We have dealt with Wayne and Jason at Protection Plus for over 6 years in having a home alarm set up and installed for both of our homes that we have lived in. They answered any and all our questions we had and only recommended the necessary alarm equipment required before and during installation without being pushy in trying to sell us more of their products. Jason did a great job during the installation and kept our home clean and tidy when the work was completed. We highly recommend PP for their excellent customer service and professional alarm installation and would not hesitate to use them again for another move.

I recently purchased a home through a private sale and was resuming the services of protection plus from the previous owners, for my home alarm system / monitoring. The transition was seamless. Everyone I interacted with; from representatives over the phone to the gentleman who came by to test and explain my alarm system were a pleasure to deal with. The communication was clear, and they made sure I understood everything before proceeding.

I cannot recommend Protection Plus more, and I would not hesitate in mentioning them, If I was asked for a referral.

Our business closed on October 31'st 2017. We attempt to close the service contract and asked that a final bill be provided. They explained that we would have to buy our our contrac. And that there was a service call on October 30th that we owed. $50 for. I asked them to provide me with a final detailed bill and information about the service call which I have no record of even transpiring.
Also at this time our account was paid in full up until the end of February 2018. So there was technically no dept until March 2018.
On December 1st I recieved an email from them that still did not include a final invoice or a record of the service call. But simply had text in the email saying that 11 months were owed at 22.95= 252.45. Total owing $285.27.
Somehow this was their idea of a final bill. In February I had a phone conversation with *** and again asked for a final bill and reason for the service call. At this poin I was resent the email from December 1 and told that was the bill and how I wanted to proceed with the final bill. Then on March 7th 2018 *** the owner sends me an email saying I will be sent to collections if my bill was not paid. So on this day my account was paid until Feb 28 so know at the time they want to send me to collections my account is only 6 days in arrears...
So to summarize they said I owed $285.27 for services from March 2018 to February 2019. And 50.85 for an undocumented, unproven service call.
So now the account gets sent to Collection Agent. Who tells me I now owe $585.79.....
There has been a Administration fee added which contravenes the Collection Act.
I again asked for a final bill and a call from the owner of Protection Plus and again no Call or Final bill.
So I asked the Collection Agency to provide the bill to me which they did today. This invoice was created by Protection Plus on April 13, 2018... so was there ever a bill before this????
This bill says the dept is now different than the email they sent and now says the bill is $323.40 and $45 for the service call now.. plus Tax on top of this amount and the $150 service charge also plus tax.
There are so many inconsistencies with this bill.
All I ever wanted was to pay what we owed. I told them from the start but they never properly invoices me.
I spoke with Consumer Protection Ontario today and they aggreed there are many issues. Including illegally charging a service fee. Not providing a final invoice and sending to collections fo a debt that had not even incurred yet.... Consumer Protection Event# ***
On their recommendations I'm contacting the Revdex.com

Desired Outcome

I would like a proper official invoice for the 11 months contract buy out. And I would like to see the service ticket proving there was a service call on October 30th 2017. I would also like a written apology for sending this matter to collections without ever providing the requested invoices/documents. I would like them to know it is illegal to charge a service fee like they have in contravention of the Collections Act.

Hello ***,
You and I first spoke about your contract on December 1, 2017. I informed you that your contract with Protection Plus had still had to be fulfilled. You asked me to send you an email detailing the amounts that were outstanding. You did not request a formal invoice nor was it sent to you. When our collection representatives informed us that you wanted detailed invoice, we immediately sent that one to you as well.
Although technically, you were paid up until the end of February 2018, you had requested a cancellation December 1, 2017 and assured me you would pay off the contract once you received the email detailing the amount owing. The process of chasing you for payment did not a start in March 2018, it started in December 2017. By the time your account was sent to collections on April 13, 2018, it had been almost 5 months since our original conversation. I have included a list of attempts to contact you below.

Jan 11/18...mail out past due invoice # *** $50.85...guard dispatch on Oct 30/2017....

Jan 12/18... Emailed past due letter...

Feb 23/18..Called *** re pending payment on inv. # ***, $50.85 for guard dispatch on Oct 30, 2017...he said company is no more...got bankrupt and informed us in Dec 2017. Re-sent him ***'s email regarding cancellation and still under contract...

Mar 6/18..... Inv. ***, $50.85 for guard dispatch, inv. ***, $365.44 for alarm monitoring...sent Collection Warning...

Mar 15/18...Did a Courtesy call to *** for outstanding payment...no response...l/m on vm...
Mar 30/18...Called *** re collection warning... no response...

Apr 13/18...Account in Collections for inv. ***, $50.85 + inv. ***, $365.44 + Administration fee of $150 + HST = $585.78...

Let me clarify the administration charge of $150. This is not a collection charge from our legal Credit representatives, this is a perfectly legal administration charge from Protection Plus for time and effort spent pursuing you.

In the interests of wrapping this up, we are willing to waive the administration fee if you pay up the amount owing. The charge for $45 (+tax) was not for a service call. It was for a private guard dispatch that occurred on October 30, 2017. The log for this call is included below.

From the first time I called Protection Plus for a quote, they made me feel comfortable and their follow up was really impressive. Their reviews were great and I found it to be consistent with what was being said about them online. Their price is competitive and they made me feel as if they valued me as a customer. I'd recommend them anytime. They are better than the the big competitors.
