Complaint: Yoga Pura
I would like to make a formal complaint about Yoga PuraMy experience at yoga pura was a mentally abusive experienceThe first time I took Marta’s Yoga class (she is a teacher) I was in three leg downward dog she came besides me and slapped my buttI was shocked and confusedIn class it was apparent that Marta had a crush on meShe and Eric our main teacher are a couple and he could see she liked meEric who told the class he still has his Dad’s ashes in a UPS box in his closet, seems to have a problem with menBeing only one of three men in the class, he made me feel that he saw me as a threat because of my knowledge of Yoga, philosophy, and my knowledge of western sports sciences, being a personal trainerAny time I was called on to answer a question no matter what correct answer I gave he would tell me I was wrong and then give the correct answer using almost all the same words I had saidIt happened so often that Marta and other teachers would protest and say that the answer I gave was correctAnother student, Lori Bowden asked, “What is the difference between our class and an occult?” I stopped saying the opening prayer, asking questions, and answering themI had one counselor come up to me and ask if everything was alight, since I use to always participateI told her I felt that I shouldn’t participate anymore and it was left at thatI honestly felt that Eric wants to be the alpha in the room, that he didn’t want any other roosters in his hen farmI was not the only one he did this toIt seemed like he wanted to be the only one who could have the correct answer and that none of us could satisfy him with our answersSeeing him repeatedly mentally suppress his students was disturbingHe sat above all of us and he felt he was better than all of usSuzy, another student told me her husband Chris wanted to get his Yoga Certification, but she would not recommend yoga pura for him because of EricThat her husband would not stand for Eric’s manipulation During class Marta would complain to the students about her relationship with EricShe would say, “I use to do a lot of things in my practice until I came here” or tell us about how big her baby boy was upon delivery and how she is not the same anymoreThen Eric called me into his office saying that Kate Rose, a student in the class made a complaint about me making unwanted gestures towards herKate called me this past September and said she never made that complaintThat she told another student I hugged her and that event was reported to Eric by another studentEric tried to convince Kate to make a formal complaint to get me kicked outShe wouldn’t and then she told me because she wouldn’t help get me kicked out that she experienced being singled out by Marta and Eric, making her feel unwelcome in the classOur anatomy curriculum that was taught was incorrectly taught by MartaIt was confusing even for I, who has taken anatomy for being a Personal TrainerThen for our final instead of our Anatomy teacher Marta going over the final with us, Eric took overHis answers were absolutely incorrect, saying, “all the muscle can do is contract,” not true there are three different types of muscle contractions, concentric, eccentric, and isometricThe Anatomy part of the class that I paid for was incorrect most of the timeEric’s reply was you have learned enough to be successfulThe class was left absolutely confused during the review of the anatomy final because what Eric said was contradicting what Marta taught and was wrongI tried to contact my counselor about my concerns and I felt I was blown off and that none of it was a surprise to herThere was a clear division between Eric, Marta, and the councilorsEric had a crush on the student Savanah RussoShe was called on 90% of the time by EricShe would flirt with him using body language as Eric helped her into a pose and Eric was google eyed over herBetween Marta calling my name out in the middle of class and Eric’s crush on Savanah, the rest of the class felt uncomfortable like I didThe class’s education on actually making a yoga class wasn’t taught till the last two weeks of schoolAll the students felt unrepaired to teach yoga at graduationIt almost felt like Eric wanted to make sure he was still the masterI feel a business owner/yoga teacher shouldn’t try to manipulate a student so he can kick out another studentAnd to tell a student the answer they gave is wrong when actually they were correct is a gross mental abuse
