Protective Administrative Services Reviews (%countItem)

On July 4th 2018, my 2012 Honda Civic Ex began stalling and then the engine seized. On July 5th I had the vehicle towed to Metro Honda in Johnston RI where I was told that I would need an engine replacement. My car has an extended warranty provided by Protective Assets Protection. Protective Asset Protection sent an adjuster out to Metro Honda to determine the cause of the engine failure. Upon completion of the diagnosis I was told that engine valves were burnt due to carbon buildup, and would not be covered under the warranty. On July 28th I had the car towed to Herb Chambers in Boston where further diagnostics were done and had another adjuster from Protective Assets Protection assess the vehicle a second time. The second adjuster from Protective Assets Protection said the failure was not due to carbon buildup but somethin else and denied the claim. I find it suspicious that Protective Assets change their diagnostics on the reason for engine failure and deny my claim since I have full coverage. I have been without my vehicle for over a month now and as a consumer this is very frustrating. I need your help in making Protective Assets Protection accountable to cover the costs I have accrued thus far, including towing, rental expenses, vehicle breakdown costs for their diagnostics and accept the claim and repair my vehicle at no cost to me.

Western Diversified Services, Inc. (“WDS”) is in receipt of your April 24, 2018 correspondence. WDS is the administrator of the CostGuard Vehicle Service Contract (“Service Contract”) that was purchased on September 12, 2012. We hope you find the following information helpful.

There have been two claims regarding this issue. The first claim was denied on 07/20/2018 for a burnt valve. Burnt valves are specifically excluded from coverage. The second claim was called in from another repair facility on July 31, 2018 stating that the vehicle was towed in to their shop already in a torn down state, as the engine was not put back together from the previous claim. We explained that the previous claim had been denied, but if they have new information to provide us we would review.

On August 7, 2018 inquiring about piston rings we explained that there must be a mechanical failure to a covered component in order for there to be coverage. A failure due to carbon build-up is not considered a mechanical failure. Ms. would need to authorize a tear-down in order to be able to properly diagnose if a failure has occurred and that she would be responsible for any charges until a coverable failure can be shown. Later this same day, Ms. called to inquire about a rental and to inform us that she has hired an attorney. We explained to Ms. that at this time, the claim has not been denied as we are waiting for further diagnosis from the repair facility.

By pointing out the foregoing, Western Diversified Services, Inc. does not waive, but specifically reserves, any and all rights and defenses it may have under the contract and applicable law

Customer Response • Aug 13, 2018

I am rejecting this response because: Protective stated to me that both claims were denied. The first claim was wrongfully diagnosed as carbon buildup where the valves were burnt due to oil buildup. This company has been very unprofessional and hostile with assistance with claims and with me finding out information on my coverage. I have paid for this contract and if every possible part of the engine is excluded from coverage then what exactly does the warranty cover? Protective also agreed to charges for breakdown of the vehicle to which I have submitted for reimbursement, and still awaiting payment.I am very disgusted and disappointed with their service and the treatment I have received. Also, I have not pursued legal action as of this date. Please help me to resolve this matter fairly.

Please see attached response.

I paid for the extended warranty on my Ford F150. but my Ford dealership has had to go through extreme hoops just to get anything done. This started because I have a timing chain that needs to be replaced. The first runaround started there, Warranty Dept says "tear it out, now put it back together and video of it not working. Double the work. This is after they showed the cam phaser is scored and the engine is failing.
So warranty then tells Ford Tech to tear the engine apart to show why the Cam Phaser is bad even though Ford themselves say if cam phaser is bad the engine needs to be replaced.
My ford tech told me that this has never been such a run around for them. I'm being asked to authorize 2000 in labor to justify what a Ford Tech and Ford themselves are telling this warranty company has to be done.
So, I'm being told by warranty that I could be out 2000 if the warranty department decides not to replace the engine. Plus, then still have to pay for a new engine.
This is absolutely crazy.

Want to add to the complaints entered here against Protective Asset Protection. My experience comes in the form of a luxury pontoon boat protection. Everyone listing run around and non-payment are exactly right. Once you communicate with the company, the agent leads you down a rosy path of 'helpful and friendly' questions. Sounds good, huh? It is until they reach the answer that says, claim denied! It will be the most ridiculous oversight that they can claim 'Terms of the Contract' not followed. It could be a dotted I or a crossed t. Doesn't matter, they will not pay or honor any repair. The business that talked you into giving money to this company HAS to be in on the scam. There is no possible way they do not know. I have made 4 calls with plenty of documentation and pictures that any reasonable business would except as verification. Fabricated things like we tried to call the dealer, rang and rang. No answer. Multiple calls. Strange, with a receptionist manning the dealer phones for every time I called. Therefore, there is only one conclusion. DO NOT DO BUISNESS with anyone that even offers this service.

I had an extended warranty form this company and I feel they will take advantage of the customer. I had a problem with my Ford F150 and when I had taken it in for Repairs, The Local Dealer said I did not have a extended warranty. I then had to pay for the repairs out of pocket. I found my contract and found that the repairs were done within the Time period of the contract (two weeks before the contract lapsed). When I was able to submit the claim to the company the contract time had ended. The Protective Asset Protection company denied my claim saying it was not approved repairs and the contract has now ended and they will not pay for the repairs and will not refund me for the Repairs. 1) the Dealer said I had no contact. 2) The repairs were done within the contract time period. I would recommends using a different company for your extended warrantee, In my case they will find a way not to pay for the repairs.

Caution they will say a repair is approved and then when all paperwork is submitted for reimbursement, they severely discount the payment. I was reimbursed $600, on a $1600 repair. I would not recommend buying this coverage it is a rip off!

We purchased a travel trailer from ***. They sold us a platinum 24/7 service plan. They are supposed to come to us to fix it according to both our contract & the service department at ***. They (Protective Asset Protection) falsely advertised & they are in breach of contract. Essentially we pay them for nothing. After 3 stressful phone calls I was told in no uncertain terms that if we want someone to come out we must pay out of pocket and request reimbursement from ***. So my question, is what does protective asset protection do? Accept our money & they do nothing?

This responds to your correspondence of March 23, 2018 addressed to Protective Asset Protection. It has been forwarded to me for review and reply. We apologize for not responding sooner, but we have no record of having received the first request.

At this time we are unable to locate a current active Service Contract with the information that has been provided. If Ms. could provide us with a copy of the signed Deceleration Page of the Service Contract or the VIN number for the vehicle, we would be able to perform a more thorough search.

Ms. may fax the information to or she may e-mail the information to [email protected]. Once this information is received, we will be able to respond further.

I paid thousands of dollars for the piece of mind of having a extended warranty on my vehicle and now that its time for them to pony up they are trying to find every reason not to pay... They have denied my claim twice for reasons that are beyhond my unDerstanding of good faith!! My vehicle has been at the dealership since christmas IT IS IS NOW ALMOST THE END OF FEBRUARY. I LOST MY JOB OVER THIS,MY RETIREMENT,MY GIRLFRIEND,POSSIBLY MY HOUSE AND MY LIFE. I TRULY HATE THESE PEOPLE THAT ARE OUT HERE DOING BUISNESS IN A WAY THAT IS JUST GRIMEY AND NASTY AND ALL ABOUT GETTING OVER ON THE NEXT GUY.

Western Diversified Services, Inc. (“WDS”) is in receipt of your letter dated February 20, 2018 and, it has been forwarded to me for review and reply. WDS is the administrator of the Vehicle Service Contract (“Service Contract”) and we respectfully request that you change your records to reflect the correct company name. We appreciate the opportunity to review this matter and hope you find the following information helpful.

Coverage is not automatic just because a claim has been filed. There are certain conditions that must be met for a claim to be covered and there are also coverage exclusions. For example, the Service Contract does not cover Breakdowns caused by the failure of non-covered parts or non-manufacturer recommended alterations to the vehicle. Therefore, determining the cause of the Breakdown is required.

Prior to Mr. filing his complaint, the repair facility was unable to determine the cause of failure. After Mr. filed his complaint, we received further information from the repair facility stating that they may have found the cause of failure. We will perform an inspection on the vehicle to see if the failure is covered under the terms and conditions of the Service Contract.

By pointing out the foregoing, WDS does not waive, but specifically reserves, any and all rights and defenses it may have under the Vehicle Service Contract and the applicable law.

Sincerely,

Peggy E. ***

Government Relations Paralegal

Had bought a warranty from the dealership when I got the vehicle thinking I was being giving a good deal. Months down the line I took my vehicle in for a check up and was informed I would need the timing belt replaced and some other things, when I called the company to put in a claim as stated with other people that complained about this company I was giving the run around. Eventually I gave up on trying to use them because nothing is straight forward, they never want to pay out for repairs and find one loop hole or the other. I wouldn't recommend their services to anyone.
