire. There an vent to the roof which was cut at the wall since it connected to the old heater. The vent was never disconnected to the roof. There is a cap on it but do not think it is safe. The pipe which pulls out heat is not flush to the wall. There are holes in the drywall everywhere. I have had two handymen say they cannot put drywall over it. They have to create a box which is unheard of in any living unit. This special drywall box will lower the value of the unit when I go to rent or sell the unit. The handymen said it is impossible to put drywall next to the sides of the heater. The wood boards are flush to the wall. They have to be dug out to accommodate drywall. Pro Referral refuses to do anything. They claim this is a good job and it is safe. They want me to pay to have it fixed if there is anything wrong with it.

A contractor referred to be by ProReferral came to my home for estimate on garage coating (epoxy) and options for painting the walkway of my home since the paint on the walkway has started to peel. He advised to do epoxy on the outside as well (though I later found out epoxy is actually not advised for outside). He "eyeballed" the size of my garage and walkway and verbally gave me the quote $1900 and wanted my check right away. I got his referral and information through Home Depot ProReferrals so I trusted his knowledge and abilities. He is a licensed contractor *** which I was easily able to verify so I trusted him and handed him the check for $1900 without a written invoice or any contract. He proceeded by sending his subcontractor by the name of John to start the project. Initially he painted the walls of the garage, then started filling the cracks in the floor with cement. One day it rained so he couldn't come out to start the epoxy coating which was when I finally decided to go to my garage to check their work. I was told originally that the existing paint would have to be stripped, floor has to be grinded and washed (acid wash), etc and that is why it costs so much to get epoxy coating done. None of this was happening. I found out that the flakes are not included in the quote, and that it would cost me additional $800 for the flakes, and the deposit (the check I gave him) was just 50% of the total cost so I would owe him $2700 after everything is done. When I questioned that the prep work does not look complete at all though he says epoxy will be done "tomorrow," *** the owner became very defensive. I discussed that I am not happy his work and do not want to work with him, even decided to sacrifice the $1900 I already gave though maybe only about $300-400 worth of work has gone in. Now he is harassing me with multiple text messages, even at 11pm telling me that I HAVE to proceed and let him complete the job or he'd file a lien on my property. No contract was provided to me or signed by me. Unprofessional

I hired a contractor that was referred to me by Pro-Referral/Redbeacon to demolish my old deck and replace with a new deck. This was in July 2018 and I paid $5,000. The contractor did not show up until September, when he ripped out my old deck. He never showed up after this and has said he does not have my $5,000. I contacted someone at pro-referral and they said they will only reimburse me for about $2,600. I am now sitting with a demolished deck, I will be out $5,000, plus I'll need to hire a new contractor at a cost of about $10,000. Not to mention the time I've spent trying to get a deck and over 6 weeks with a demolished deck.

I purchased one large work bench and two large metal cabinets from ***. Used their Pro Referral service to have someone pick them up at the store, bring them to my house and assemble. As Clint Eastwood would say, "A man has to know his limitations". *** of JG Construction & Maintenance did a fabulous job. I would still be trying to figure out where the hundred nuts and bolts went. *** completed the job in record time (this wasn't his first rodeo). On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give *** a 13.

I have been using pro referrals for along time. I did a job for a customer that was caulking around a tub surround and because there was big gaps we used more caulking that was required. He called to tell me there was cracks. I told him why there was cracks . I returned fixed everything he was happy and he paid me, I have pictures of the job that I did
I went to check the pro Referrals reviews and to my amazement he gave me a unfair and untruthful review and added work I never did, and gave a bad review about that too
I told pro Referral this and they still kept the bad review in. I have all 5 stars in all my reviews including pro Referrals. The people doing the checking about the review didn't even call me or my other worker to find out the truth, they only called the customer, and that's how they base there review on.So that means customers can be untruthful and say what ever they want to say in a review and it will stay in. my review is proof how they handle it
thank you

I bought a ceiling fan at Home Depot and asked that they suggest someone who can be relied on the do a good job installing it. They suggested I call *** at Glo-Mar Electric. I phoned and reached ***, who is the owner of Glo-Mar. He was on a job nearby and said he could stop by my house in half an hour. I asked him what it might cost to mount my fan and he gave me an estimate.
The cost sounded very good to me so I told him to stop by. He showed up on time and began right away to erect my fan. He had some difficulty because the box previously mounted on the ceiling containing the circuitry and fan attachment wasn’t mounted properly. He had to take my new fan down and reposition the box, which slowed him down somewhat, but he finished the job with my fan running smooth, with no wobble, and running perfectly.
I thought he might ask a higher cost than the estimate because he some trouble with the previously mounted box, but he charged me what he estimated when I phoned him.
I’m very happy with the professional and courteous way he did business with me. I would recommend *** for anyone interested in having his ceiling fan mounted.
