Review: I was the tenant in Apt 1205 from 1/4/14 to 7/26/14. $75 was deducted from my security deposit for painting. I made no marks on any of the walls while I was a tenant, and customary maintenance should not be deducted from a tenant as damages. Also, $165 was deducted for cleaning. I thoroughly cleaned before I left, and the apartment was cleaner than when I moved in. The deduction would equate to 7 hours of cleaning. It is a 1 BR apt - and it was empty - so it is not possible that it could take someone 7 hours to clean it, besides, as I said, I cleaned it well before I left. The apartments use third party contractors and cleaning services, and they supposedly just take their word on how much time they spent in a unit, and pass the bill on to the tenants. I guess the landlord figures they can hand these third party folks a blank check with no oversight or scope of work up front, because they know in the end, they won't be paying for it, the tenant will.Desired Settlement: I want the $240 that was deducted from my security deposit for painting and cleaning returned to me.

Response:
This letter is in response to a customer complaint over the deductions in their security deposit refund. All tenants prior to moving out are given a letter (copy attached) that states exactly what needs to be done prior to moving out, to have their full security deposit (minus carpet cleaning) returned to them. It requires the tenant to submit in writing to our office exactly what work he/she intends on completing prior to moving out. It also states in Section 2 that the tenant needs to schedule an appointment for the apartment to be inspected when keys are returned. This lets the tenant know what he/she may be charged from the security deposit if something was not completed satisfactorily. The former tenant that submitted this complaint did not turn in what he/she was completing nor did he/she schedule an inspection with a Pugsly representative. They did not return keys to office, but left them in apartment.
We are asking that the complaint be removed due to the former tenant neglecting their responsibility to follow the proper procedure for moving out.
Respectfully,
