To Whom It May Concern: Reference ID# [redacted]Their will be no refund for the following reasons: August 26, 21315 8/1/21315-The consumer calls & requests us-(Pro-Tech Trans) to inspect his •Transfer case"-(He had rebuilt the "Transfer Case" himself less than a month prior &...

couldn't figure out why it was rattling/squeaking), we agreed that he would bring in the "Transfer Case" only on Tuesday 8/4/21315. we (Pro-Tech Trans.)requested that the consumer bring the truck in-(it is a lot easier to diagnose a running/moving issue if we (Pro-Tech Trans)can drive said vehicle). The consumer could nat bring the truck only the "Transfer Case".8/4/2015-The consumer arrives at 8:00am with the "Transfer Case". we (Pro-Tech Trans)explained to the consumer that with his permission & at no charge with him watching we (Pro-Tech Trans.)would like to disassemble the "Transfer Case•, inspect internals & find whats causing the squeaking/rattling noise. The consumer agreed. so, we (Pro-Tech Trans.) proceeded to disassemble the ''Transfer Case" infront of him. We (Pro-Tech Trans.) found the front & rear bearings to be installedbackwards. Also upon inspecting bearings, found a couple of the bearings to beworn-(While spinning bearing found them to be rough)-the consumer agreed. Uponfurther inspection found the "Magnet" in the "Transfer case" to be broken in half.Upon showing the consumer the broken "Magnet", the consumer informed us (Pro-TechTrans.)that he had broken the "Magnate" upon disassembling the "Transfer case"himself. Further inspection in front of the consumer showed no problems withremaining parts IE: Gears, Shafts, Forks, Bushings-the consumer agreed. Uponcompletion of the inspection, while speaking with the consumer, we (Pro-Tech Trans.)suggested that we replace the •Bearings"-(Due to a slight roughness while spinning)& the •Magnate"-(Broken in half). The consumer authorized the replacement of a "Bearing Kit"-(Bearings, Seals, & Gaskets ONLY)-(See Exhibit "A")& declined replacing the "Magnate" & requested to reinstall his old one-as he-(TheConsumer) would locate one at a later date & he would install it himself. Also, upon putting case halves together we (Pro-Tech Trans) used the proper amount ofsilicone-(1/16"' bead)to reseal case halves. In closing, their will be no refund due to the facts.#1-The consumer knew about the "Broken Magnate" (he broke it)& requested us to reinstall it.#2-The consumer was present when we-(Pro-Tech Trans) disassembled the "Transfer Case" so that he-{The Consumer)could inspect every part with us-(Pro-Tech Trans.) Henceforth why would we-(Pro-Tech Trans)give a refund on said parts-(see above) when the consumer declined replacing them.Thank-You for your time in this manner. Questions? Call ###-###-####

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The magnet was installed before taken in to Pro-Tech Transmission, even though it was a partial half, it was still very much functional.  It's job is to collect any metallic debris that may cause damage to any rotating parts.  Pro-Tech is obligated to inform the customer they will not install the magnet because it's broken.  I was never informed nor did I ever decline any service.  When a customer refuses services, repair shops will indicate it on the work order and have the customer initial it.  In this case that wasn't done because Pro Tech never informed me that they would not be re-installing the magnet.  They simply forgot or intentionally did not put the magnet back.Weeks later when I called Pro Tech's manager, he offered to look for the it and mail it back.  But I refused and decided to purchase one my self in order to receive it sooner.  The cost was approximately $10.00 with shipping.  I do not seek compensation for the magnet but for the time replacing it.Most statements in Pro Tech's report are false.  I did not take the transfer case in at 8:00 am rater approximately 5:30pm the previous Monday 8/3/05.  As for disassembling it in front of me.  That is not true.  I was told by the manager that I could be there if I had so desired.  I refused but when the transfer case was disassembled, the manager had called me over the phone to come and inspect it.  I went to the shop.  The bearings were not installed backwards as Pro-tech's report states, nor did the technician mention any thing of the like.  The technician did claim the gears may have been worn and had me spin the input shaft so I could see.  I spun the shaft and nothing was amiss and I told him I felt nothing wrong.  I fear he was trying to get me to buy unnecessary parts.  Noting was mentioned of the worn out gear after that.  As for myself and the the Pro-Tech technician, we could not figure out where the rattling or squeaking was coming from.  Which was the original complaint and the reason I brought it in.  So the manger told me "the best we can do is a bearing kit for $550.00."  I agreed.  Later to find out the squeaking was from a worn out tail house bushing. On 8/5/15  I had taken the transfer case back to ProTech transmissions to have some spray paint removed.  I inquired the manager if the tail house bushing had been replaced and if it wasn't I didn't want to pay for them to do it.  He said I would not have to pay for anything and he was almost sure a new one had been installed.  Hours later when I picked up my transfer case for the second time the technician was there.  The manager asked if he replaced the tail house bushing and the technician said he had.Pro-Tech transmissions indicated in their report that they used the proper thickness of silicon 1/16".  Which the correct thickness for re-assembly is 3/16".  I would guess that the technician used 1/4" or more.  Attached is a photo that validates my claim.Pro-Tech transmission failed to reinstall/replace the magnet and falsely accused me of not wanting to reinstall it to defer responsibly.Pro-Tech reassembled a transfer case with a worn out part, the tail house bushing.  A professional shop should have inspected all parts and informed the customer about any in need of replacement.

In regard to the consumers response, their will be no refund for the following reasons:A) we did perform a "FREE" diagnosis For the consumer. our "FREE'' diagnosis consists of: Test drive vehicle, scanning for codes, external check of transmission IE: make sure all electrical & mechanical components are attached properly to transmission, & check level & color of fluid if applicable. Upon diagnosing transmission, found transmission to have internal problems. Recommend to consumer that we (Pro-Tech Transmission) remove, disassemble transmission, & report back to the consumer what failed. The cost to do this was $1600.00 + hard parts-(If needed)+ tax-(the $1600.00 + tax was to cover all the labor to complete repair, soft parts kit-IE: all the clutch discs, seals, gaskets, bushings, band, & filter, & to machine & rebush the servo if applicable.) The consumer authorized the repair on 5/4/15@ 10:30am w/SSI# ending w/[redacted] (See Exhibit "A" Section 1). Henceforth, we deserve to be paid for our time & manpower due to the fact that the consumer authorized the repair. (See Exhibit "A" Section 1).B) We did not quote the consumer $1600.00 with a "FREE" tow upon initial communication with the consumer. When in fact we offered to diagnose the problem first @no charge. So that we (Pro-Tech Transmission) could find what was wrong with said vehicle (See Exhibit "A") & charge accordingly. Upon finding out vehicle would not move, we (Pro-Tech Transmission) offered to tow vehicle in @ no charge as long as we (Pro-Tech Transmission) did the repairs & completed them. The consumer agreed, so we (Pro-Tech Transmission) towed vehicle in. upon removing & disassembling transmission-(With Auth. see Exhibit "A" Section 1) we (Pro-Tech Transmission) found transmission in need of additional "Hard Parts"-IE: Torque Converter, Front Pump, Valve Body w/Solenoids, Sprags, & Case-(Due to servo pin being broken inside case & gouging inside of case). The consumer was contacted & informed of the additional cost to cover "Hard Parts". The consumer auth. The additional repairs pending his approval for financing. Upon informing the consumer that he did not qualify for financing he requested us (Pro-Tech Transmission) to put his disassembled trans in trunk of vehicle & ready for tow. In closing, we should not be victimized due to the consumer not being able to get financed to complete his repairs. When in fact we (Pro-Tech Transmission) did what the consumer requested. Henceforth their will be no refund.Thank-you for your time in this matter. I needed my trucks transmission worked on so I called up a few shops. This company told me over the phone they had free towing and a free inspection so I said fine. I got there an told the owner exactly what I said over the phone and that I didn't think it would be that hard of a fix. He told me I then had to pay for the tow. I told him that he said it was free towing, he said that it didn't matter what he told me because on his website it stated that was only free with major repairs. I told him I never went on his site but he said it was free. He then told me he didn't like the way this was going and told me to pay the tow driver and leave. I told him I was not responsible for the tow. The tow company agreed with me and billed him. He also tried to get the tow driver to take my truck.
