filed a complaint against Purdue for “refusing to sign a liability form so I could complete my hours of hands on training." Ms. [redacted] signed up for Purdue University's online Central Service Technician Training course, which is designed to prepare central service, operating room, infection control, and material management employees to success on the IAHCSMM examination and become Certified Central Service Technicians. While the course is helpful for those seeking certification, the certification itself comes from IHSCMM. To achieve a certification, the IAHSCMM itself, not Purdue University, requires 400 hours of hands-on training and a subsequent certification exam. Purdue informs the general public via its website and then specifically its enrolled students, at various times and places, that Purdue is not responsible for helping students achieve the 400 hours of hands-on training. Purdue also provides public notice that the hands-on training requirement is neither imposed nor expected by Purdue. Please see the attached evidence of such notices, including one that is provided to the student on an Enrollment Confirmation form. Please pay particular attention to the attachment called, "Central Service Technical Training Flyer." This flyer explains the course refund process to the student.
Ms. [redacted] should not have had any reasonable expectation that Purdue University would assist with the hands-on training in any way. As you can see in the Central Service Technical Training Flyer, Ms. [redacted] had 30 days to receive a refund from Purdue University. She failed to timely pursue a refund through that established process. Purdue has no obligation to refund Ms. [redacted]'s money based on any inability to obtain the 400 hours of hands-on training.
