We undertook this project under the belief that they were ready to have the work done on a time schedule agreed to. Once we got into the project we found that the bathroom floor was 75% rotted and we had to rebuild it (wood construction). We were told that the rot was only around the toilet but...

found that the original shower had been leaking and had also damaged the floor. From there it was one delay after another as they furnished the materials and they were limited to the time they could take off from work. They had not yet fully agreed between themselves what they wanted and we were given conflicting instructions from the two of them which also caused delays. My determining factor in ending this job occurred when either the husband or wife walked on the newly laid shower floor and ruined the tile work. They would not take responsibility for the damage and expected us to repair it. The damage would require us to tear up the tile and redo the shower pan which would have cost us several hundred dollars. At this point our relationship was deteriorating and I offered to end our work and take our losses. I approached Mr. [redacted] with the opportunity to part our ways and have them find another contractor. I told them I would not charge them for the extra work that we did on the floor and left them with approximately $1400 left to be paid on the original job estimate. We both agreed to end the relationship and ended the conversation with both parties agreeing and shook hands. It was amiable. The bathroom is very small,, about 4' x 7'. It was difficult to have more than 2 people working and most times that was too many. I not only worked on the project personally as needed but I visited the job once to twice a day. This was an unfortunate situation and did not go well for either party. I don't feel that I owe them any money. Between the additional work that was not paid for and the $1400 remaining on the original estimate should have been enough to finish the tile work.
