Review: I thought [redacted] would make a correctly typed manuscript into the computer with my errors corrected. First his lady typist asked me to pay her $600.00 to type my manuscript into their computer. I reluctantly gave her $600.00 cash. When I came back as I expected to receive my manuscript correctly put in their computer as this was the next step to getting my book produced. I brought it home after he told me to correct all the errors his typist made in addition to my editing out any mistakes. He says he wants $90.00 per hour for correcting my mistakes. I saw their work and they gave me my computer typed manuscript with errors they made. Correcting their errors all over the book took me hours. My own errors took some time since I had to be sure my part of work would be able to be read and understood. I decided to change by taking out some sentence, and adding some more sentences. She also did a lot of small mistakes. Big waste of time and money. As for the computer disc he said in his rejection letter that he was sending me a $108.00 refund because he decided he didn’t want to add 48 more pictures that he first agreed to do later when he had tome. I marked the 48 more pictures with his green marker pen on my pictorial book did covers for the pictures. I was told when he had time he would include them in the disc. That day I took home their typed manuscript that I payed $600.00 for and I had to edit it and correct their mistakes on it too. It took me a number of hours for days to complete. He gave me a red felt pen to mark all the corrections I asked if I could have a certain print design for my book and he paid it won’t be the kind on the manuscript. I could choose the design I liked. Days went by and early in March 2016, I got this package, from Publishers design group and I thought it meant he added the 48 pictures. (I marked with his green felt pen). Then I guessed he had typed the manuscript with all the corrections I made and that I would maybe pay $150.00 for his correcting my part. I asked him would it be $150.00 on one of my guesses. When I told him I don’t like to drive in Sacramento downtown roads because of all the barriers they placed on the intersections and the trains on the road, I was told he wanted me to drive over there. First he told me when I asked over the phone if I could have them help me get a resale license with their computer [redacted] told me they could do that. I thought that the next step would be for cover design. Also the title ideas I had were told to [redacted] as if I wanted approval. And he said that’s not going to be the title. I accuse [redacted] and his lady typist of planning to keep $960.00 I payed for just a hard drive disc. [redacted] said it would take too long to show me on his computer how the pictures look. He wanted me to ask a family member to show me his work. No one in my family could show me. Brett doesn’t want to show me with his computer I told [redacted] that. [redacted] said I could go to the library to have someone show me. I told [redacted] I was afraid I would scratch it (then it couldn’t be used). Of my paying $960.00 for a disc and the person didn’t even want to show me his work, I am asking a refund of $960.00 from [redacted]. I want to know the steps and how much it costs and when can I have a book. He only instructed me steps at a time. And didn’t tell me how much a cover for my book would cost. He made me think once we get this book designed we could make millions of books. So for the total amount spent I spent by check $960.00 and cash of $600.00 to [redacted] and the lady typist. Then I spent $108.00 by check for 48 more pictures that I wanted to include and I got my picture books, my messed up manuscript and the negatives plus the rejection letter that makes it seem like I was unwilling to cooperate with his plan to do what he wanted me to do. I get a refund check for $108.00 because he changed his mind and didn’t want to add the 48 pictures to my hard drive disc. I get a check for $600.00 refund because he didn’t want to type my manuscript with all of the corrections I showed him. He marked the pages on the computer manuscript and my manuscript but changed his mind and said it would take several hours. I thought [redacted] would correctly type the manuscript after I spent hours so he could make the corrections on his computer. He said in his rejection letter it would take several hours, $90.00 each hour. [redacted] was going to add the 48 pictures when he had time. Instead he sent me a refund check for $108.00. [redacted]’s lady typist incorrectly typed my manuscript into the computer and after I spent many hours marking the corrections, [redacted] refused to correctly type my manuscript into his computer he sent me a refund check for $600.00.

In the [redacted] it says this…

[redacted] could have put the 48 pictures I payed him $108.00. [redacted] could have typed my corrected manuscript into his computer. Where in his add in the [redacted] does it say that we may decide to reject an author’s work after we work on it for money.

I will fax the three receipts and rejection letter. I can have the three receipts with some information about what he did and his lady secretary did about my attempts on getting two discs. A hard drive with all the pictures I decided to include in this nice pictorial book I started and a hard drive disc with my nicely typed manuscript in it.

[redacted] and his lady typist tricked me by typing it wrong in many areas plus any selected areas I wanted to change, they refunded me $108.00 in the rejection letter. In [redacted]’s rejection letter he said it would cost several hours of time. He once told me I don’t work for free. In the [redacted] I understand their company’s ad to say they provide publishing solutions in the [redacted] form [redacted]. They made it impossible to get corrected hard drives for manuscript and complete picture amounts I decided to use. I already paid $108.00 for added pictures as he told me it would cost and on the 9th of March 2016 I asked over the phone how much the corrections would cost that I made. He told me to open the package a few times and to call him on Friday. He wasn’t at his locations for business. If you give me the fax # I will fax his rejection letter.Desired Settlement: Proposed remedy. I want my $960.00 back I payed for a hard drive disc. Because he was going to charge me for several hours $90.00 per hour to correct the manuscript and I expected to have a hard drive for manuscript.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] came to us and said he wanted to publish a book. After reviewing his material, we told him he needed to have his hard-copy photos scanned into a digital format and he needed to have his type-written manuscript entered into Microsoft Word, a digital format. He wanted sample books to send to publishers. We told him that these tasks would need to be performed before any production budget for layout, design, and printing could be proffered to him.He requested a budget for scanning and typing. We ran some time-tests and agreed to do the scanning at $960 and the typing at $600.After scanning and typing, we cut a disc of the scans for him to review and gave him a printout of the newly-typed manuscript for his review, telling him to indicate any typos or errors he finds so we can correct the digital file of the manuscript. He came back and showed me the multitude of typing mistakes we made and we told him we would correct them at no charge since we were responsible for such. After considering the difficulty with communication, his inability to access email or to do on-line PDF reviews, and his reluctance to drive his car to a library or to the [redacted], we decided to back out of the job and refund his money for the typing. We returned his original, type-written manuscript so he could go elsewhere to have it typed. We returned the $600 he paid us to type.We also returned the $108 check he paid to have a number of more scans done. We did not return the $960 he paid for the 550+ scans we put on the disc given to him. We performed the scanning for him and he will need it when he goes to have his book formatted for printing.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: [redacted] stated :"I told this guy that I don't know about computers and all so I did not want the scans. I have said this numerous times to him. He gave me back 708.00 that was for the incorrect manuscript and the 48 more pictures to add to the scans for the books. I do not think that anyone would accept these 550 scans for publishing my book. I want to take my book to a company that will pay me for the book and create it and not me pay for the book first.
