Pump Doctors Reviews (3)

There must be a cost between the 220 and 110 wiring. In the future u may need to have that wiring done and since they skimped on it they should pay me the difference. If you can't seek money that's fine. I want you to know what terrible service we received and how rude and unprofessional they are.

[redacted] called to say the business paid for carpet cleaning company to clean my carpet. They are currently doing it right now. Please close the complaint as resolved.

Sunday morning May 29th. My husband was outside checking the pool and I was making coffee. When I turned on the water we had zero water pressure. I went to the bathroom and the pressure was the same there so I went outside to get my husband. We went to the utility room where the pump was housed. He told me to stay in the utility room. He went to check the breaker and it had tripped. He turned the breaker back on while I was still in the utility room and it looked like the 4th of July. Sparks were flying everywhere and I screamed at the top of my lungs as it scared me. This was our first time ever with a well issue as we have always had city water and the only place we knew to call was The Pump Doctors because we had seen trucks around our neighborhood. We called and Rich came to our home an hour later. He came downstairs, looked at the unit and saw the galvanized pipe and IMMEDIATELY suggested that we replace our entire system. He didn't even try to diagnose anything. We asked him how much it would cost and he said $4k to $4500. But most likely the low end of $4k. We asked how much it would cost to just replace what was there and he said $2500. He highly suggested we run new lines to the house because of the pipes coming through the basement floor were galvanized. He called fixing the pump "a band-aid" and did not recommend it. We at that point felt we had no choice but to follow his recommendations and replace the entire system. He did say that they would not be able to replace our system until Wednesday or Thursday. He said to get us through he could hook us up to our neighbors water if they were willing., Thankfully our neighbors allowed us to use their water. After a few calls going back and forth about when they could come they finally came Wednesday at 9:23 am.My husband arrived home from work at 9:35 a.m. They asked him where he thought the well was and he told him according to what the previous owner had told us. We were told it was "to the left of the pavers". As it turns out it was to the “left of the pavers” but not in the area that their metal detector indicated something. During that time I did look at our survey and called Chemung County to see if they had that information on file. It is only required for businesses to know where their wells are located. After discussing with the owners and workers they did not want to dig in the pavers. They thought that if they did that we would never be able to get them back the way there were. They wanted to go around them.  Around 10 am Randy started digging where their metal detector had detected metal. He got about a foot down and found an old fence post. He thought that was a marker for the well so he kept digging. After digging to the bottom of the pole it fell over he determined that was not where the well was. They then started looking all over and the metal detector was going off all over the yard. So Aaron asked my husband if they could just start digging everywhere they had a hot spot. My husband said no and at that point Aaron got on the phone with Blake the owner. He was told to find the well. They called NYSEG. The man that finds the lines for NYSEG was unable to find the well too. The guy lost signal ¾ of the way through our pavers and lost complete at the end of the pavers. Randy the excavator guy DID NOT want to tear up our pavers. So at that point he started digging at the end of the pavers. He dug about 4 foot down and said that it looked like we had “all fill” there. When our pool was put in they took the dirt and put it over the yard. At12:30 he said they were going to lunch. They had not yet found the well so they drilled holes around the old galvanized pipe in the floor in the basement because they were going to knock the floor out. They were going to use a snake down the old pipe so they could figure out where the well was and how far away from the house it was. They left for lunch at 12:30.1pm they returned and had started digging again. Randy said he was picking something up and it looked like someone had dug there before because the soil was soft he said. He dug down about 3 feet and was ready to give up. Our neighbor told him to take 2 more scoops and there it was about 7-8 feet down. They pulled the top off the well, pulled the lines out of the well. They pulled the foot valve out of the well. About 3:15pm they said they had to go. Aaron had to go to another job and Randy had a doctors appointment. They left an open 8 foot hole in our back yard. They only put up caution tape around the hole.Thursday morning 8:30 am they showed up. They extended our well to be above ground and up to code. During this time it was down pouring. Rich was in our garage drilling holes to the outside where Randy had dug the trench for the new water line. They never removed the gutter drain so all the water that was on the roof rushed into this hole and could have flooded our basement. Thankfully we have a drain in our garage. Thursday they got most of the work done and stayed until 7pm that night to get us water. After they hooked our water in my husband asked Rich why he was wiring it to our old electrical? We needed an outlet to plug our water softener into. Rich said we needed to run an extension chord from the other side of the room for our water softener. We said no because we knew that is a fire hazard. At that time we found out that they installed a 110 submersible pump instead of the 220 that we were promised. This was when we talked to the owner for the first time. We needed to know what was happening and why. We were quoted certain items for a certain amount of money and it wasn't happening. When we spoke with Blake he immediately got defensive and angry and started to yell. He rubbed it in our faces that it SHOULD have cost us $7k but they were doing us a favor by getting us water. He also was angry because this job was taking way too long. Here are a few thoughts on this. Whether we are paying $4500 or 7k we should still be getting the same workmanship. I feel that because the job took so long they were rushing to get out and the job was done poorly. In the meantime it was suggested to me to check with my insurance company to see if it may be covered. I was expecting nothing. When I called Travelers the gentleman was quick to say it was covered. He asked me if it was struck by lightning and I said I didn't know that my family and I were all sleeping. Things soon escalated when our yard was destroyed. I called our insurance company to see if they could cover more due to the digging. At that time he said they needed to send out an adjustor. We had already been assured that we were covered in full and the check was coming soon. She came to our home and immediately determined that it was old age and said it wasn't going to be covered. How would you feel if you were told you were covered 100% on a $4500 bill and then they change their mind and backed out. I had just had our son a few weeks before and this was a huge part of my frustration.Thursdays work was really sloppy. There were MANY things that needed to be done before we would even consider payment. After 2 days of work my husband needed to get back to work so I took the day off to be home. They came first thing in the morning, I had called Blake early that morning to discuss the pump. My husband and I really thought that the 220 pump should have been installed and I was going to ask them to put in the 220 pump they promised us. Blake never called he just showed up to the house to talk. Once I saw the trucks pull in I took my newborn son outside to discuss changes that needed fixed. When I told the guys I wanted that 220 pump installed because that was what was promised they all got very upset and rude with me. They started calling Blake and talking rudely right in front of me. They made me feel like I was asking them to do something they didn't promise, like it was my fault they installed the wrong pump. Blake showed up and I told him about the pump. He got extremely upset with me and told me I was being petty. He then proceeded to talk about how long this job was taking and how he should have charged me 7k.......I told him there were many issues that needed to be fixed before I would pay. He snapped and demanded payment right then. I said NO! I was not paying until the job was DONE! He told me there was no price difference between the 220 and 110. He said the 220 was more efficient. I asked him to show me in the catalog so I could see if there was a difference. There is no cost difference in the pump itself. However the wiring cost more and the 220 would have been WAY more efficient for us. But I suppose that is something they aren't worried about. I took Blake in the house to show him the issues that needed to be fixed. He was shocked at some of the things he saw and demanded that they fix it. Rich was fixing everything while Randy was fixing the mess in the yard. What we asked them to fix was:They left the holes in the floor open. We required that they fill them in because of Radon gas. We had to have a Radon system put in when we bought the house so we weren't chancing It.The way the lines were run to the pressure tank. They were really sloppy and it didn't make sense the way it was set up.We needed them to install a new outlet as our old one burned up. The lines in the garage look terrible. They zip tied the electrical line and water line together. They didn't even run the lines evenly. They didn't bother cutting the zip ties, so they are sticking out everywhere. Where they drilled the holes for the lines in the garage they didn't fill the holes around the lines so I had them fix that too. The placement of the lines was bad as well some of the cabinet doors are not able to open without hitting the line. We believe we are going to have a huge issue with our water freezing this winter. They did a poor job of cleaning up after themselves. As far as the excavation goes our yard is ruined. We have had someone look at it already and we were told its going to cost 600-800 to fix it. We cant even open the gate to our backyard all the way due to the mounds of dirt left.In conclusion we feel we were duped by the pump doctors. We were given a quote that yes they did stick with but the quality of work was not there. I would never treat a client the way that we were treated. We were yelled at, disrespected and insulted. I feel that they thought we were asking for too much and they paid us back with the quality of work they delivered. I appreciate that they thought they were helping us out but they weren't. We have a ton of work to fix the mess they left us. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
