ProMag Energy Group A/C and Heating Reviews (1)

A brand new Goodman Air Conditioner purchased April 2013 is a lemon that should be replaced. It has broken 7 times in 10 months for the same things.
I'm writing you because I am so frustrated with how we've been treated by Pro Mag Energy - Air Conditioning repair here on the Treasure Coast over the past year, and it's to the point where we need help in dealing with them and being treated fairly.

We had them service our prior air conditioner with yearly maintenance service several times. We've always maintained the system with monthly scheduled filter changes as directed. If the system went down, they always seemed fair, reasonably priced and quick to get it repaired if needed without much down time.

Last April (in 2013), the manager, [redacted], suggested that our air conditioner was at its end (10 years old) and we should replace the system. My partner has been on disability for two years and my position was eliminated and I was terminated from my job. I had a very small emergency reserve and didn't have enough to pay for the entire new system. Also, we both had bad credit since doing a short sale and losing everything we built financially, due to hurricane Wilma. We had no charge cards at all and bad credit to get financing. They offered us a 16 seer Goodman 4 ton air conditioning system replacing both the outside unit as well as the air handler in the garage for $5500 which MUST include an infrared light to kill mold as well as air duct cleaning. It came with a 10 year Parts and labor warranty and lifetime on the compressor. With 2500 down, they would allow us to make payments at $500 a month for 6 months interest free with in house financing. We had no choice but to get the inflated priced system with the extras of infrared light and duct cleaning or they wouldn't finance us. We did it. Which really depleted the emergency fund, let alone making the $500 payments for 6 months on a small fixed income.

In June, we had our first breakdown. Of course, thinking we shouldn't have to pay for anything, we call them to come and repair. Who thinks a brand new air conditioner will break within two months The repair man came out and told us that our low voltage wires are no good and shorted out and need to be replace. He also told us that since they hadn't replaced those in the installation, it will cost us $1100 to replace. What? After replacing them, the unit still doesn't work. He comes back in and says the circuit board in the air handler unit is fried. I said, it seems that perhaps THAT was the cause all along and you are charging me and replaced wires that didn't need to be. He said no of course, but till this day, I'm sure I was ripped off for the $1100. Of course, this was on a Friday. Before we purchased the system, I asked if they always had the parts in stock since I never heard of Goodman. They said yes, always, and the warehouse was right in Port St Lucie. Well, they didn't have it in stock, so we had to go the weekend with no air conditioning, the first of many weekends like that.

To make a long story short, this air conditioner has been repaired 7 times in the past 10 months. I will give you more details if you decide to help us. This past month alone, it has gone down twice. We have asked for the owner to call us, he never does. We have told them we want a new air conditioner to replace this lemon, and they just keep putting band aids on this piece of junk they call an air conditioner. Are we being unreasonable to expect to have paid $6600, an over inflated amount, and have a working air conditioner free from defects? By the way, we lived up to our end of the deal. All payments were made, made on time and the financing is paid off. We need help!!!!! The last time they came out two weeks ago, prior to yesterdays break down again, they tried to charge me $575 for repairs of a 10 year parts and labor warranty unit! They are shady and the owner never calls. What does that say about the company?
