Pro-Seal Asphalt Paving & Maintenance Reviews (8)

My name is [redacted] and I had filed a complaint via the Revdex.com of Wisconsin online on 8/13/2015 against Pro-Seal Asphalt Paving & Maintenance Co., Inc. I just wanted to give an update on the status on that complaint as [redacted] of the business stopped by my home today to give me his...

proposal of how to rectify the situation. Please find attached a copy of the proposal we both agreed to and signed. After having a good conversation with [redacted] about my situation, we were able to dissect exactly what had happened to cause my frustration and how the driveway itself came to its current state.  [redacted] was very gracious in taking full responsibility and profusely apologizing again and again for the situation.  I also really appreciated the time he took to take a serious look at the driveway, hear things from my perspective and educate me on exactly what he would do to make things right.  Without any prompting, [redacted] immediately wrote up a formal proposal of all the steps he would take to make all necessary repairs and then went the extra mile to throw in a free seal coating and escalated my proposal so everything would be completed by next week.  He then gave me his personal cell number and email address if I ever needed to contact him with any other questions or concerns. As I understood things, this is not business as usual for him and my situation bothered him greatly as he presents himself, and his business, as taking great pride in their work.  As such, he stated he would be personally onsite to supervise and assist in the driveway repairs next week to ensure the driveway will exceed the typical professional standards for such a repair.  I believe [redacted] was genuinely dismayed over the course of events that took place and I realize that I should not place him personally responsible in any way over a breakdown in communication from one or two of his employees.  I’m glad to have heard him tell me that he still takes full responsibility for the actions his employees took on behalf of the business, but believe that [redacted] should not have his reputation tarnished over such an incident.  I see that Pro Seal has a Revdex.com rating of A+ and it’s very obvious now why they do as [redacted] clearly takes his work seriously as well as the well-being of his customer base. As such, I wanted to both update you to the new events that have just occurred and also wanted to request that my complaint (ID [redacted]) be rescinded and removed from the Revdex.com of Wisconsin website. Thank you very much as well for assisting me.

Review: Pro Seal paved my drive way September 1, 2013. I noticed that some water was not draining correctly after a very heavy rain when I arrived home one day, approximately three weeks later. I called and left messages and no one called me back. After the fourth time, the person answering the phone, [redacted], was verbally abusive by saying, "It has rained before now, why are you just calling!?" I complained to [redacted] prior to my driveway being paved that she had talked to me in an abusive manner, and [redacted], waived my permit charge. I left two messages for some one to come out, and finally, I called [redacted] directly, the person who wrote up my contract. I waited another two days and I called him back, and he said he did a drive-by that evening at dusk, and he did not see any problem. I stated that it did not rain that day, and asked him to come out that morning (10/17/13) since it was raining, and he said he would be out in about 30 minutes (10:30 a.m.). He called back about an hour later and stated he would be out later that afternoon around 3 or 3:30. I told him to ring the bell when he arrived so I could talk with him regarding my concerns and point out the areas in question, and I also found a crack in an area. He never came and did not call to say he was not coming. I stayed home all day for nothing.I wrote to Contact6 that night. I received a response back from Contact6 on October 22, 2013, stating that Pro Seal did not respond to their letter. I have received several emails stating that Pro Seal is not responding to their letter and gave me a list of other alternatives, and you are one of the contacts they sent.Desired Settlement: I would like for the crack to be repaired. Repair the asphalt with heat instead of cutting out the area and seal the driveway without charge this summer. Also, if I call the office again, I will not be talked to like a two year old.

Response:

We would be happy to repair the area in mention with the method also mentioned as soon as the weather permits this coming Spring.

[redacted] can contact me directly at ###-###-#### with any questions.

I will contact her also directly to schedule the repair.

Thank you,

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. Providing the area is repaired properly without any cutting and patching, which would make the area look like amateurs' work. I will take a before and after picture.

Response:

I did meet with [redacted] on 04/11/14.I spent over an hour determining what could be done about improving the drainage.

Review: Our contract was never changed after several calls to get it changed, so after my conversation with [redacted] on July 1, I sent check, (Number [redacted]) in good faith, that the dispute over the dirt that was removed from our property at [redacted]., in error on part of Pro-Seal, who was contracted to do the asphalt on the driveway and he had stated that we will not incur the 1.5% interest rate on the initial contract, as we have tried several times throughout the month of June by phone to resolve this issue, with no response back from [redacted]).

On July 1,2014 [redacted]. had stated that he will get in contact with [redacted] and by July 11, 2014 as we could not get ahold of him. I gave [redacted]. 11 days because he had stated that they themselves have a hard time getting a hold of [redacted]. Which is now obvious in looking at other complaints

[redacted] of Pro Seal called and left a message on 7/10/2014. He had stated that because he has no record of us calling and requesting that the dirt not be moved he wants full payment and now has filed for a notice of intention to file claim for Lien for the full amount. Before the driveway was put in there were several requests that would changed the contract, one the dirt not be removed, two the septic pipe ensure that no equipment hits it or they would be responsible for the damage and to make sure that no trucks were driven on the driveway. We did not receive a new contract with these requests prior to the driveway being done. I had contact Pro Seal and talked to [redacted] expressing my concern and asking when they would be doing our driveway. She had stated that it would be in 2 to 3 weeks and that she herself would call and contact us the day before the driveway was to be installed and make sure everything was correct with what we wanted done. That never happened. They just showed up and started our driveway. Once we had gotten home from work that day we tried calling to find out what happened to our dirt per [redacted], the job supervisor was not available and she would have him call back and also stated that they took the contract before she had time to call us and that it was her fault. We received no call. The next day they came back to finish the driveway. Again we had called during that day left a message and no call back. Two days after the driveway was done we got a call from the foreman on the job asking how the driveway was. We had discussed at that time that we did like the driveway but where is our dirt that we had requested be left on site. He stated that he had given it to our neighbor about 18 yards. We went over to the neighbors to see how much dirt was taken and it was about 18 yards. Our other neighbor had stated that they also drove trucks on our driveway, which was not to be done. Since then they kept on giving us [redacted]’s phone number to call but every time we called no one answered and all we got was a full mail box so we couldn’t leave a message. On June 30th I finally talked to [redacted], the sales Rep. and explained all that had happened and he asked us to send half the payment until he had a chance to take to [redacted]. It took this letter to finally get [redacted] to call back. I am sending you the final payment minus the cost of the dirt you gave to our neighbors. If [redacted] would have done her job and called as she indicated we would not be where we are today. I had called around to get a fair price on the dirt and it would be the $325. I have now sent the last payment minus the dirt that they took and have requested that upon cashing this check (number [redacted]) Pro-Seal has acknowledged the error in their part and payment in full has been made July 11, 2014. This happened because they have very poor communication throughout the company and no one relays messages and [redacted] is hard to get ahold of even there own employees can't get ahold of he. This driveway should have never been done until the contract was changed and that was no fault of ours. We had called and talked with [redacted] and [redacted]. about all of our concerns and they proceeded to disregard our conversations and not document them. We had tried for over a month to contact [redacted] to only receive a phone that could not receive messages, so we could not leave him messages. Since [redacted] had called back on July 10th only after I had mailed him a partial payment, did he finally call back and leave a message, only to say he wanted his money in full. I had tried calling him back 3 times with no reply to get this issue settled and left him lengthy messages with my concerns. This company seems to not want to talk to anyone and feels they are in the right even after we had called to change the contract well before they came and did any work.Desired Settlement: To admit their mistake and deduct the amount of the dirt $325 from the bill

Dear Revdex.com and whomever it may concern;

Review: During 2012 I hired Pro seal to replace a 3' x 20' pad leading to my garage, because my driveway had sunk 2". The workmanship looked OK other than leaving relieve saw cuts in my adjoining driveway, which I want removed during replacement. Over the winter I noticed that the replacement pad was too high as snow was melting and then freezing my garage door to the floor. All winter I had to salt the bottom of my garage door where it met the floor due to the improper pitch. On May 3rd I had [redacted] my salesperson come out and take a look at the improper pitch. He agreed the pad needed to be replaced. [redacted] told me this season was just starting up and when they are in my area they will take care of it. Because I have not heard from them in four months I called them on September 3rd. It was then I was informed by [redacted] it had not yet been approved for replacement! After another week of phone calls [redacted] told me it had been approved for replacement by [redacted] then informed me it was slated for September 16th to be replaced. It rained the day before so they did not come out. When they crew didn't show up I called at 8:30 an on the 16th, that is when I was told by [redacted] that she was just about to call me that they were not coming out due to the rain yesterday. I have made several calls to [redacted] to provide a rescheduled date. I have been leaving messages every other day with [redacted] for [redacted] to return my phone call. My phone call has not yet been returned. On the phone [redacted] keeps telling me they will contact me when they are in the area, but that's what I've been waiting to happen for nearly 5 months. I had also been told by [redacted] or [redacted] (can't remember which) that "we have paying customers that have paid their money already and need their work done, so they come first." In response I have stated "I paid for my job last year and still did not receive the job I paid for. We are a customer that has paid ProSeal for work that was completed in 2012 -that still needs to be corrected". Also, I don't believe not returning phone calls is acceptable. Neither is doing replacement work when it is convenient only for the company doing the work or when they are in the area. I still need to seal my driveway and would like to do it after this work is done and seal it all together. I am unable to complete the summer or fall work on my driveway due to the constant delays on behalf of ProSeal. The weather for me to seal my driveway needs to be atleast 50 degrees for a 24 hour period and my opportunities are getting fewer every day. Please do this repair soon. As a customer that has paid ProSeal for work, and has been observed by a ProSeal representative, [redacted], to require correction, I am asking this situation be resolved by replacement on a timely manner.Desired Settlement: To be scheduled with in a week.

If having your driveway sealed eleven months after putting down a deposit and dealing with an unprofessional and sometimes openly hostile office staff sounds good. Pro Seal is the company you want.

I find it hard to believe that a company with this bad of a reputation can still have an A- rating with the Revdex.com.
Our experience with them was horrible; enough that we did have to take them to court to get settlement. The judge awarded in our favor. They ruined our drive by putting an unnecessary swail in front of our garage while building up the driveway about 20 feet away from the garage. Causing 400 square feet of rain water to puddle up in front of our garage. That was nice during the freezing time in winter! After telling them several times that we did not like what they were doing; they disregarded us and did what they wanted to anyway. According to our contract they were to put down eleven inches of stone and 2-3 inches of crushed stone, and then 3 inches of asphalt. They did not put down any 3/4 in stone, and in some places there is only 1 inch of asphalt. Do not trust them to do your driveway! The owner will deny that they did anything wrong, but thankfully the courts could see it for what it was; poor quality work & deceitful business practices.

Review: In approximately July of 2013, I had a new asphalt driveway put in by this company after the prior asphalt driveway had served the house well during the previous 25 years and was removed by this company to make way for the new one. During the time of the quote given to me prior to this date, I was told that the service to be done, the manner in which it would be accomplished and the materials used would be enough to allow 15 to 20 years of serviceable life. I also specifically inquired about whether the integrity of the driveway would be enough to survive the Wisconsin winters and how they would go about ensuring that trees on either side of the driveway would not be an issue in shortening the life of the driveway. The individual who gave me the quote assured me that neither of these would be an issue due to the way the driveway would be prepared and they would correct these issues and prevent any possible future problems, or damage to the new driveway. After the driveway was put in, cracks immediately started to form on either side of the driveway during that first winter. During this time and all throughout 2014, I had called numerous times to inform the female customer service individual about these crack formations and buckling the new driveway was undergoing. Every time I subsequently called, the female had no recollection of my prior contact and each time assured me that she would send someone out right away to address the issue. Each time I waited and each time I would follow-up with her. Eventually, she stated how busy the business was and that I would need to wait weeks to months before anything would be done. I also attempted to email the business at this time, but never received any response. Over this time, the cracks grew worse and more numerous. Buckling and shifting have continued to occur with existing cracks becoming worse and more numerous to where the driveway now is in a state of needing to be completely taken out and redone. After consulting with other professionals, it was indicated that the work done was sub-par considering the environment, the three months that it took to have it completed was far too long and the lack of customer service response was inappropriate. I have consulted with legal counsel and was advised to first file this complaint before moving into full litigation, which I am prepared to do considering the extraordinary amount of patience I displayed and that fact that the driveway is now in worse shape than the prior driveway it replaced that lasted for over 25 years.Desired Settlement: After being told for over a year on numerous occasions that the company would take action to correct the issue, especially considering that I was told there was a warranty in place and that since I contacted them during the time that it was in place everything would be corrected, believe the driveway needs to be replaced or a refund given so I may then use those funds to contact a company that takes pride in their work and will do a proper job.

Our job was challenging. Some competitors refused the job.Pro-Seal underbid others. They were professional, knowledgeable, fast, courteous, didn't smoke or swear on our property & pitched the asphalt away from our home, the neighbors, our garage with correct drainage. Our first downpour went right into the back yard as intended....AWSOME WORK!
