After the work was supposedly completed upon moving in the electric department discovered that the water heater is defective, and is a fire hazard
I purchased a house that needed renovations before moving in. My contractor agreed to complete the work for roughly 45,000 dollars. After the work was supposedly completed upon moving in the electric department discovered that the water heater is defective, and is a fire hazard, it is also not turning itself off which caused my light bill to be almost 600 dollars for one month, and a 300 dollar light bill for two weeks. The was not new duct work that was supposed to be installed was never installed. He left the old ducts on the house which are leaking . This is detrimental to my health, as I have severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, and am wheelchair bound most of the time. The lack of heat in my home is affecting my health, and causing flare ups. My 86 year old mother also lives with me and its hard for her to sleep in her room as there is no heat going to that par of the house, along with my bedroom. He also did not install the shower door in one of the bathrooms, and he did not clean up my yard as he was supposed to. My biggest dream has turned into my biggest nightmare. I feel like I was robbed and this contractor is not to be trusted.

Desired Outcome

I think a fair result would be for him to replace the faulty water heater with a new one. Install the duct work that was supposed to be included in the new new HAVC unit, install the shower door that he was supposed to put on, and clean up my yard, as he left my backyard a mess. I think he should also cover the cost of the electric bill as the reason it is so high is due to his lack of action to make the repairs that the electric company said he needs to make. WE NEED HELP!

Re: Case ***
I will gladly answer these allegations. The electric company did not tell her the water heater was defective and a fire hazard. They told her it was wired wrong on two different breakers and if there was a problem might not blow both breakers. The house is roughly 50 years old and was wired that way before we used the same wire and breakers as before. She also said they told her that the electrician wired the meter wrong and that was why the bill was so high. I called my electrician to check out exactly what was said and by whom at ***. It took a couple of weeks, but he got to the bottom of it. I then asked him to get with her and change the breaker, so as to clear up those problems. When he called her she said she did not feel good and would call him back.

The A/C is another deal. The duct was never included in the estimate or contract. I talked with her in the beginning, there was a gas pack unit in there. I had two contractors look at the house and both said the duct work was fine, it is up off the ground and seemed okay. So they only bid replacing the unit with a heat pump as she requested, even though both said the gas pack would be warmer and more efficient. I told her this and she said she was afraid of gas and wanted it replaced. We were extremely tight on money and I still came in seven thousand over budget. Then I had to go back and cut seven more out of the budget. I cut tiling the bathroom out, etc. and went with a fiberglass shower and vinyl floor. Then I find out that she went with FHA financing. They re-worded my contract, the breakdown now 27 pages from my 2 pages. It said unit only and put be specific. Replace gas pack with a 3 1/2 ton heat pump, "no duct work was called out". She had a fit because her father died during construction and she decided to move her Mom in with her, so she decided the remodeled bathroom had to be tiled like her old one and would not pay the difference. I ate it. Then we found out the main water line going into the house was busted under the driveway. I got an estimate from the plumber to replace it, $586. She said she did not have it, so I agreed to split it with her. Then the FHA inspector tells me she has $5,000 contingency in the contract. That I should not eat that, so I tried to put that money back in in a change order. She then changed her mind, signed it and would not go for it, making me eat it. It rained for two weeks straight and the plumber got his machine stuck and made a mess. The back yard is so wet you can't get back there without bogging down. We left the old A/C unit back there until it dried some and she gave it to someone who rutted up the yard further, before I could get to it. I'm not straightening that out. She quickly ate up the $5,000 in change orders and then plenty more and would not pay for anything above the contract. So, if it wasn't spelled out in the contract, I'm not going to do it. I did call to order her shower door and he did not return my call for a month after the job was done. I could go on with plenty of examples of how she changed her mind and made me pay for it.
Sincerely,
Jim Hartman
P.S. I have been in business for 49 years, under different names and this is the first customer to turn me in to Revdex.com as a bad reference.
